I just put out a recording of a dj mix I created for a live performance some time back. I think you might be interested in hearing it, because it includes a plenty of Beastie Boys material: special mixes and blends created just for this mix, some rarer stuff like tracks produced by Adrock, but also songs that have influenced Beasties and from which they have taken phrases and so on.

This is not a Beastie Boys themed mix. But because I'm a big fan and the mix is almost 2 hours long, there sure is a lot of Beastie Boys related material included within. But I think there are also a lot of other stuff that I think you will enjoy, or dare I say, might even be right down your alley. :)

So here it is: Wack Master Wallace - Rough Cut Ride

The mix was recorded live at the rehearsals for the gig with 2 Vestax PDX-2000 turntables and a Vestax PCM-05ProII mixer. All vinyl. No overdubs.

I hope you have time to check the whole thing out, but here are just some Beastie Boys moments:

There are a lot more, but I won't spoil your surprise by pointing them all out.

I hope you'll enjoy this mix, and if you do, please leave a comment here and/or on Soundcloud. Creating the set took much effort, so it would be nice to hear what people think.

Kicking it off with Blue Flowers and Ricci Rucker! Damn son, you're breaking out some scratch-DJ shit. I can't believe you're cutting up your Scetchbook LP though. Not too many copies of that floating around.

Anyway, nice selection. Keep at it. Very cool you're into this stuff.

It's nice to see that there are people, who can spot this stuff and appreciate it! I remember, when the Scetchbook cd by Ricci Rucker and Mike Boo came out. It became immediately a milestone in turntablism music, at least for me. (I just realized that it has already been 13 years since it came out. Time flies.) The song you are speaking of became instantly one of the highlights for me. So, I had to get the LP too. The LP also had an unlisted extra track in the end. That can be found on my set too.

I know that the Scetchbook LP is quite rare and valuable nowadays. There is actually a lot of rare and hard-to-find vinyl used on the set. The comment by Dj Shadow regarding to the track "Holy Calamity" on the booklet of Handsome Boy Modeling School's "So... How's your girl?" comes to my mind: "For all three of you that care, Dj Shadow would like to state that all breaks used in this song were taken from the original source vinyl and not bootlegs or reissues. Suckers." I mean, in the end vinyl is made for listening to music, and I rather spin records for people's enjoyment than store them untouched in my collection. But I get your point! :)

That "Blue Flowers" track is the instrumental version of a remake done by Dan the Automator on the "Blue Flowers" 12". Great 12" I must say. There is also a remix by Prince Paul on that record. There is also rare Automator stuff on my mix set. For example a track from "Music To Be Murdered By" 12".

Did you spot some other things that you enjoyed?
