He says he doesn't listen to new stuff, but he pretty recently remixed a track for Ratking and made a beat for das racist a few years back. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well that doesn't mean he listens to new stuff and maybe he meant by new stuff the mainstream music today.

Around 11:25, when he's asked about the last new music the Beasties made, is that a cut? I just wonder...the way that question was asked was borderline ignorant. Though it's obviously a comfortable interview, so I'm probably just being overly analytical. Anyway that was really good, and it's nice to hear him talk at length and just, well, the respect he (and the B-Boys) have earned: it's all on show. Cheers for posting.
edit: also I like and respect his attitude to the unreleased stuff. There is obviously a different difficulty for them (I would presume) with the stuff recorded once at the end, but I like how he's obviously aware that a lot of people would be interested in the off-cuts which have accumulated over the years, even if he thinks it's been left off for a reason.

You're spot on, Dave. It was definitely edited. I wonder what his reply was, and yeah, it was definitely an ignorant question.

I can almost picture in the unedited version, Adam leaning in and telling Sway about Yauch. Yeesh.

I noticed a couple of edits in there.
I REALLY wish somebody would get in these guys ears about releasing
(a) Deperado, and
(b) The Jerry Lewis
You know, has anyone approached them about it? Do they have an objection to those cuts or others being released? I assume that the problem with Desperado would be Def Jam, or maybe the sample clearance, but hasn't enough time passed that the Def Jam rift could be smoothed over? I haven't heard any recent comments showing ill will by either camp. Plus, Def Jam isn't even owned by Russ anymore. The Jerry Lewis seems like a no brianer.

I don't think they would put out anything randomly at this point - we're not going to suddenly find The Jerry Lewis linked in an official Beastie Boys email. The label is probably in charge, and legacy artists make the most bangbucks when new/unreleased shit is attached to reissues/boxsets.

mike addressed the Jerry Lewis not too long ago, right around the time it was unearthed (there's a picture of him holding the master reel). when asked about releasing it he said something like "not anytime soon".
keep this in mind too, unreleased music from the paul's boutique era is probly draped in red tape in terms of clearing for release, given all the sampling. remember, they couldn't even release the b-sides with the remastered version back in '09 for this reason. most logical avenue would be a leak of some sort, be it fan-based or stealthily band-based.

Yauch was the ran the show for this group. I don't think Adrock would know how to go about releasing the vault and Mike D doesnt care...

I think they will probably release some stuff eventually. But I wouldn't be waiting around for it, and I would keep expectations low. Obviously whatever they have is just not something they are excited about.

I bet it's really good.
I'm pretty sure we will hear The Jerry Lewis in the not-too-distant future. The book will be something special and will definitely not just be 'any old book'. this is Beastie Boys - Since when have they ever released any media in it's typical format.
Adrock is totally playing this down.

I want an Adrock lunchbox
I'm gonna see if they'll ship one to Toronto, Canada for me. I'd pay a little more of course and get to be an animal hero too! (lb)
