Well, some more reissues are on their way. Thoughts? Opinions? Mac n' cheese recipes?

Thoughts...
For US buyers...
1) The Bundles with the T-shirts are set to ship on September 26. If you buy a bundle without the tee you'll wait another 28 days to get yours. Kings Road Merch actually did collectors a solid for once by stating plainly " If you'd like other items to deliver sooner, please make two separate orders.*" So if you want it early, buy the tee, even if you just spent a chunk of cash to get the tee from the Beyond The Streets store. All of the bundles are limited to 2 copies per order.
2) The vinyl without the tees will be shipped on October 4. My guess is that these are part of the same original 2019 pressings, but if you wanted to be sure you could order the new vinyls without the tees, and probably get the same record.
3) The Root Down 2019 repressing is the most interesting from a collecting standpoint in that there are 3 variants pictured (red, green, and blue). You can only order 2 that would be shipped on September 26 BUT you could double down by ordering the vinyl only release and give yourself a chance at getting the 3rd color variant.
4) From a merch standpoint, there are some new items available. I would seperate them into 2 categories. Stuff that was available from Beyond The Streets that has been rebranded without the BTS info (I skipped out on these because I am not really a Merch guy), vs completely new merch. New Merch is an Ill Communication black hoodie, an Ill Communiction Grey Hoodie, a TT5B White Hoodie, an Ill Communication snap back Hat, and an Ill Communication beanie.
That's just my thoughts on the items available in the US from beastieboys.com
I would love any help my overseas Beastie family could help me dig into what is available outside of the US.

As usual, bigfatlove with the ultimate collecting strategy.
I was also thinking, for the Root Down release, I'll likely buy 2 and see if I get duplicate colors. If so, I'd be down to trade with people on the boards rather then try to sell it online and deal with the flippers on Ebay.

You could also just place separate orders of 2 Root Downs and try to get all 4..... I think. I haven't tried it, but I might soon. Will report back!
On to some other topics...
Has anyone heard anything else about these releases? Who is pressing them? Why this selection of records but not CYH and HN?
At first I was like "Damn, seems like just a money grab." Then I remembered the 2009 remasters came out 10 years ago.....yikes. Time flies!

Looks like Paul's Boutique is double vinyl again? I'm a fan of breaking the album up into 2 discs for the better sound quality.

You could place 2 orders for Root Down without the tees and have equal chances, unless the bundle version is different than the later release.
I inquired as to other pressings and country of origin. I'll let you know what I find, but generally we fans usually end up clarifying that in the end.
I think the theory on what to repress when is tied to anniversaries as in...
Paul's Boutique 30 year anniversary
Ill Communication 25 year anniversary
Root Down 25 year anniversary (although the single wasn't released until 95)
To The 5 Burroughs 15 year anniversary
If that is the case, you could expect reissues of...
Licensed To Ill 35th anniversary in 2022
Check Your Head 30th anniversary in 2022
The Mix Up 15th anniversary in 2022
Hello Nasty 30th anniversary in 2023
and so on and so forth
And just to highlight... It was super-duper-uncool-as-fuck for Kings Road Merch to send me an email on 8/16/19 at 11:52 AM announcing the reissues, then check back today and see that everything was discounted 20% AND there is free shipping. As In if I had waited 3 days I could have saved $208.80. I guess we always hurt the ones we love.

Wow - I didn't even realize that all of those anniversaries happened to line up like that. I wonder if they'll reissue The Mix Up though, seeing as you can still buy 1st editions brand new through the store. If they do, it would be amazing if they threw in a bonus disc with all those b-sides that were either released on foreign CDs or as digital downloads only.
As for the sale, are you guys talking about the bundles or just the records or both? I went to the store just now and I don't see anything about 20% off or free shipping.

I forgot to mention that the 20% off everything in the store and free shipping promo that was on the site required a promo code which was "BEASTIE4TH". Since I'd already bought the US reissues, I chose the EU store. I added 2 copies of all four reissues to my cart, proceeded to checkout, entered the code, and it wasn't valid.
All of that leads me to believe that King's Road has a plan to drop the price on a promotion on the 4th, it somehow hit the site early when it shouldn't have been visible, corrected the mistake, and called it a day. They can run their store any way they want. Nonetheless, how do any of us feel about being counted on to snatch it up on day one only to find out it'll cost less later? Not that it will cost less because sales to the hard core collectors lag, but that there is a plan to discount shit once you've milked the core fan base.

