NOICE!
That's awsome, so now someone could make the whole album into accapella's.

I'm not sure if this could work for all instrumentals... I mean, usually people do the instrumental and then record the voice over it, but in the single, the instrumental version that apears I think it's the first intrumental, not the final song with the vocals removed. I don't know if you can understand what I'm saying...

of course it only works if the instrumental is exactly the same as the song. and its not always that simple.

That is so cool. Some programs offer a Karaoke filter, use that and follow the steps mentioned and presto, you have an acapella. Or someone could make Paul's Boutique acapellas with the instrumentals. The possibilities are endless.

if acapellas are that easy to make, there would be one for every beastie boys song.

karaoke filters dont work on 99.9% of songs.

and for using the other method, your song and instrumental must be exactly the same. good luck getting it to work with instrumentals from dub the boutique...which must have been ripped from vinyl and I doubt would be able to cancel out the sound on your pauls boutique songs cause of slight differences.

go try to prove me wrong.

the instr. needs to be exact the same as the vocal without the vox ofcourse...(so only recent digitally recorded stuff is suitable for this method)

but it works fine...

I experimented with this method with one of my own songs (a punk style track) which I rendered to wav striaght out of my sequencer host - one full vocal mix and one intrumental.
Using Soundforge: On first attempt it never worked, but on second attempt after converting both wavs to mono I got a pretty good result. Although not perfect. The drums and the bass cancelled out totally, but some guitar remained. Full vocals were still evident. I reckon going back into the sequencer and panning everything central may make for a better result next time. If I can be arsed that is :)

Right after I posted I went out and tried it. I first started with one of my favorites "High Plains Drifter" and realized that the instrumental is shorter and a little faster. So that one couldn't be done. I then checked out every instrumental and noticed that the instrumental for "Looking down the Barrel of a gun" is one second shorter then the album version. So I trimmed that slight sound out in the beginning of the album version. Matched them up and it didn't come out right. :(

To make sure I was following the steps right, I made 2 versions of a quick remix, one with lyrics and one instrumental. Did everything again and I got a perfect acapella. This does work, if both versions are same in both length and quality. I really wish there was more PB acapellas though, I can't say I didn't try.

you might have a shot with the hello nasty instrumentals.
