I had alot of difficulty getting on the board last night. I couldn't access new posts among others. A screen kept coming up saying an e-mail was sent to aidmin.

this information that is now on by members currently online says

Most users ever online was 762, 06-21-2004 at 04:48 AM.

last night it was 521 or so and

it is now 06-21-2004 at 07:21AM

Was I the only one with a problem? Not enough bandwith to handle the amount of users?

When i was finally able to get in today, and didnt see any explanation, i really thought it was just *me*.
Thanks for letting me know otherwise.

what I can't figure is how the active members grew so much while this happened to me it set a new record... twice for most active members.

are we going to experience this again. cuz we are at like the peak of new users it seems.

is there a possibility of loosing data like our threads in the forums. sure shots is huge + etc... I'd hate to think about the possibility.

The only problem was that there were too many people accessing the server... That in itself should cause no changes to the data present there. It is possibly slightly more likely that some failure would happen on the server, but not likely.

However, I'm sure the bandwidth usage yesterday was through the roof. Hope the boys are getting a good deal :)

There have been/definitely are some issues at the moment. We're working on it, yo.

Well the weekend after release is a huge traffic draw for the site. So it basically came down to too many people trying to access the database, and it was freaking out.

We MAY upgrade the server, but we also anticipate a drop in traffic too, as the months wear on. We'll see what happens.

So sit tight and bear with us.

Thanks!

Aha. Apparently, we were/are getting slammed with traffic from that slashdot trash:
http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/06/20/0034203&mode=thread&tid=141&tid=158&tid=185&tid=188&tid=190&tid=201&tid=99

It has had a bad effect on our server, and so I had to delete the thread. I did save it, and it's posted here:

Do you need to write up Post Mortems everytime the board crashes.

That would be dope, an undetermined number of users were unable to contemplate why an electrician is stuck in persons ass from 2:46 to 3:15 EDT Tuesday, June 28th.

The root cause is under investigation.
