it was a rock concert! all they did was thier rap stuff, i personally like only a very little of their hip-hop. I was very excited about seeing them play, expecting them to whip out thier drums and guitars and play sabotage, no sleep till brooklyn, fight for your right, and others, but no. I rushed off the snack line, sacraficed getting my pretzel and coke to satisfy my needs, to see what was in my opinion, a very dissapointing show.
I then wanted to leave (the strokes suck), when suddenly we were promised a surprise hat would blow our minds.
Then robin comes out....
Announces Jay-Z
I was so pissed off.
I went for rock! i got rock but i was most excited about seeing beastie boys saturday night and i was dissapointed.
The Darkness kick ass :) go ahead make fun of me!

Why would you go to a Beastie Boys show and expect rock?

Yeah, no kidding. Have you even heard the new album? It's instrument-free, just straight hip-hop.

"i personally like only a very little of their hip-hop"
Well that leaves you with not much to like really considering the beastie boys are a .........RAP group.
I heard Jay-z came out after the beasties and did 99 problems.........I would love to see that.

I know beasties are a rap group, but i wasn't going to jones beach expecting to hear 100% rap from them, i expected them to whip out their guitars and drums and play some of their kick-ass rock in their also, which i love dearly.
do you really blame me for expecting them to play songs like sabotage, no sleep till brooklyn, and fight for your right?
I ran off the snack line, as they were about to run out of pretzels for the night, to see them play, and i was so pissed when they left the stage without playing sabotage or any of their songs that include a guitar, thats the part of the beasties i most love.
and, no i don't really like their new album much.
I'm not saying that i liked NONE of the songs they played, they just didnt play what i automatically expected them to.
you cant tell me that the beastie boys dont have some great rock music.
you cant tell me not to expect them to play sabotage or fight for your right

I want to quote you multiple times and give a rebuttal, but I'll stick to this one.
If you knew anything about the Boys, you would've known what to expect from this show. All the sets from this recent mini-promo tour have been hip-hop sets.
Play their instruments? So what did you expect? For them to come on stage, plug in, play Sabotage, Time For Living, Heart Attack man, Tough Guy, and them leave? Even the rare times that they do play No Sleep Till, they use the record.
And to finally use your quote. Some of their Classics? Were you there? Root Rown, Sure Shot, Brass Monkey, So What'cha Want, and Paul Revere were all played and are considered by even the casual fan to be "classics".
I was at the show, and have expressed my opinion on it multiple times on this board. I thought the Boys were great, it was the crowds reaction to them that sucked.
Oh and the darkness would be good... If it was 1987.

LMAO @ this thread.
Especially the Darkness would be good if this was 1987.
I couldn't agree more.
And to the thread starter:
I feel ya on wanting to hear the live instrument stuff. But, Sabotage, Fight for your right? Dude!! How about SABROSA! Time for Livin! Lighten Up! NAMASTE!!!! If I were to go to a show right now, unaware of the current direction the Boys are heading, I would be hoping for those songs WAY more than the ones you mentioned. However, WHEN I DO GET TO SEE THE BOYS THIS SUMMER IN ST. LOUIS (hint hint, somebody PLEASE make that happen), I will go expecting a full on hip hop show. If an instrument or two get whipped out, BONUS.
Not liking the new album should be grounds for a beating, IMO. That sh*t is the stuffin in the muffin boiiieeeeee.

One of my girlfriend's friends went to the show and said it kicked all kinds of ass. Apparently she got to go backstage too for some reason. I would've slapped my momma to go to the show. Be grateful you got to see the boys.

The concert venue sucked, the Beasties did their best, but for a crowd sober than a judge sitting out in the sun drinking nothing but coke on a sugar high, people were pissed off, there were kids every where (read 12-15 age), who sat down on the stadium seats and made zero noise. Not only did the Beasties say “what’s up with you guys” as did the lead singer from the Darkens, who looked out over the audience and said “this venues shit isn’t it” No one danced no one knew the words (as they weren’t born), security was tighter than a nats chaff, you could move or spit with out some twat giving you grief.
And who the hell goes to a rock concert with NO BEER. You weren’t even allowed to smoke a cigarette in the stadium; I mean this is a ROCK concert! The Beasties finished and everyone left before the headline act. What a mess.
Am I the only one who thought this?

