"-shaming"

dorothy: your internet word-shaming makes me feel like thread-shaming you but then I get self-shamey when i realize I've mentally vocabulary-shamed people myself.

(makes my eyes roll so hard they want to fall out.)

so the cable company handed out new fancy cable boxes and the new remote's buttons are backlight. they only light up when you pick up or move the remote. pretty cool. oh yeah and you can speak into your remote ala voice to text to search for shit. there's a nice little OS on the cable box.

I can't work out if people have always been this ridiculous and annoying or if the Internet really just showcases it.

My remote does not recognize anything when I say "Maron." I've also tried saying his whole name and pronouncing it in different ways in case I have an accent it doesn't recognize.

When the cable guy brought me the new box and remote, he showed me this feature by saying "Dukes of Hazzard." I don't have a lot in common with my cable guy.

One thing I've noted on social media is that a lot of the 'cool' people, having been crippled by their historically rich and fulfilling social lives (from as far back as adolescence), are just not very good at the internet. It's the more savvy of us who put them to shame and find them ridiculous and annoying. That's not pretension. It's just how it is.

Interesting, and I've noticed something sort of similar. When I've friended perfectly normal and nice seeming people (friends little sister, a quiet coworker, the girl who works across the street from my job, people like that) it seems like they have created an online persona to pick fights with people, air grievances and over-share personal affairs. But they can't hide behind their online persona because it's THEM with their name and their face and then I know every single thing about this person who is really just an acquaintance and I feel awkward whenever I see them: (

(but a lot of people I like say "love" to things on the internet...I'm sure I have, but it's gotten out of hand)

I have to say, I never knew there were so many idiots before the internet became mainstream. It's kind of terrifying.

Heh, never thought of it that way. I can see your point. My old roommate from the dorms in college was pretty socially successful, and is now a lawyer. I had to hide her from my feed because she was always claiming "free offers" for things, sharing dumb conservative articles, sharing all her game playing stats, asking people to vote for her so she could get free engagement photos (she's rich, btw), and finally because she started trying to sell cosmetics through some pyramid scheme thing (which, again, she's rich...so, wtf?)...all while using the grammar and spelling of a 2nd grader. She's a lawyer! ugh! We would probably still get on alright in real life though. I'm sure she thinks I'm a totally nuts weirdo though.
