Mine's probably jam (i think the Americans call it jelly)
I know this is a stupid question but humour me.
Sausages too.

i dont know about most americans, i think im probably alone here, but i draw a distinction between jam and jelly

jelly isnt very spreadable, its like chunks of goo
jam is smoother, easier to spread, and alltogether more pleasant

red raspberry jam + peanutbutter + a glass of milk

mmmmmm

Good thread!

well let's see..

a good ham n som cucumber is potentially awesome
marmelade with cheese is good for breakfast
tomatoe goes well with most things on bread

winner: bread with ham n pickles is my favourite..

I try to buy my bread from an actual bakery, but sometimes I get it from the market and it does suck pretty bad. Super processed with lots of preservatives (chemicals). Yucky.
Actually, when I said "brown" bread, it was in reference to either whole-wheat, pumpernickel, etc...anything but standard white.
I'm glad we had this talk. Now I'm hungry. Will you mail me some delicious old-world bread? Thanks.

i like the white marshmallow bread with peanut butter...the heel is the best part then...

vegemite IS really nasty...i had a little jar in my fridge, and i tried it once, and i think thats as far as it god to being used...

and im all about the meatball sub and the tuna melt...much more filling than anything else, and both are better with melted cheese on top

A Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato Sandwich on lightly toasted sourdough bread. Instead of mayo, I recommend dijon mustard.

A new one to try:
Mayo, Peanut Butter, Raisins, and Lettuce on wheat bread.
It tastes better than it sounds... yeah, leaving the mayo off is okay...

i like this one eggplant sandwich that is made at that place that used to be called grain d'or, ya'll know what i'm talking about? anyway it's on a toasted baguette with this mustardy stuff, grilled eggplant, mozzarella, or is it swiss?, and the yummiest roma tomatoes that taste like they've been marinated in a super good vinegrette, gaaah. get it as a hot sandwich. i want that right now...

the other sandwich i crave for is a chicken caesar panini. oh man. so freakin good! grilled chicken, caesar stuff, lettuce and tomato, and they grill/toast your bread too! with a side of pasta salad...yum!

i also love me some sharp cheddar melted on toasted whole wheat bread. damn. cheese is good.

and of course tchuunnah mixed with mayo, lemon juice, salt and pepper, get some slices of tomato, letucce, slapped on nine grain or a croissant. and ham and swiss. and pb & j... good lord, someone make me a sandwich!

A good sandwich is timeless...

"1st Century B.C. - The first recorded sandwich was by the famous rabbi, Hillel the Elder, who lived during the 1st century B.C. He started the Passover custom of sandwiching a mixture of chopped nuts, apples, spices, and wine between two matzohs to eat with bitter herbs. The filling between the matzohs served as a reminder of the suffering of the Jews before their deliverance from Egypt and represented the mortar used by the Jews in their forced labor of constructing Egyptian buildings. Because he was the first known person to do this, and because of his influence and stature in Palestinian Judaism, this practice was added to the Seder and the Hillel Sandwich was named after him." I work with this Dane and this Fin and they always eat their sandwhich's "open face".....seriously if it's not between TWO slices of sumthin...it's just not a sandwhich.....the worst sandwhich I ever had wuz at a pub in Heathrow...chutney and cheese...that's just wrong.....liverwurst,head cheese and mortadella (ital baloney) are nasty as well........the reuben has to be the king....and the classic north american "clubhouse" will always amend the damage done the night before, has to be the only sandwhich I can eat and drink coffee with.....(y)

Have you thought about opening up a sandwich bar to rival the global expansionists Subway. I think you've got legs to stop them in their tracks.
