i got a chance to see pass the mic at radio city music hall last friday night. it was an amazing show with many legends. dj cassidy was great and he was the X factor going in for me but i didn't know a lot about him, but he really did a great job. each performer came out and did their 1 or 2 best songs; rakim, doug e fresh + slick rick, big daddy kane and few others did more as they closed it out. crowd was amazing and were on their feet for the entire 3+ hours rapping along with every word.
all this to say, with all of the 50th celebrations; rock the bells, yankee stadium, pass the mic, the HOT 97 50 greatest hip hop songs ever, etc. i feel like the beasties are getting lost in the shuffle. hot 97 never even nominated 1 beastie song and 10 songs were selected each round. the UHHM in the bronx had a few beastie items but even their for 85 - 90 era exhibit their representation was minimal at best. and i'm not talking about them performing at one of these things, don't want to see that, but it would be nice to just get some more recognition on the 50th bday. you can legitimately argue that they are more than responsible for how popular the genre became outside of NY. it's just sad to see because the rappers themselves always call out the influence of the beasties; icecube, meth, q-tip, eminem, dre, and so on.....
i wonder if this would be different if adam and mike lobbied more on behalf of themselves and their legacy.

You are so right. We could go on and on about their influence on hip hop, they are 1 of the greatest hip hop groups ever as we all know. If that event did not show proper respect, then we can have to disregard to a certain extent.

Bboys lobbying on behalf of their own legacy is about as off-character as it gets, imo.

agreed and poor choice of word. i think i was more or less thinking being in the mix more. showing up to some of these events and whatnot.
i think what got me at pass the mic was during the show cassidy did all types of mixes, and they were great, but the opening was like LL, PE, run dmc, kane, BDP, etc. and he mixed the shit out of the tracks too, but not one beastie song was thrown in at any point. i just though damn; if it were not for that run with the beasties, LL, PE and run dmc i don't think that hip hop would have transcended the universe so quickly. i mean LTI is the first #1 hip hop album on billboard.
anyway you are right about "lobbying", so off character imo too.

I’m going some local 50th event that has decided to split major eras into ‘zones’, one being 70s through to 99, and then a separate ‘zone’ being 2000 to today. I will lobby hard in both. I’m not holding my breath, though.

This. It's one of the reasons they're so great.

you know the Hurra gave them some love at 20 min with open letter to NYC
stick around for run dmc, i know it's 8 hours and most is very good but run dmc just might be the greatest group ever

Hurra seemed very unprepared, and the only person to have any sort of technical/audio troubles. And being followed by Manny Fresh right after made Hurra's set look amateurish. Love the dude, but come on!

concert got much better around 1:45 mark, then it got super tight as the night went on. run dmc was so good, the ghostface part was amazing, snoop, etc.. i mean it's 8 hours one stage. but it's really cool to see run dmc do their last show over, or so they say.
