A brand new show about hip-hop’s most notorious pranksters. Join three young New Yorkers - Mike D, MCA and Ad-Rock - as they go from teenage punks to international rapping legends: The Beastie Boys. Created with creative support from comedy hip-hop legends Abandonman and the Rubberbandits, and using a mix of live music and DJ-ing, Licensed to Ill travels through time from the hiphoppers of '80s New York to the '90s gangsters of LA - all the way to the total globalisation of hiphop. This loud, crazy show does to music theatre what hiphop did to tracksuits: make them cool.

The Beastie Boys' story sheds light on many issues still raising hackles: racism towards & within rap; misogyny; the battle for hiphop's soul, between those using it for protest, & for profit. We follow the gang from teenage punks, via their discovery by legendary producer Rick Rubin, to their induction into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.

Article from AV Club:

Now here’s a little story I’ve got to tell
About three bad brothers you know so well
It started way back in history
With Adrock, M.C.A., and Mr. Mike D.

There was a place in London called the Camden People’s Theatre
Not too big, not too small, in size it ain’t no cheater
From far across the land, it heard of this band
And decided “Hey, their lives should be onstage, in our hands.”

Called Licensed To Ill, it purports to tell the story
Of three New York punk kids becoming MCs bound for glory
Not lookin’ for permission, to get the facts right
They call that “unauthorized”—to which Camden replied, “Tight!”

It tells a little story that sounds not well rehearsed
A mix of live music and DJ’ing might be the worst
But it goes from their early days right up to the Hall Of Fame
Then it ends, all without a Beastie’s blessing on its name

Now London’s got the show, you got this clue
You got two choices of what you can do
It’s not a tough decision as you can see
You can go see Licensed To Ill starting November 23

(un)Licensed to Ill. So funny when people try to pick up this band's legacy and march it forward in their own name. I suspect that it will blow in a way not seen for some time.

So worse (allegedly) than the new Jem and the Holograms movie?

Well I guess we will be able to tell if it's any good when those reviews roll in!

Realistically, how could it be good? If Mike and Adam are the shadow of the Beastie Boys, then amateurs faux-whining the lyrics (as so many do) don't even have a chance. Yuck.

I've seen these guys desperately promoting this on social media.

It looks terrible.

One of them is wearing a Milwaukee Bucks hat, for crying out loud.
