Hearing No Sleep till Brooklyn in the TV spot
for the new TMNT movie is grating and just sad
given MCAs wishes. Who owns the rights there?
Still Def Jam?

There was a thread here that was posted when that trailer first came out that would answer your questions very thoroughly

Def Jam owns all the rights of LTI except FFYR. Beasties bought FFYR back years ago to kill the record.

Their songs have been in movies and tv since the 80's. They've never had issues with licensing their songs being in film and tv shows. Their stance has been that they won't put their songs in commercials selling a product i.e.: Pepsi. Movies and tv don't fit under those guidelines.

It's a fine line, but one they created.

There is? I can only see 9 threads in this whole section now.

For fun can you think of any other ads that had their songs? I feel like now on reflection Sabotage has been in movies, but can't remember any ads off the top of my head.

I don't think any of their songs have been in any ads, obviously not counting movie trailers.
Overall I think the best use of their music in media was "shambala" in breaking bad.

you're viewing threads from the last month. In your display options, if you select threads from the last year it would be on the bottom of page 2

The answer is none, because that's where they drew the line. They license their songs for film and tv, and sometimes the music ends up being used to promote the media in the form of a trailer.

I'm like 90% sure there was a TV ad for The Hangover 2 (or maybe 3) with Right Right Now Now in it.

There was a PSA sponsored by the NBA a few years ago about not calling people gay slurs featuring Make Some Noise instrumentals with NBA players talking over it.

Again, not an ad, and a message that obviously the group is cool with.

Edit: Also, I've heard their instrumentals in tons of shit over the years. I can't even remember because every so often I'll be watching a movie or documentary or something and a blurb from Lighten Up or Groove Holmes comes on and it's like "Oh dip: there they are."
