So...
Just been watching this again on Youtube and it is probably the best (audio) quality of a live Beastie Boys gig I know of, well on video anyway. The picture quality/camerawork is pretty decent too!

I am wondering what are the chances of MTV / Viacom ever releasing this in a high quality format, be it DVD/Blu-ray or official download? I would gladly pay for it if the quality is better ie direct from the master recording.

Who would have the rights to this if it were to happen? I guess the Beastie Boys must have some say in this too?

PS. Before anyone mention AIFST, I have that on dvd but I don't rate the sound quality that highly, something feels off in the mix. :)

Yes, I think the Beastie Boys team would have to approach MTV to secure the release rights, and the final product would still be stamped with MTV logos all over it. Nonetheless, I'd gladly buy it, I think MTV have filmed some absolute crackers over the years. I actually know nothing about the process I might add - but it can definitely happen. I've seen a few BBC filmed shows and MTV gigs / programs make it out as official releases from various bands.

And thank fuck someone else agrees re: AIFST. I've never liked the sound. Even on 5.1 it sounds strangely hollow and flat. I'd choose the sound on practically any MTV filmed gig over that any day, all the energy is sucked out of AIFST. I know some people love it - I recall reviews demanding CD soundtracks be released on the strength of it - but it is definitely not for me. RRNN and AOLTNYC sound especially muddled.
