They kinda grew out of the same thing and sometimes you hear the terms used interchangably. However ginger ale nowadays, you would probably think of, like Canada Dry or Schweppes or one of the sweeter, carbonated confection drinks you'd buy in the supermarket kinda thing. Real proper Jamaican ginger beer, when you can find it, is generally home-made, it's usually kinda yellowish and cloudy, and usually has a pretty powerful ginger kcik to it - nowhere near as sweet as the bottled stuff. Also it is generally made with yeast and so is carbonated that way as the yeast eats the sugars and ferments and all that science class kinda stuff. Often ginger beer is mildly alcoholic, but not always - depends on who makes it!

Go to a good Jamaican jerk joint, they usually have the best home-brew gigner beer.

i love ginger beer! (the non alcoholic kind, of course). it sure burns your throat, but when it gets down to your belly, 'tis all warm and comforty. :p

and its supposed to be really good for you, if you get the organic kind made with real ginger.

depends on the level (length of time really) of fermentation.

Shocking as this may seem, there are in fact times when one might actually prefer a non-alcoholic beverage!

yeah i know...i dont really drink at all actually (not that im quite of age yet, but its college...)

my favorite beverage is apple juice...and nothing can be done to make it better (unless its apple cider)
