oh russell,,,
obviously neither mike nor adam will respond because at this point who really cares but theres previous band interviews that basically have the answers and responses
Simmons revealed that the Beastie Boys left Def Jam because of differences they had with both Lyor Cohen and Rick Rubin
i didnt see the vlad interview, i just read the article linked but how convenient of him to leave himself out of it. Also, they had a bad deal and on top of that he was trying to get them in the studio quickly to do more of the same stuff they were tired of. How many times have they taken shots at russell over not paying them
He [Rick Rubin] didn't make 'Fight For Your Right To Party,'" Simmons said. "That wasn't his shit. They made that...
Yauch said in interviews how they were working on licensed to ill and went on tour and when they came back Rick Rubin had finished that record up for them by making it cheesy hair band music. Also, beastie boys didn't know kerry king, it was Rick Rubin who got him to play guitar on that track and no sleep til brookyn as well.

If they keep at it, they might be as nice as Vanilla Ice one day.

It sucks that this revisionist history or updates on stupid lawsuits is the same tired crap we have to read about when it comes to news about the band.
Can't wait until the book deal...

I'm pretty sure everyone is misunderstanding what he meant, although I still think he's wrong.
He's talking about them on the pop level. Like he said, LTI was their biggest record and sold more than all their other records combined. He is talking sales and maybe pop status.
Not that Eminem is better or more important or more successful.
He should be more clear though.

in my field of work, if your real good and make money in a unique way, eventually other people catch on and then everybody catches on and then often there is a new state or federal law that prohibits that activity, so we say if your real good you create new policy/law....
Anyway, I think the legal effects the Beasties had on the music industry and new laws/precedents set because of them is pretty large ... anyway my point ... Originators, Great are just a few words that come to mind.
Now that I am older I have just accepted that The Beatles and The Beastie Boys are both great. Cant deny Eminem is great too. I really have stopped caring about whos the greatest, despite my thread Title. However, did not like the original title of the article from hiphopdx.