I'm probably screwing myself by doing this, but here is the email I sent kings road BEFORE I learned there is a plan to discount down the road.
Hello support team,
I have a few quick questions. On order numbers XXXXXXC and XXXXXXX I purchased (from the US). I bought 4 copies of each of the reissues and 1 of each of the new merchandise I didn't have totaling $858.25. It is NOT so I can resell them. It is so I can trade them to fellow collectors in the UK, EU, Australia, and Germany to catalog all of the different pressings and variants. My questions are...
1) Are all of the reissues pressed in the US and then exported, or are there different pressings from different regions? If you know how many different countries press the vinyl it would help immensely. It's my intention to catalog every unique pressing so I can update our discography.
2) On the Root Down reissue I know that the vinyls are randomly inserted, but is there any way that I can ensure that I get one of each color? I'm not wanting to screw other people who purchased it out of their fair chance at a color, I am only asking because I am going to have to do the same for the United Kingdom / Europe / Germany / and Australia pressings and that means I need to purchase at least 8 copies per territory just to have a fair chance of getting all 4 (one color each of copies pressed in all 5 territories). So 40 copies is daunting and cost prohibitive. Can you help me out?
3) ANY contacts you have from the folks overseeing distribution to other territories would help me a lot. We don't sell shit on our site. We are basically some hard core fans who break all of the different releases down for fans. We spend money to maintain the site, and don't sell anything. So, if your team can find one person who could help me spend less and do more to educate the small niche of hard core collectors I'd be grateful.

Not defending King’s Road in any way but I know they were running a 4th of July promotion last month with that code so maybe it was accidentally still active and now the code has been removed? Tried using it on the EU site in July and it didn’t work then either.

I'm gonna assume that no one from KRM has written back?
Also, this thought just popped into my head. Paul's Boutique is being released on 180g double vinyl. The 1998 reissue was on double vinyl, but was not 180g, while the 2009 reissue/remaster was on single vinyl and was 180g. I'm just wondering if they are pressing the same remaster as 2009 but splitting it up or if they are using the old plates from 1998.

This one of the things I'm curious about. I can't see myself buying a lot of this stuff over new vinyl colors but if the audio content is new I might pop on the Paul's Boutique record. Splitting music up over more physical space on the vinyl can lead to pretty drastic increases in sound quality.

I hear ya. In fact, I used to have the 1998 reissues of Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head, but I traded them because I felt they didn't add anything to my collection once the 2009 remasters came out. I wasn't going to throw down for the color editions, but I figured meh...... why not. I am hoping that PB is the remastered version, because that would be DOPE.
Yet another diversion from the topic, I realized that Some Old Bullshit is 25 years old this year, but I guess it isn't in enough demand for a reissue. Next next year Aglio e Olio will be 25 years old. I wonder if we'll get the first ever reissue of that bad boy......

I just noticed something weird with the Root Down reissues.
If you go to Amazon, you can pre-order Root Down on black vinyl, which isn't available on the Kings Road website.
I wonder if this is 1.) a mistake, 2.) an Amazon-only thing and they don't get to partake in the random colors, or 3.) black is going to be one of the "random colors" (just like it was with the Love American Style reissue back in '98), but Amazon is only selling the black version.
Anyone have any idea?

I ordered one copy of the US Paul's Boutique on black vinyl, and one copy of the Root Down EP on black vinyl. The reason for that is that they are listed as pre orders. It doesn't seem that they intend to re release Ill Communication or To The 5 Boroughs on black vinyl in 2019. I'm wrong all of the time, so don't bank on that being what actually happens. The black vinyl re pressing's appear to be limited to those two releases.

The first wind that I got was from a collector in Ireland. He sent me this link (https://beastieboys.lnk.to/2019VinylEditions?fbclid=IwAR0vC2CgTBe5Xoy21we0kVH mXVDIWNMkqu7z8tz91afCYPqXgVz-PeUjgAk) which detailed the color versions on the site, the black vinyl versions on amazon, and a link to Record Store Day. Hope that helps.

