Did anyone else see the superbowl ad for the Ninja Turtles movie with the No Sleep Til Brooklyn snippet in it? I'm assuming they didn't authorize it since they're generally against this stuff, so is this another Def Jam "fuck you, we want the money" move?

That's what I was wondering. Also, did you notice the Julie Ruin song in the Advil commercial?

Although it should be pointed out that the BBoys are not against having their songs used in movies that they like. But it raises a few questions. 1- do they even have rights to that song? 2- did they approve of its use in this movie. 3-if they do have some say with this song, I thought Yauchs will prevented them from using the songs commercially.?

I remember that time some Steven Seagal movie used this song and seems it was determined had nothing to do with one of the 3's approval
I like the turtles

Yeah, I thought it sounded weird, like maybe it was a remake. But then I thought maybe they just chopped it up in some weird way.
Anyway, anything from the Def Jam era always raises my eyebrows. I was on a lone plane ride last month and I listened to all of the commentaries put out back in 2009 or whenever that was. I just thought about how shitty it is that there wasn't one for Licensed to Ill.

It's not a remake it's just been edited heavily to fit the trailer.

1. Yes.
2. Yes they would have to.
3. Their songs have been in movies since the 80's. They've never had issues with their songs being in film and tv shows. Their stance has been that they won't put their songs in commercials. There's a difference between using one of their songs for a episode of Breaking Bad or a Pepsi commercial.
