I know it's been speculated, but I think this is the closest we've seen to confirmation on such an item:
Ad-Rock and Mike D are currently sifting through countless hours of tapes, preparing for a mooted archival release.

This just made my morning. Thanks Rodie.

Excellent news. I want him to make a punk album. A Beastie archival release would be good too.

whether this happens soon or not, its nice to get an acknowledgement straight from the source that they're interested in following through with something like this. (y)(y)(y)(y)

I would have been mad keen for offcuts and oddities when the band was still a going concern.
Now, after everything, I would be unabashedly hyped for anything at all in the form of an archival release. Maybe not if it's too far in the 'crap factory' direction, which I could understand the band being underwhelmed by, but there's still got to be some rich, undiscovered stuff in there.
Maybe they recorded some hardcore during the HN era? That whiteboard of song titles post TT5B/pre TMU? Any vocal demos or such recorded for TMU? HSC part 1? The final sessions? And then what about favourite live cuts? Soundcheck malarkey (FFYR on the Gala Event tour for example)? It goes on and on without even touching on the 'big 4' albums.
It's May 4th here, so it's easy to see how much even contemplating 'archival' releases must suck for Adam and Mike. Hard to be hyped at all, I imagine. But if they're up for it, it could be crisp.

If there is anything like that Intergalactic original cut that found its way out of the woodwork I will take it all please.
I'd gladly support anything new in the hopes that some $ will flow back to MCA's family.

Yeah, I never understood why that wasn't included on any of the reissues as a bonus track.
And I agree...if there are more like that...bring them on!

Maybe they recorded some hardcore during the HN era?
Would that be Anglio E Olio or were those extra songs from IC?

I think it was more of a in between the two. I remember hearing something like they had it in them and wanted to get it out on its own. Which led to the quaser tour.

It's fun to imagine there could be some sort of Country Mike-esque high-concept/half-baked project sitting somewhere down in the sediment.

Would love to see these releases staggered through the future:
1. Hot sauce part 1
2. An "Odds and Sods" type record
3. Proper live record from later years
4. Jam instrumental record from early years
5. Dvd of "Gala Event" shows
6. Archival live record through the years like Nirvana's "From The Muddy Banks of The Wishkah"
7. Archival live record from Paul's Boutique promo show(s). The whole show.

I've read before that those Paul's Boutique promo shows were only about 4-5 songs long. Still would be nice to see though.
As for Aglio E Olio, I remember reading somewhere that when they were recording Hello Nasty that they were writing a lot of hardcore songs and that they had too much to put on Hello Nasty so they decided to just put out a separate hard core album. Although Aglio E Olio came out around 1995, I don't know if they were recording Hello Nasty material back then, but they did release the original intergalactic around that time.

OG intergalactic is an IC off-cut. Personally, I wouldn't count Aglio e Olio in the Hello Nasty era. It's an arbitrary distinction, though.

From beastiemania:
"When we first started working on Hello Nasty in New York, Awol [Amery Smith] was around helping us get set up. Along with the usual bunch of experimental jamming/sampling etc., we started playing a bunch of hardcore, putting song arrangements together really quickly. Then I started writing vocals. Soon we realized that we had way too many hardcore songs to possibly put on the next album, so we decided to release them all together as an EP." - Michael Diamond, 1999

Hello Nasty could've benefited from more hardcore, less noodling.

I don't know, I dig the strange trip they went on with Hello Nasty

I feel it definitely preempted the lack of hardcore material recorded in the HN-era though. Would have been interesting to hear something aggressive to follow I Don't Know, mind.

I really wish I liked it more. Hello Nasty has just always been the weak link in their album output for me. Mayhaps someday I'll be all in. I hope.

That was pretty much my expression too. Don't get me wrong, there was a clunker or 2 on there, but it was by far their weakest link.
That honor would go to TT5B. For that one, it wasnt necesarily the lyrics as it was the music. There are some pretty slick remixes on beastiemixes that are leaps and bounds better than some of the originals.
To each their own I guess.

To each their own most definitely, especially when it comes to B-Boys records.
I've grown to like HN more over the years, but I agree with Bernard. To me it's just always seemed a bit too 'cartoon-y' and, while it has some excellent moments, the whole thing just sounds a bit too clean for me. I liked how they returned to the tag-team rhyme style to a degree, though the message - if there is one - gets lost too easily.
I think TT5B pisses all over HN. They went for a sparser concept and kept things relatively simplistic, but it's subsequently a much stronger and more cohesive effort in my opinion. The rhymes are significantly better, too. Alas, to each their own...