Ahh, ok. I found an article in Spin that confirms the black Paul's Boutique reissue as well. I'm curious why these black versions aren't being offered through KRM at all though...
So for now, we've got the following coming:

Paul's Boutique (purple)
Ill Communication (silver)
Root Down (black)
Root Down (blue)
Root Down (red)
Root Down (orange)
Root Down (green)
To The 5 Boroughs (blue)
I'm curious to hear if KRM ever writes about concerning non-American releases and if they are truly non-American or if they're just exported from the States to Europe.

From a super nerdy standpoint this (https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/1078024/four-balls-with-different-colors-in-a-box-how-many-times-do-i-need-to-pick-to-s) is the best explanation I could find about how many copies you would have to buy to have an average chance at getting all 4 random copies of the Root Down reissue. That doesn't mean that if you order 8 copies you'll get 1 of each, only that on average that's how many you'd have to order to give yourself a slightly less than average chance at getting all 4.

From an international standpoint...
The UK option defaults to the EU store. I am operating under the assumption that the EU distributor covers copies to the UK and EU. The Germany store doesn't default to either of those, but I don't know anyone in Deutschland. The Australia store redirects to an artist direct page. I do know somebody in AU that will help me figure that out.

Maybe this is a pretty obvious question, but does anyone know if you can just place multiple orders for the Root Down EP to get around the "limit 2 per product" restriction on KRM? I know you can do the whole bundle + just EP combo to get 4 copies, but is there any chance if I just place 2 different orders for 2 Root Down copies each, KRM would cancel one of them?

If you pay them for the order they'll send it. The only reason I included the bundle with tee is just in case it was limited or somehow different, and that it was set to ship 4 days ago (which it hasn't, which means I spent a bunch of money for nothing). If you just want your best shot at random colors then place separate orders for 2xeach of how many ever you want.

I think KRM is gonna get their just due on how well they did with shipping on time. I got two of the 4 orders I placed from the EU store delivered on time so congratulations to my Anglo-saxon KRM brothers from across the pond for delivering one half of the time. That by far exceeds the performance of the North American branch which delivered 0% on time. In the defense of my continental United States brethren, they did manage to send out an message on facebook (but not a message to my email from where I placed the order) the day of the release explaining that the pressing plant fucked up and they won't ship until next Wednesday.
I feel pretty good about that, because even though I ordered $1500 worth of merchandise from KRM, they have a really good excuse "production problem at the pressing plant".
The most fantastic part of it all is that for a second time (HSCP2 release) I get to watch retailers sell the shit I ordered. There will undoubtedly be youtube unboxing videos of the shit I ordered (35 copies altogether with only Amazon delivering the complete order on time).
Kings Road Merch can suck a dick. I took time off to receive and catalog orders. Now, I'm just watching shit go by like a kinda sorta fan.
Thats all.

There are physical copies available on line of shit that I pre ordered. Shit that was originally listed to ship a month earlier than available elsewhere. A MONTH. No apology for the incorrect listing. No response to requests for info. No records, as promised. No personal communication. Just a big old clusterfuck of the highest magnitude.
That's reall all.

For some less angry more useful info...
The two Root Down color copies I got from EU yesterday were shipped from Germany. Both were orange. There is no indication on the outside packaging that identified where they were pressed or the sleeves were printed. There was a sticker on the outside of the back cellophane over the bar code with a different bar code "6 02577809101" than the one printed on the back of the sleeve itself "602577809088".
The bar code that is covered up matches the bar code on the US black copy I got from Amazon. In addition... the labels, sleeves, spine, insert, and run out grooves all match the US copy exactly (including P. USA stamped in the run out grooves). So the good news is that if you are one of the folks who wants to get every unique pressing, I am 99% sure that all of the copies sold from KRM were pressed in the US then shipped to overseas distributors. So if the rest of the copies show up the same, you wouldn't have to track down foreign pressings.
Lots of thanks to Colm from Ireland who is helping me sort out all of the EU reissues, and if anyone is interested I will post whatever I find with the other copies we've ordered as they come in. Sorry for the bitching in the earlier replies, all in all it's just records.

Well if it makes you feel any better (which I'm sure it doesn't), I haven't heard jack shit from KRM because I'm not on Facebook, so I didn't even know about this "problem" at the "plant" until I read this post. So KRM is saying that there was a production problem at the plant, yet Europeans seemed to be able to get their copies...which were pressed in the US....at the problematic plant.............ok.
Anyway, I ordered 4 copies of Root Down (US only) and I have a feeling someone is gonna just grab them all from the same stack and I'll get 4 of the same color. Just a friendly reminder that once I get my copies (whenever that is) I will gladly swap with people so we can get the colors we need. I'd rather do that and save everyone money rather than buy them and sell them at a mark-up on EBay.

