the gwinnett arena is right up on I-85. Take the sugarloaf exit. it's hard to miss it.

here (http://media.ticketmaster.com/en-us/tmimages/venue/maps/atl/3691s.gif) is the general seating layout.

there is no bad seat in the house. trust me. There are no nosebleed seats.

and here are some directions (http://www.ticketmaster.com/venueinfo/115298) for people who dont know where it is.

and here is when they open doors and such. for people who dont know.

Question about the Gwinnett Arena: I have a choice between seats in section 100 and section 117 - which should be better?

117 is closer to the stage. so i would pick that. 100 is at the other end of the arena.

i guess the arena is pretty new, so i've never been there. don't know the surrounding area at all.

i'm an atlanta native but we're talking about duluth - totally OTP! that's a 30 minute drive into another world.

i'll ask around to see if there are any nearby landmarks.

I'm as die-hard as they come and all I wanted was to go to the show, but ALL possible buddies backed out and now I'm left begging my anti-Beastie fiancee to come with... Saw em in '98 at Lakewood, but now it looks like that's gonna be all.

Wish I could join you folks at Gwinett, even it is way OTP. Daaaaaamn...

the floor seats are only for GA ticket holders, although you can usually find an usher to slip a $20 to to get down on the floor.

i gots mine. gonna be chillin' at the holidae inn for a pre-party.

ohh, yeah...

here's a little info about the arena...i saw a kid rock show there about a year ago, and there was very light security getting in-no pat downs-but there are ushers everywhere, not the dancing kind either! i didn't even take the chance of smoking my joints, but i was feeling good anyway.

great venue, really no bad seats at all, but i'ma gonna be in the front row.

I think it's SRO. The arena is very tight and they could probably get more people in on the floor without chairs! I had tickets to the Rage show and was so excited, 7 mos preggy and all. Someone keep those guys off their bikes!

Thought I was the oldest at the 98 show at Lakewood but loved every second of it!

Can't wait to see them!

I HAVE TWO TICKETS IN SECTION 120 ROW D LOOKING TO SELL AT FACE VALUE $97.50. LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE'S INTERESTED. TRULY NOT A BAD SEAT IN THE PLACE!

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why are you planning on going to the show so early? I had the time the doors open (6:00 or 6:30?) as my target. Is it because of the general admission situation on the floor? I'm in reserved seating so is there a reason for me to camp out?

I say roll one for before and another one to use during if the opportunity presents itself. There was very heavy blazing where I sat at their last show at Lakewood. But that could change with the venue and seating.

mind letting a couple atl friends in to the party? ;)

that's what i've been saying, not a bad seat in the house. Think you can sneak us to the floor? :p

Were you able to sneak to the floor? Looked very hard. After a show at the Omni in Atlanta where security lost it big time to people trying to get from seats to the floor once the show started. Cops and security got involved and they were fighting a losing battle. Now they employ the armbands and a lot more security around the perimeter of the GA floor.

Atlanta
10-16-2004, 12:41 AM
Atlanta review:

First some background. I have seen the Bboys every time they have been to Atlanta. Clubs (center stage), Georgia State, Philips arena, Omni, etc. I have also traveled to different states at least 5-6 times to see them over the past 10 years. Every show, until tonight, I found it very hard to stay up front center for an entire show due to all of the energy up front (esp. when Henry Rollins opened for them one time around so you were already dead from him playing before the boys came on). Simply put, everyone up front was into it so much that you either were a part of that or got the hell out of the front.

I was excited to experience the Gwinnett arena for the first time. Nothing until now has made we want to go there. After tonight I will never go back.

For those that are not from Atlanta, the Gwinnett arena is in the subburbs and not in downtown Atlanta. No mass transit to the show - only a long car ride from the city.

One parking lot for the venue, no matter how large it is, or free, just does not work. Give me paid parking around Philips arena anytime. Also give me the option of using Marta or if I need to - can't do that with Gwinnett.

The sound up front and center was horrible. It appeared they had no sound in the middle. In all fairness I had friends who were further back in seats who said the sound was awesome from the back/sides but even Cypress Hill a few months ago had great sound (outside) for the front/center people.

Security was way to strict up front. Anyone who tried to get a little physical up front or crowd surf was hunted down and thrown out ASAP. Any area of the crowd up front that got a little too into the music resulted in a security guard being placed in that area of the crowd until everyone toned it down.

To add injury to that, you had "fans" up front (first few rows of people, so very close) who were actually ratting out other people trying to have a good time by pointing them out to security. Unreal and the first time I have seen that happen so much at any show like that. The majority of people up front were acting like they were at a Barbara Streisand concert and just standing there. They might as well have put down chairs on the floor.

I don't know if this sedate crowd was due to the fact the venue was in the burbs - logic being you automatically exclude a lot of crazier people who would normally take Marta or walk to the show. Or if the hard security was keeping everything calm and sedate - but after seeing the Bboys at least 15 times it was the most sedate show of theirs ever. Usually security is tight in the beginning but the crowd up front takes over - but it never happened tonight. Or, maybe the fans are getting old but it was mostly kids under 30 up front so I don't think that was it.

For God's sake someone had a 4 year old on their shoulders on the left of stage front row the entire show (crowd's left). I bs you not. Any of you up front had to see this.

Now that is not to say the place was not packed and loud. In fact they said this was one of their best stops and from their point of view maybe they were being serious. But I ask you how could Atlanta be better than two back to back nights at MSG a week earlier? But, hey, I was not at the NYC shows so I don't know. I am sure someone on here can comment. A lot of people dressed up in bboy garb and the crowd as a whole was packed and loud.

Anyway, I give it a 0 out of 10. Very disappointing for a real bboy fan.
