Yep. I saw somewhere that listed the top 10 musical performances on Letterman and Beasties were in there. The ChCheck It Out performance was linked in the list.

At the end of the show, they ran a montage of memorable moments from all of Dave's shows from 1982 to present.

If you watch closely, there is a quick cut to the boys playing Ch-Check It Out.

That was pretty cool that out of 6000+ shows, they thought that it was good enough to include as one of its best moments.

You can watch it here.

After watching that, I realized I have honestly seen about 75% of those clips as they aired. F....I'm old.

Edit: I watched it again. Around the 5 minute mark is when they appear. Just previous to that, they showed a bunch of music legends (Warren Zevon, Lou Reed) that have passed away and it hangs on to their images. Then it rapid fires to bunch more performances before it hits Beastie Boys. The still appears and it hangs on to this for just a little longer than all the others in that section. I would like to think this is a subtle tribute to MCAs passing as the still they chose has him front and center.

^ I thought the same thing. Loved that montage. They included everything except Pee Wee Herman (for some reason).

Yeah. That was really odd. I remember that driving in front of the green screen bit pretty well.

it seemed like dave actually liked having beastie boys on the show.

this is one ny institution i'm kinda bummed to have never checked out - never went to the show. i know a couple of board members went to the 'so whatcha want' aifst style performance, that would've been my favorite to've been at.

the classic bboys letterman performance (or even the classic live tv performance) was the ch-check it out live video. i remember watching this at a bar with a bunch of other afficionados, it was incredible right away. i also remember seeing this on tv around some other non-bboy hedz and heating them say thing like, 'wow! still strong!".. they were always a great live act. lots of rap groups aren't that great live, but beastie boys stilos really lent themselves to tv happenings like this.

i did notice them included in the last show photos set.. im gonna really miss the late show with david letterman(y)

I missed a few of the shows leading up to the end. Cruising through YouTube, I realized they ran a highlight reel of their favorite bits they did right outside the Ed Sullivan theater about a week back. They showed a second of the Ch-Check It Out there too. Pretty cool montage set to Guerrilla Radio when RATM played on the marquee outside the theater.

Live at PJ's!

here's a best of list (http://diffuser.fm/david-letterman-musical-guests/) that highlights by year and features their Letterman debut. they easily could have made the 04 or 06 list with Check it Out or 3MCs/So Whatcha Want.

I was there for the 06 one, my one live taping attended!

It was great seeing the boys in that montage!

Letterman kept booking some of the riskiest acts for his show right on up till last month (he had Fat White Family on! That takes BALLS! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P4gXKX-Z-I0) I will really miss the music segment of his show, perhaps the finest continuous musical show ever televised, sheer brilliance musically at least once a week. If your going to perform on the same stage the Beatles struck the USA on you have to bring your "A" game!
