wow.
thats my review of the past 48+ hours.
ok well, heres more...
props to beastieboys.com for lookin out for me, and the other people whom were on that inane SOB story ish. i hope you all enjoyed the show as much as i did.
and here we go....
my man Mike and I left Maine at around 11pm on Wednesday night. The night before, my roomate celebrated his 21st, so it can go unsaid that i was tired already and a 10 hour drive was NOT the best thing i could do for my body. anyway... 10 hours ahead of us, tons of CDs in the car, NO tickets for this show....oh well...we were ready.
we counted down how many states were left everytime we entered a new one... "YAYY we are in new hampshire!!"...""WOOOO Massachusetts!!".....etc etc etc.... we drove non-stop, taking turns driving whil the other tried to sleep, but most of it was spent listening [and rhyming] to EPMD, Gangstarr, Tribe and of course the beasties.... you sure run into some crazy fucks at 4am truckstops!!!
well....we roll into our nations capitol at about 9:30am or so. dead fuckin tired/nervous/excited/scared/ and about any other emotion you can think of! so yea,. a kid from Maine isnt so used to chillin in the ghetto....but damn, the 9:30 club isnt in the nicest part of town huh? i was surprised i found it so easily, fucking props to mapquest!
so, im listening to radio the whole time im there....and then hear those idiots the JUNKIES or something? giving away tickets to a bunch of morons trying to sing bboy karoke. some were good, and im not dissin' anyone on the board cuz i didnt hear them all....but most sucked. and of course, i couldnt get through...bummer.
so i gave up on that and we moved onto the venue. some dude was out chillin all alone, so we decided to talk to him. WHATS UP SF? [i still dont know why you were out there all day...you HAD a ticket man!!] WHFS started setting up to give away the wristbands to the lucky ducks that won...so, i just sat there and chilled with the radio and the 9:30 people. most of them were super nice, and i really appreciated them allowing me to just chill all day....
when they found we were down there reppin' area code 207, most people thought we were fuckin nuts which the more i think about it....yea i was.
so all day was just spent sitting there....watching everyone get what i wanted so damn bad....and most of these people were complaining!!!! "i have to wear this wristband ALL DAY!?!??" "ITS TOO TIGHT!!" damn they pissed me off, considering ALL of you would have been more than greatful to let them tie the bracelet on as tight as possible and wear it for a month for the show. get this.....a few people actually showed up and cancelled! they told the people that "ohhh....i dont thiink i can make it" WHAT THE FUCK? i know a couple people from the board in the DC area, and i was rather pissed that someone just gave this chance up, when they could have gone in.
sooooooooo.... seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours, and my sunburn was getting worse and worse. yet i wasnt gonna give up on this. i checked my voicemail...and i had a mesg from my man "RUBen1off" that bboysdotcom hooked me up. which was weird....so yea, a bunch of shit went down and all of a sudden i am on the guestlist. BUT my man who went down with me was not. which sucked. we hung for a while longer, and eventually the dude who was in charge of wristbands yelled out "YO wheres my man from Maine??" so i hopped up to say hey, and he tells me "Hey dude i gotta talk to you.....i just wanted to let you know, that perseverance pays off..and well....your seeing the beastie boys tonight!" damn. i almost shat myself. i was already going to get myself in, but with the bracelet he out on me, it allowed my friend Mike to get in as well....perfect. i DO realize that i should have asked him to put it on my friends wrist, so that he could have brought another fan in.....and i would have got in with my guest list, i just was too excited to fucking think!! so at 3:30pm, after being on the corner for over 5 and a half hours we took a break for some food.
doors at 6:30, got in line around 5 [i think] with some really nice folks. some radio DJ asked who the kid from Maine was, and interviewd me, then he realized im the same guy that emailed him, and he must have felt like an ass after posting my letter on their site...rain...lightning...more rain....finally doors open.
it was weird...before, when i saw the boys everyone busted ass for a choice spot...here people milled around in the club, bought drinks, hung in the back...to each his/her own. grabbed me a spot dead center in front. this club blew my mind. i wasnt expecting it to be THAT SMALL. place was mad tiny....amazing. anticipation was fucking killing me, 2 hours and they were gonna be rockin out 2 feet away from me. so i thought
"ive got good news and bad news"...when those morons from the station took the stage and said that, i automatically thought the worse. that the show was cancelled and would be made up later on....and well, would have made my drive to DC worthless. at least they said they were on their way...did anyone else notice those JUNKIE bozos called someone a "faggot"? what the fuck was that about? c-mon. so for 3 hours i just kinda zoned out, put up with a bunch of drunk frat boys, a few "loose" woman, and got to meet some really cool fans.
VideoMike...whats up man? glad to meet some real fans!! i wish i would have met more people from the board, but it was great meeting everyone whom was cool to us...and it was cool meeting the people with attitudes, and plenty of them were up in the club.
that big sec. guard Josh holds it down! hes a very nice guy, took care of us during the day and was more than nice to us when he was in the barrier, he let us know that the boys had just shown up...and the photographers came out, and soon....soon....soon they would come out....minutes later the lights dimmed....and the serial wax killer emerged....
the intro was the same he used for the Weenie Roast show, cuttin up Hendrix, tribe called quest...etc. yet it was just a tad better seeing it live, than from on my computer. "ladies and gentlemen....5-4-3-2-1...." and the loop of root down kicks in....and without sounding like too much of a wuss, i tear up and just bug out for the next hour.
set list was amazing as most of you already saw and pointed out, love the matching Star Trek mesh hats...classic. loved the beats Mike was dropping...the sound from his decks kinda sucked. bass was super loud, and the scratching wasnt cutting through the mix as loud as it should have. but hey....im not complaining...
i know a couple people are hatin on the fact i went down and got in. and i guess i understand, but my outlook on it is, if you really want something bad enough, itll work out in the end. the chance to see my fucking idols, in a club, be face to face with them, spit rhymes back and forth within a matter of inches is a chance i dont know i would ever have...and when it came up, i wasnt gonna front and let something keep me from it, and thats the only reason i got in. i didnt take anyones spot, you didnt NOT get in because i did, they just let us in because we earned it. so stop hatin.
anyway...im gonna save everyones eyes and time because i could, and want to go on forever talking about that night.....but im gonna go out and say it was probabaly the most amazing night of my 24 year old life...and im glad i could share it with my best friend Mike, and everyone else in the club.
peace to all y'all and when the tour hits up later in August or whatever....Ill be back in the DC area im sure...and hopefully can hang with more of ya.
oh yea...the camden show last night was dope too!
