who presses CDs anymore, and without a free digital download? wtf kind of marketing angle is that!?!
regardless though, this is exciting. when was the last time the bboys guested on somebody else's record? I can't even recall.

For a moment I was suspicious that the featuring will consist on voice samples from the LIT era instead of brand new verses. Let's hope not!!

De La Soul’s Squat I believe.
Probably correct for more than one Beastie Boy on a song.
Mike D is on a Slaves song, on an album he produced, and Adrock did a verse on a song with guy called Champagne Jerry... who as far as I can tell is a softball teammate of his that makes comedy rap songs.

wow...PE, RUN DMC and Beasties on one track. part bittersweet, part dream come true, part keep expectations in check, part why not add LL too.

Chuck did an hour and 20 minute Facebook live thing on the PE FB page. Interesting dude, haha. Felt like hanging out with an uncle that wants to tell you everything that's been on his mind for the past year.
He gave Mike and Adam "big ups" (along with all the other guests on the album) and mentions the Beastie Boys a few times in the context of PE's history (nothing anyone here wouldn't already know). He definitely smirked and savored it when he was like "Big ups to Run. DMC. Mike D. Ad-Rock. That's a surprise. Right?"
Apparently it was Flavor Flav who wanted to go back to Def Jam, and PE's team "made it happen". He said something about how Flav didn't want to do another independent album. Not sure if it's a money thing or if it's just way more work for them when they do an independent album.

Why not? They said that there won't be anymore "Beastie Boys" songs, but they would do other things together.
They did a bunch of side projects together over the years.

"Likewise, it remains a thrill to hear Chuck re-rampaging over Public Enemy No.1’s squelching beat for the newly-rechristened Public Enemy Number Won, which now comes bolstered with spoken word segments from Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock and Mike D, plus rhymes from Run-DMC. It’s not so much a walk down memory lane as it is a triumphant stomp."

It’s a great moment on the new album when you rock with Mike D and Ad-Rock, from the Beastie Boys, and Run-DMC on “Public Enemy Number Won” as middle-aged rappers now.
It’s a moment, man. It wasn’t easy, because the Beastie Boys have a pact that they’re not gonna be rhyming again [after Adam “MCA” Yauch’s death in 2012]. And what they were able to give to that song, to me, was just amazing … Run-DMC, Jam Master Jay, Ad-Rock, Mike D and MCA, they had brought me into the Def Jam thing. We’ve come full circle to do “Public Enemy Number Won.” It was the perfect 60th birthday present.
article (https://nypost.com/2020/09/24/public-enemys-chuck-d-on-breonna-taylor-it-was-a-teachable-moment/)
the pact thing is interesting. ad rock is on record post '12 doing that champagne jerry thing. i think the rapper mike d was doing some stuff when he was dj'ing. if true maybe they made this pact while writing the book and doing those shows. interesting though and good for them, and good for PE coming back at 60 to drop an album on def jam. still hard for me to think of flava w/o brigitte nielsen top of mind but whatever....

Mike raps on Consume Or Be Consumed by Slaves.
I just assumed the pact was that Mike and Ad wouldn't rap together....
EDIT: just listened to it. They don't just go the intro...they pop up later on :)

i always took it as they would just never rhyme again as beastie boys. the beasties banner and their catalog might be dead, but mike d and adrock are still free to create at will; hence they are credited as such in this case, and not as beastie boys. thats how i interpreted at least.

Haha I guess they technically rhyme at one point. Adam sounds like he’s recorded properly but Mike sounds like he’s on the phone.
The song is pretty cool even if we don’t get full verses from them. Run, DMC, Flav and Chuck all kill it.

meh it’s fine. sounds like they recorded Mike and Adam off of a zoom call which is super disappointing. i’m a huge fan of PE but they have remixed and remade this song a zillion times now. it was fine to listen once but i doubt i’ll listen to it again.
it was nice hearing Run and D rapping again tho.

I agree. I took it as they will never record or perform again as "Beastie Boys". The group is retired, but they would do other projects as Mike D and Adrock.

i like it alot. entire album is good even though 1/2 is repackaged from nothing is quick in the desert.
rare to hear the elder statesmen in rap, especially the big 4 together. wonder if LL was indeed supposed to be on the track, he's named checked twice.
dj lord cuts nice
flava sounded good rapping the 1st verse

surprisingly strong record for them, however Mike and Adam's contribution felt a little corny to me, tbh; more of an afterthought than a legit feature. cosigning the Yauch omission too on Rest In Beats. wtf ?

The original version of Rest in Beats that was on "Nothing is Quick in the Dessert" included MCA.

ive listened to this song around a dozen times, i like it. it's so rare to hear our champions on new songs, let alone a full record like PE. a few thoughts, RUN is still the shit. dude could always rap and despite some questionable choices in production and some bad career trajectory moves, and JMJ of course, but i think RUN should be held in higher regard as far as his MC skills. DMC is more preachy than the Rev but that's ok, he's earned it. chuck D is still top 5 at 60 years old. subjective yes but he sounds strong.
last...wish more legends would release full lengths.. would love to hear a new BDK album, slick rick, epmd, LL has one coming, eric b/rakim, etc.. rap is funny like that i guess....
