ok, your right, ill look into him.. my bad, its just i was hoping for Cypress or someone else really, ive never heard of Talib Kweli, sounds like he is a member of the Talibans...
Hey don't be knocking on his name! He's Islamic and the best rapper (that's right I said it)! He is famous for the people who like smart hip hop. He does some good social commentary. All those other lil more exposed rappers (just listen to Jay-Z's song "Moment of Clarity" with the line lyrically be like Talib Kweli) respect him a lot. He has a a lil side project with Mos Def called Blackstar (you should check that out too). I hope he opens in Detroit I rather have him then any of those other fools.

Talib Kweli is an absolute fiend on the mic. Black Star is fantastic, and you should totally check that out. Fantastic, intelligent hip hop.

can u please name some good tracks i should download
"Get By" is his most known single. I like "The Proud," "Good To You," "Guerrilla Moonsoon Rap," "Eternalists," and "Ghetto Afterlife." Both of his cds are filled with good stuff but I'm more partial to Quality rather than Reflection Eternal. He's been a guest on a lot of other rappers stuff too (like Kanye and The Roots). He was also a musical guest on Chappelle's Show (which in my opinion has the best musical hip-hop acts ever!).

'Talib Kweli' means student of the truth. It really isn't his fault if the taliban chose their name from the same source word where he got his name. He had this name since well before anyone had even heard of the Taliban.

Talib Kweli is the man, son. Yeah he's been around for a while, but he isn't a household name... yet.
His new album "The Beautiful Struggle" is probably going to be his best and biggest release yet.
Yes, Jay-Z gave him props on the song "moment of Clarity" (while also admitting to be a sellout) ... heres the exact quote:
"If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli"
Blackstar with Mos Def was more than a side project, it was where it all started. -their 1998 release was probably the best conscious hip hop album of the late 90's. And a reunion should happen soon. According to Talib it will happen again when the 'time is right'.
Anyway, next rapper on your list to research:
John Reuben
and don't forget to mention his project as a member of reflection eternal with talib kweli and dj hi-tek. their 2000 year release train of thought is definitely one strong album and in my opinion kweli's best work so far with the exception of blackstar with mos def in 1998.
just go to www.allmusic.com for info on his shit.

Talib is definitely one of the greatest rappers currently out there. Allmusic.com is a kick ass site too. I spend days at a time on there.

1. Beastie Boys / Cypress tour would be OFF THE FUCKIN' HOOK (almost as good as Beastie / Rage tour) but Talib is sick anyways.
2. The Taliban comment is about as american as it gets (i g n o r a n t)

do not listen to anyone who tells you that 'quality' is better than 'train of thought'. 'quality' was anything but, a huge let-down, shit compared to the first. not only are the beats very lackluster, so is his style on it, he took a turn for the worse. makes you wonder how important hi-tek is.
(JohnReubenfan, good shit, he's from around my way (y) )

(JohnReubenfan, good shit, he's from around my way (y) )that's not true. i like train of thought more. but quality was awesome in another way. it had another tempo. it wasn't at all the same deal, but it still had the very same high-standard. the proud, good to you, won't you stay, where do we go, joy etc are all classic tracks. his lyrical skills are the same if not better shown on quality.

i just don't this he's as smooth as he used to be. he rhymes a lot faster and tries to shove as many things into tracks as possible. i still like him, and he's dope live in a small setting, i'd just like for him to hook back up with hi-tek.

but yeah. nuthin' beats african dream, touch you, too late, the blast, fortified live etc etc.

This morning, I woke up
Feeling brand new and I jumped up
Feeling my highs, and my lows
In my soul, and my goals
Just to stop smokin, and stop drinkin
And I've been thinkin - I've got my reasons
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
(ba ba ba, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da badahh
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by by by by by by)
(ba ba ba, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da bada, ba da badahh
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by by by by by by)
... Inspirational genius