A concert without beer is about as scary a prospect as I could imagine.. and in New York. I don't want to start the whole left coast right coast thing here but I will say that I saw the show in San Francisco (well Mountain View) and it was great and there was plenty of beer to be had (for $8). So for the upcoming tour I suggest all the east coasters cruise out to left coast where (Thank God) we don't have to put up with as tight of security. All of us on the left coast could never imagine what you guys have all been through in the last few years, just know this.. We are trying hard to keep it real out here, and although the Bboys are from NY we love them out here too, and would love to have you join us at a show!
See you at the show (whenever, and wherever they end up playing)

Nope. No crowd surfing, all he did that night was suck.
Yeah Jones Beach is a horrible place to see a show. I don't think they ever sell beer at any of their shows. When they come back around and play MSG and/or the Nassau Coliseum, that's when the real fun happens.

Jones Beach is a State Park so they're never going to sell any beer. Jones Beach is a better venue than Nassau and MSG. The acoustics are horrible in those arenas.

I wouldnt have minded one bit if they played those songs without the instruments, I would be satisfied either way. And i might be exagerating a little bit on the entire show sucking, i did sing along to quite a few songs and dance around a little, but the crowd sucked(to the point where i almost felt stupid to even have a partially good time!) and sitting in the top section didnt help much.
Jones beach should seriously try to get some GA for their harder-type concerts, like set something up so people dont get thrown into the water(set up a barrier far from the water or just put some type of walls their) and put down seats for the softer concerts where its a pretty bad chance they'd be thrown around. Their new 2nd stage thing kicks ass
I recently purchased ozzfest tickets for the orchestra section, i would so much rather it be GA for that, im sure something will go down their, a few years ago i saw the folding chair sections fall apart, chairs bein thrown around and turning into a mosh pit.
another thing is the bands basically HAVE TO BE DONE BY 11:30, resulting in some quick sets, bringing down the quality of the festivals(beastie boys seemed kinda quick too, or maybe im crazy) Is a kerfew common at a lot of venues? I wouldn't know. help meee
perhaps randalls island would be better? i've never been their though.

A concert's just not a concert without a pretzel.
I doubt I'll ever see the Beasties (or any other good big-name bands) again simply for the fact that I refuse to go to large venues to see them. Ticket prices are ludicrously high, the crowds usually ALWAYS suck, and unless you spend hundreds of dollars for a ticket, you're usually seated (that is, if you get a seat at all - long live the 'lawn' section! ) a half-mile away from the stage anyway.
Don't even get me started on Shoreline Amphitheater, either. Last time I was there, there was a fucking ESPRESSO BAR. What the hell does going to see a show have to do with espresso? That's the problem with most large-scale venues - they're all being turned into freakin' Disneyland so that the old fucks that can afford to go to them won't have to be reminded that they're not in their living rooms anymore.

I was at the Jones Beach show, and it wasn't that bad. First of all, any show at Jones Beach is bound to suck a little because it's a horrible venue. The crowd was also the same frat boys from 10 years ago who were expecting the Boys to play "Fight For Your Right" (though they did play "Brass Monkey" and had a 'sing along' to "Paul Revere"). No one really appreciated them as far as I could tell. However, they gave the ill performance, "So Watcha Want" never sounded better.
And for the record, the Darkness made me want to die. Over and over and over and over again. So did most of the other bands that day.

I saw the show the ight before in Camden. Basically the same line up. Beasties were great. But to agree with Maestro, The Darkness made me want to die over and over and over again. There performance sounded like 45 minutes of whining, not to mention that he is an exact Freddy Mercury wanna-be.

Jay Z.
AWESOME.
And listen to the Grey Album if you haven't heard it already. Amazing.
As for the concert, I was really impressed when the high schoolers sitting in front of us stood up and sang along. Plus I was giddy since I've been waiting for this since the Hello Nasty tour got cancelled due to a bike accident....