Just to add weight to the UK/EU superior store / operation theory, I have always been impressed with KRM this side of the pond. Always on time or quick to deliver. Always well packaged etc. I was late ordering the new colour vinyls (yesterday) but already shipped today apparently.
Sorry to hear the US side of things is so shambolic though (n)
@dave790,
Can I ask what vinyls you ordered? I ordered over a month ago from the EU site and received the email on Thursday saying there was a delay in dispatching the order due to a problem at the pressing plant.
I ordered
PBx1
ICx1
TT5Bx1
RDx2
I’m wondering if it’s just an issue with one particular pressing.
Makes it more annoying if people ordering now are getting their orders but people who ordered ages ago are being made to wait!
Cheers
Colm

Yep, I ordered the IC and PB reissues.
I completely understand your frustration. I haven't actually received mine yet, and I took the opportunity to order some Bad Religion vinyl too from the same store, so who knows what I'll receive this week. But honestly my experience with KRM in the UK has always been solid (y) at least they have communicated the issue with you, for whatever that is worth.
I gave up on pre-orders years ago because there is nothing to be gained (unless discount/gig ticket related, the latter of which is frankly ridiculous) - I'd advise anyone else to do the same.
tuc70021

I'd also like to just chime in and reinforce for the millionth time how much KRM sucks in the US. I have two orders for these new reissues: one contains all the reissues and one is just for a couple of copies of Root Down. The first is delayed because of the "production" issue at the "plant," and the other doesn't show up when I check the order status. I just get an "Oops!" error. So the one with the delayed items gives me a status showing no progress, and the one with the records that are not delayed shows me an error. Awesome.
Can we bring back to corpse of Columbia House Record Club to see if maybe it can figure out how to effectively deliver physical music to human beings?

If anyone needs an orange copy of the Root Down reissue, shoot me a message. I have 3 copies I'm willing to trade for any other color.
Also, here's what I think happened: KRM got all the colors in 4 separate piles and instead of actually distributing them randomly, they just picked from the same pile until it was gone. Apparently in the US, people who ordered early are getting a fuck ton of orange copies.
So thanks KRM, for sucking balls so consistently and thoroughly.
Its not just confined to US orders, So far I have received 4 copies of Root Down from the UK store ( 2 for me 2 for BFL) and all of them have been Orange!
Can any one confirm that all advertised colour variations actually exist?
Thanks KRM!

I just filed a complaint with KRM through their website kingsroachmerch.com/#contact). Over on the Beastie Boys reddit page, people are reporting the same thing - all orange. Someone already filed for a refund on the grounds that this was false advertising, and in my letter to KRM I said I planned to do the same unless they could somehow address this issue. It's not just people on this board - practically everyone I've encountered "in the wild" or whom I know personally are receiving only orange copies.

KRM won't do anything about it, because they received the records sealed. They told me that they are the distributor and have no idea what colors the records are when they receive them. For anyone interested, I ordered 8 copies through the US store, and 8 through the EU store hoping to get all four colors from both regions. Right now I have 11 Orange, and one Blue. Incidentally, they were all pressed in the US (including 2 that I had shipped to KAV in Ireland from the EU store, and 2 that I had shipped directly to me from the EU store). I pointed out that the odds of receiving 11 identical copies in a row from a set of 4 different randomly selected colors is 1 in 4,194,304. I was offered no remediation, and have had other issues (which I am cataloging meticulously) as well.

I think there are still grounds for people who purchased with a credit card to file for a refund (this might be a US thing - not sure how credit cards work around the world).
If the terms under which a purchase was made are deemed fraudulent, a credit card company will often reimburse you and try to get their money back from the seller. This is often a better method because if a major credit card issuer suddenly starts calling bullshit on a seller, the seller is more likely to give in since the treat of just me boycotting them is minimal, but the treat of an entire credit card company dropping them would be massive.

What is really funny is that if the other 4 copies I have on order, which are now 19 days past due with no tracking, are orange... I'm the dude who beat the odds of 1 in 1,073,741,824. But hey, it isn't their problem.

