I thought Yauch was vegetarian being Buddist and all. I know some vegetarians eat fish and still call themselves vegetarians but "arroz con pollo" is spanish for rice with chicken. But either way the man can eat what whatever he wants.

Wouldn't that defeat being a Vegetarian?

Well, he must be a pseudo-vegetarian. They are the only kind of vegetarian people who eat chicken or fish.

The only member of the band who is flat out vegetarian is Mike, I'm pretty sure. He's the only one who's come out and said it, anyways. I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that Yauch is a vegan, it seems people just assume because he once studied Buddhism that he's now a vegan as well, which is weird...

Went there today.....
First There was no Arroz con Pollo......(usually its together as a Dish)
so I ate their Rice and a Chicken Breast........
To Yauch, I guess I'm Crazy cause, I've had Better on Long Island....
Plus They only sell Fried fish on Fridays......
I dont Judge resturants by there appearence......but by their food...
and I'm not crazy about West Side Coffee shop....
It was like a Soul food, hidden Food Joint.....I've had the same dish
in Freeport.....(Four towns Over from me)
And I use to Hang out Down by hudson St......at the WetLands..(god I miss
that Place) but have no clue where that Kinish place is?
So My review for others is
the Food wasent great........They probably use to eat their when there
studio was around Canal Street.....But at least It gave me a chance
to Walk down Hudson and see The old spot of the Wetlands......
1-10 I give it a 6 but if I lived downtown I might go there
Once and a while.....but its not as good as yauch made it sound
Then again I didn't eat the Fried Fish??? So Someone else
go on FRi and Tell me how it was.....

Maybe the arroz con pollo is also a Friday special? You know, because he could've easily just said "Get the Rice and Chicken". Arroz con pollo is in fact rice with chicken, but Spanish style (y) Taste totally different than your ordinary rice with chicken.

there said that they didnt have Arroz con pollo.....(they
got different special every day but no Arroz con Pollo......)
I've had Good Arroz con pollo at a spanish resturant in "the getto"
or what MY spoiled ass calles the getto....and it was some
serious ethnic food...I only ordered chicken cause Me encanta
pollo y biftec.... yo soy (?como se dice? Carnavore?)

You're right from all the interviews I've read over the years Mike is the only one who from his own mouth has claimed to be vegan. But the only reason I thought Yauch would be vegan or vegetarian( no animal flesh) was because if he claims to be a Buddist then that would mean he would be vegetarian in the true sense. There's a person at work who follows Buddism and he tells me Buddists will not eat any animal flesh, dairy products, eggs, etc. I mean they won't even kill a fly, mosquito or an insect that's crawling around the house because they honor all forms of life. I'm just curious does anyone know if Yauch still follows Buddism I haven't really heard him say much about it in the press this time around?

I think Yonah Schimmel is actually on Houston St. It's a few doors down from Katz's Deli.

Also, I'm very surprised that Yauch's not a vegetarian. Maybe he's backed off his strict Buddhist stance of a few years ago.

Run of the mill Buddhists eat meat and stuff. Buddhist monks do not. Their justification for eating meat is that when you buy it at the store, it wasn't killed and prepared just for you. The animal whose body part is in the package is dead whether you buy it or not, so by buying it you aren't harming the animal. The argument can be made that you are creating a demand for more animals to be killed, but I don't know man. So I've heard.
Oh and actually Buddhist monks have to eat meat if someone offers them some when they are begging for food. Because if they don't accept it graciously, they would be harming the person who offered them the meat.
