Well, that is something. A lot more than The Beatles first album ever sold despite coming out years before. Indeed it might be nearly the same or a little less than The Beatles best selling studio album. Hard to believe if I am right about that.

I am not trying to pick on you about this, I just genuinely wondered if that was true. Sadly, it is not. I have never been a huge Beatles fan.

According to the RIAA, these are the Beatles albums (including greatest hits/compilations) with more sales than LTI:

The Beatles 19 million
The Beatles 1967-1970 17 million
The Beatles 1962-1966 15 million
Abbey Road 12 million
Sgt. Pepper 11 million
One 11 million

This list comes to mind (more so than comparisons to the beatles)

Didn't realize double albums basically get counted twice.....

Do not worry, you are not picking on me. There appear to be only two studio albums above that outsold LTI (Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper), right? It surprises me though. My statement did not include 'best of' compilation albums, just studio albums. My statement also was that the Beastie Boys' first studio album outsold The Beatles' first studio album. I think I am right, but I am not an expert on album sales (just looked it up in wikipedia and RIAA). It sure is surprising if I am right.

The Beatles debut is a more complex thing than LTI. Please Please Me (which has sold around 1 million copies) was a UK release, eventually being released in the US as a CD in 1987. The real debut Beatles album in the US was Meet the Beatles (5 million sales). So added together their "debut" has about 6 million copies sold.

Interesting and definitely an important distinction. I think back in those days (i.e., The Beatles) people purchased singles (i.e., 45s) more than albums. Not sure though.

Yeah I think you're right. The Beatles helped change that, eventually.

Big. Colossal. Humongous. Fun!

The Beastie Boys have been players that helped realize a seismic shift in culture and attitudes within our generation. They conveyed possibilities with spit, samples, and the perfect mixture of fun, pride and humility.

Plus; I like the beat, and I can dance to it too!

Fucking Congratulations is at the top of the order today.

Like I said upon my first listen to License to Ill, This shit is crazy great!
