"The band would perform three concerts in New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. to raise money for the Milarepa Fund and would dedicate royalties for "Shambala" and "Bodhisattva Vow" from the Ill Communication album. The Milarepa Fund aims to raise awareness of Tibetan human rights issues and the exile of the Dalai Lama. In 1996, Yauch would organise the Tibetan Freedom Concert, a two-day festival at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco attracting 100,000 people. The Tibetan Freedom Concert in 1997 was held at Randall's Island in New York, New York."

US$1.00 per ticket goes two these two organizations. $.50 to Milarepa and $.50 to a local animal rescue organization.
so at least that's something.
Yeah...its included as a donation on the ticket price...So I don't think you need to worry too much about the charity thing.
The Beasties are true to the causes they support.
Word.

... I do worry. If that is all they are doing as a response to the dire situation of cultural genocide, then no it is NOT enough.
I understand that their publicists probably tell them not to mix Tibetan politics with their new album- but they should raise a helluva lot more awareness with their tour. 50 cents?
Or perhaps they think that they've done their share and fall back into recidivism. Or that someone else will take up the cause. Or maybe Kerry will do something when he gets into office. Or maybe they just don't want to disenchant the new fanbase.

Or maybe because this is their career, and they don't want to throw every penny at Tibet?

.50 per ticket adds up when you play huge venues like the beasties. quitcerbitchin.

yeah dude, that's the smae reason that the Irs will freek if you miss a penny on your taxes, and end up wasting wayyy more than a penny hounding you to pay that penny.
In the long and massive run, if everyone skips a penny on their taxes, that is some odd million bucks that aren't available for a new shiny tank. Or education if they have any money left lying around.

Just so that there is no misunderstanding, it is not the money aspect that I am saddened about. It is that there is no mass Tibetan awareness campaign attached to the tour. Which ultimately is more important then the 50 cents.
The music will always be there.
For example, how about a Tibet Aid tour? Dig?
