Does anyone know what they sample for this song?

They did their own instrumentation for some parts.
Steve Martin Wild and Crazy Guy album for the scratches: http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Crazy-Guy-Steve-Martin/dp/B000J4TT90/ref=sr_1_1/190-4404511-7603322?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1424926455&sr=1-1

It's a prank call they made themselves to the Carvel Ice cream parlour.

A lot of that stuff is them "sampling" themselves. I'd be very interested to find out more about both the cuts on that record though. The Steve Martin record is the only one I've ever IDed. I don't know if they sampled for the main tracks or used sound effects and whatnot in the studio. That record is actually pretty effing crazy for 1982. That shit does not sound like any drum machine I know of, especially those bass lines. Beastie Revolution is pretty much a dub track. I mean, they were obviously experimenting but talk about pushing the envelope. Listen to the other hip hop records coming out at the time and you won't hear anything like it. That was 1982!!!!!! Crazy man.

Also, think about Rock Hard in 1985. I'm assuming they used a tape loop for the AC/DC track (because that's what they did on LTI for some of the tracks). Had anybody done that in hip hop before then? Think about it. It was either live turntable shit, like the real OG hip hop, or it was funk bands trying to "recreate" that by playing live (e.g. Sugar Hill and Enjoy Records joints), or it was drum machines with one-shot samples from turntables (e.g. Schooly D, Run DMC, etc.). Who else was looping up samples in 1985???????

I haven't listened to it in a while but I'm pretty sure there is a "ahhh B.E.A.S.T.I.E. Go!" scratch/sample in there as well.

Pussy Crumbs has always sounded like MCA to me. Even though we know the bulk of the prank is probably AdRock.

The drums are probably Kate. I think they just made loops out of a recording session that didn't go well.

Adrock eh? I always assumed it was Mike, but I could be off.

I know the comic book, Hip Hop Family Tree has it as Mike D. It sounds like Adrock to me. And I'm pretty sure I have read that in various places.

But I talked to the cartoonist and he agreed that he may be wrong. He actually added an addendum to the panel stating that it could have been Adrock. Which is super cool in the nerdiest way possible.

I always thought it was Yauch doing the calls.

My guess is that they ALL did the calls. The bulk is sampled from Adrock. I've always assumed "these Pussy Crumbs are making me itch" is Yauch. And I'm sure Mike D is in there too.

My bad it was 83. That changes everything. Shit was totally outdated by 83 standards.:p
