The record that changed my life and made me appreciate music. I can't believe it's 30 years old today. I remember '86 and '87 with Raising Hell and LTI on repeat. Good years as a teenager. I've never fell out of love this record. I still reference it when I record my own music. Thank you Mike, Adam and Adam (Rick too) for such an amazing record.
MMM asked today what people's favorite song off LTI. I said Posse in Effect. I love the rhyme scheme, the raw 808 beat and the "Catch a Groove" sample kills me.
What's yours?

Rhymin' & Stealin' turned my musical world upside down. It was the first track I heard since hearing Beastie Groove on a local radio station. The Ali Babba and the 40 thieves breakdown was ridiculous and firmly hooked me. A friend had to point out that they sampled Zeppelin, but for me it was a complete epiphany.
30 years later and we're still uncovering treasures from a collecting standpoint. Check out the LTI update HERE (http://beastiemania.com/main.php).

The New Style, easily 1 of the most underrated hip hop songs ever, at the same time a very influential one as well.

Admittedly, I wasn't into them when I first heard them. But that was due to a weird and bad musical phase and being influenced by other people. Thankfully around grade 7 I finally snapped out of it.
It was around grade 9 when Hello Nasty came out and everyone was talking about them again. I was doing the columbia house deal and needed some more CD's to fill my order out. I decided to pick licensed to Ill.
It wasn't until I was walking to school with my cheap anti-skip discman where the Led Zeppelin samples combined with the story of She's Crafty finally started to resonate with me.
Later on I bought my first '45: FFYR/PR and really became obsessed with Paul Revere and started highjacking stereos at parities and lip syncing to it, much to the annoyance of everyone there.
Long story short. Time to get Ill

Nice article (http://www.hiphopdx.com/interviews/id.2993/title.russell-simmons-chuck-d-dmc-more-examine-beastie-boys-license-to-ill-impact) with Hurra, Rush, DMC, and others reflecting on the LTI era.
