While I enjoy the depressing music that's been all the talk lately...I'd like to know what puts you in a good mood (regardless off how much you hate to admit liking it).

Some of these are embarassing but...

Brown-Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Just What I needed - The Cars
Kick Out the Jams - The MC5
All Down - The Rolling Stones
Train in Vain - The Clash...any Clash, really
Destroyer - The Kinks
Escape (aka The Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes
No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley
Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundations
Don't Walk Away Eileen - Sam Roberts
Santeria - Sublime
It's Tricky - Run DMC
Flake - Jack Johnson
Here Comes My Baby - Cat Stevens
Tiny Spark - Brendan Benson
Naturals Not In It - Gang Of Four
Don't Believe Thr Hype - Public Enemy
Jeepster - T Rex

I was wrong...quite a few of these are embarassing. Oh well. You shouldn't suppress happy feelings. (y)

Yeah, I DL'd that, I've heard about 3 songs from that album already, it sounds wicked.

I love this song, it's not on my happy-list, as I need a memory to associate it with, see. It's on my good-list now though.

Cheers.

Dammit, roosta is going to slay me for not putting that on my list first, he loves the song as much as I do. Yeah anyway, springy tune...type thing. Anyway, I recommend this one, an absolute gem, very upbeat.

Indeed, Sunday Morning is about regret, (as far as I understand), but I sure as hell don't feel regretful listening to it. After listening to it, I feel as if I was blessed by Jesus. Almost as if I forget my regrets.

and yeah, No Woman No Cry is an elegy. but i wasn't gonna post songs that are full of energy and life, but songs that make me feel... happy.

Never saw this thread before. A good topic. I'm weirdly depressed today. Easter and not even a call from my parents, I had to call them. They only live two houses away, wtf?

I've mentioned this a billion trillion times, but Shake Your Tail Feather is one of my favorite happy songs. Somehow it got erased from my computer though and now I can't find it :(

Other than that -

Video Killed the Radio Star - the Buggles
My Baby Takes the Mornin Train - Sheena Easton (christ she sounds awful when she sings in a falsetto, it rules)
My Girl Likes to Party All the Time - Eddie Murphy (yeah...that's right...fuck you)
Not Your Stepping Stone - The Monkees
Hey Mickey - whoever that girl group is that redid it for "Bring it On"
Kiss - Prince
Pretty much any Neil Diamond song that I can sing along to
Signed Sealed Delivered - Stevie Wonder
Working For the Weekend - LoverBoy

and of course - the Ghostbusters theme song

and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song

The Clash - "Wrong 'Em Boyo"
Faith No More - "Epic"
The Dismemberment Plan - "What Do You Want Me To Say?"
Feable Weiner - "San Deem Us Ready"
The Fiery Furnaces - "Tropical-Iceland"
The Dwarves - "Better Be Women"

The Exploding Hearts manage to put me in a good mood... but of course the tragedy that befell that band makes that album too much of a wistful experience to be included in this list.

A lot of third wave ska (Pietasters, Mustard Plug, the Toasters and the Scofflaws come to mind) has a good effect on me, too.

^^ nice list (I mean the English-language ones--I'll take your word on the others). I'm embarrassed I don't know the Soul Asylum one because they're local. I've thought of them a couple of times lately for strange reasons. Hmm.

P.S. Jackie Wilson Said, by Van Morrison, is one of the happiest songs ever.

Lindsey Buckingham. :) I can't think how or why, but I must have that on vinyl. Maybe a 45.

Go-Gos - Vacation too. I am sorting through my old stuff.

i think every brown-eyed girl has that song on their list. the first time i heard it was about 10 years ago, when my best friend (then AND now), said "this is your song, from me to you!" and she put it on a mix tape for me <3.

also:
nina simone - i put a spell on you
o-zone - numa numa
the pretenders - brass in pocket
beastie boys - get it together (totally because of the memories of someone actually singing it to me. that's priceless.)
beastie boys- the maestro
brazilian girls - pussy
christina aguilera - dirrty :o
david bowie - space oddity (i know the song is sad, but it just lifts my spirits to listen to it)
jlo - play
pixies - monkey gone to heaven
yo vendo unos ojos negros (old spanish song)
oh and the happiest remix of triple trouble i've ever heard... tpk's. seriously, every person that's heard that in my room starts smiling, even if they dont like the beasties.

there are so many more but i can only think of these right now cause they're on the current "happy" playlist. i make new ones all the time.