Better buy a lottery ticket if that's the case.

That's an angle I didn't consider. I am going to just continue to wait on the rest of the orders to arrive, catalog everything, and present KRM with an opportunity to respond.

despite the madness you've got to admit, the blue marble vinyl TT5B (https://photos.app.goo.gl/5qym9fF1unMfyvWeA) is pretty fucking awesome right...

Has anyone else had a problem getting the black version of Root Down from Amazon? I ordered a copy and it was "in transit" for over a week, kept getting delayed, and then they just canceled it without giving a reason.
Just gets better and better.

That's the truth! I am very happy with everything that I actually received, other than the landslide of orange vinyls.

The Root Down black vinyl, and Paul's Boutique Black vinyl are the only two that I ordered that actually came on time with no issues.

News from the Reddit front: people who ordered their copies from places other than KRM are getting better distributions of color. Maybe KRM got all the oranges.

Getting away from the many KRM debacles for a moment...
Has anyone been able to tell if these releases were different from a production standpoint at all?
I was listening the the purple Paul's Boutique and A Year And A Day really caught my attention. I then played my 2009 remaster and my 1989 original to try to hear the differences. 1989 is obviously notably different, but I couldn't tell if it was just me or if 2019 seemed louder and more bass heavy. The "Disco Dave" parts of the song sound kind of lost in the bass on the 2019 version. I mean, they all sound great, but I wasn't sure if these had been remastered again.
I haven't compared the other 2019 reissues yet, but was curious if anyone had any input on the whole production issue.

I'm in the US but I'd be happy to sell you a red or orange (or both) still in shrink wrap at the same price I paid plus shipping (which I know to the UK might be a little high).

I ordered 2 copies of everything in the UK and had them shipped to a friend in Ireland, so when they are all there I'll be selling off the duplicates and you could avoid international postage.

Just wanted to post a quick update for those who are obsessives like me. I've been trying to collect all of the Root Down colors, and like many others, I was duped into thinking that Kings Road Merch would actually send out random colors. I started looking around for other retailers, and ended up buying a bunch of Root Downs from them.
This is the distribution of colors I've received so far, all from mail order:
Kings Road Merch - 4 orange
Amoeba Records - 1 red (another person reports getting a red from here as well)
Shuga Records - 1 red (another person reports getting a red from here as well)
Plaid Room Records - 1 green (another person reports getting a BLUE from here)
My hunt now begins for the blue reissue, but I thought others might like to know that there appear to be pockets of various colors out there.

Got the reissues from the KRM EU store around a week ago, Root Down EP arrived on red coloured vinyl, pretty happy about that, in my opinion red colour suits it best!(y)

Glad to hear the EU store had something besides orange!
The red does look pretty nice. Plus now there's a pretty good "red collection" of official vinyl: Love American Style reissue, Root Down UK 7" (burgundy, but close), Country Mike red version, and now this!

Yeah, I was pretty sure that will receive orange copy.
I did see on the Rough Trade website few weeks ago available copies of Root Down advertised as red, see below.
https://www.roughtrade.com/gb/beastie-boys/root-down/lp-plus
It would be nice to have a green copy as well to be honest, but I'm not going to gamble on that as I'm pretty sure not many have been pressed.

So obviously I don't know more than anyone else, but I got a green copy from Plaid Room Records online, and I know a couple other people have gotten blue copies from there. It looks like they still have copies for sale: https://www.plaidroomrecords.com/products/b-beastie-boys-b-br-i-root-down-ep-indie-exclusive-random-colored-vinyl-i?_pos=1&_sid=7a04daa51&_ss=r

Whoops! Yeah, that definitely makes sense. I'm sure people will start unloading them soon enough anyway, so good luck with your search.

For what it's worth my copy of Root Down was blue. I'm based in Ireland and ordered through KRM UK before Christmas. Would have liked orange or green as TT5B is also blue but I may end up trying to collect these too.

UK defaults to the EU store, good to know that they have had other coloured copies as well.
I'm after a green copy, can't find anything out there except black vinyls.:(

Now that almost all of the colored reissues are sold out (at least on the official US store), does anyone know how many copies these runs were limited to? The description says "limited edition" but since they weren't numbered, I was curious how many of these were actually made.
