Just saw, more dates:

https://bnds.us/lgosih

April 5-Philly
April 8th and 9th-Brooklyn

Anyone know if this is the same as the shows from late last year? It's marketed as directed by Spike Jonze.

It looks like with spike attached it will be polished and crafted for the stage. I always though this thing had a legit chance to be considered a “play” or theatrical experience.

I’m pretty sure Mike and Adam crafted the first run of the book tour entirely on their own, and now they have a better idea of how a staged version of their book tour would play out so they called in the big guns to get real theatrical like.

Can’t wait for this to expand and possible come back on a tour

Spike will film it, confirmed during the sxsw keynote.

“Diamond and Horovitz dropped the big news at the end of the keynote: The pair are giving a handful of speaking events in Philadelphia and New York City in April. These dates are inspired by their book tour, at the conclusion of which the duo wondered why they didn’t just film their appearances. That’s exactly what will happen next month: Spike Jonze will film the shows that will be released at a later date.”

CJ's got the inside track. Knows somebody in the band or connected to somehow.

While the temptation to is strong, he cannot reveal all, as he is sworn to secrecy.

Meanwhile, he tortures starved fans with a little crumb here, a little morsel there.

But if I read between the lines.....there is even more on the horizon. Perhaps live music performance? Crazier things have happened.

If not, how was it handled at the other shows? Did they do signings at the venue or did they have a separate gig for the signings? Not a huge deal, I'm just trying to figure out whether it's worth lugging the book to the venue or not.

CJ might know a bunch of shit. Whether he does or doesn't, it doesn't mean shit to me because he's cryptic to the point where I don't care about researching it. You wanna tell me what is about to happen? Then just tell me. If I get to find out with everybody else, and somehow it fits in with info CJ had already had provided, then status points for calling it. Honestly, though, what is the fascination with 10 word posts from somebody who knows shit but can't tell us. I love the fact that he gives me nuggets, but if he's sworn to secrecy and cant give me the info early then what is the point?

Not to be harsh, because he called this way in advance..

Appropriately enough for a book that was written in part as a tribute to how the Beasties made each other laugh, the group had wound up with enough material for a second book, all consisting of in-jokes. Horovitz claims this is called “Funny to Us” and it recounts nothing but the weird moments on the road that would never make sense to anybody who wasn’t part of the group. Diamond asserts “there’s literally 150 pages” for this potential sequel.

But I figure its not good for anything other than saying "hey, look what CJ knew before the rest of us". Not hating, just saying.

ha....i'll be in chicago for SW Celebration next week. lord knows why i agreed to this but hey, 2 things make me happy (3 if you count the cassettes bigfatlove is helping me repopulate), but that's SW and the Bboys. SW fandom is as crazy and cryptic as Mic says, much more so than anything ever beastie related. and they are toxic which adds a whole other level to their crazy. i'm in the lottery though to hopefully get on at least one panel convo, which won't happen, but i'll still revel in the psychosis that is SWC nonetheless.

...no way. i don't hate that name but i kinda like Skywalkers to be honest with you. i know it doesn't really fit, and maybe it doesn't work withing the narrative of TLJ given there are not many Skywalker's left, or so we think, but it somehow feels applicable given the last chapter in the so-called saga.

Ok, I get it. May is capitalized in an earlier post. Summer in another. You're not so subtle that people fail to notice, only you suck balls at providing any concrete info. So if your aim is to tease everyone then I can't fault you in the least. You do that exceedingly well. If your aim is anything other than that, then you're failing miserably. I like you lots. Didn't go to the first round so I'm not in a perfect position to answer but from what I saw on YouTube it was the same idea with a slightly different format. They stood the entire show (no sit down coffee table stuff like I saw from the LA show). No Mix Master Mike. philly ALWAYS gets live crowds for the band I’m noticing. While nyc always seems to be on the lackluster side.

I can tell you from experience at nyc shows I’ve seen yauch make a WTF face at the crowd for not being live, can’t remember what song it was. I’ve seen Horovitz call out a fan for sitting down in the middle of the show. I always thought the AIFST concert crowd was tame except for the intro to brass monkey, which the band screwed up and had to restart and didn’t get the same energy again lol.

Also, the paranoia in me thinks making the fans not have access to their fans can be dangerous if shit pops off

Try not to be paranoid Cheese. It's extremely rare for something dangerous to happen at a live event. It just makes its way to the front of our minds because the media goes so hard with it. It's sensational, it gets big ratings (which sells more ads = more money for the network, of course it's all because of a lust for money), people can't get enough of the coverage. But the reality is, millions of events go on every year with nothing happening. It's just a couple things a year that happen. So the likelihood is extremely low, almost impossible, that it will happen somewhere you are. The few that do occur create hysteria. Just remind yourself of that. The most dangerous situation is in fact, driving. A million people die in cars every year. That is the situation where we should be most worried. But I'm never worried when I'm driving. I got my music on, listening to podcasts, chilling. You just have to keep things in perspective. It is hard to these days, unless you just turn off the tv and the internet. They're hysterical.

Steve Buscemi did a skit on the April 10'th show, which was ok, but came off pretty scripted. Still, pretty cool. Also, Lena Dunham played Bob Dylan, which was groan-inducing. NY has no love for her, regardless of what HBO wants you to think with that stupid show she had. The audience (which was great the entire night) was pretty much in solidarity in hating her being there. Not funny at all.

My impression of the show was overall positive. I thought Mike D was much better at being tongue-in-cheek. Adrock had a much more natural charisma and stage presence, but I think he over-acted, if that makes any sense. My favorite part was easily when they went over the Rick Rubin stuff. That was absolutely hysterical. Roddy Piper got a big pop from the crowd.

That's somehow "good" to know. I watched a few episodes and couldn't get over the myopic, rich, NYC millennial thing. I guess maybe that's how kids are at that age (self-centered) but I couldn't figure out why I was supposed to care. I'd be much more into a show about a poor Hispanic kid living in Tulsa who has no friends and plays video games all day.
