Understandable since you're so oily. You'd probably start to leave a slick everywhere you go.

Dude in the straw hat was the childcare coordinator. A really good beatboxer also, he was part of building the sound tapestry I was breakin to last year at Opus.

The kids are the three kids I got to drive from Pittsburgh to New Mexico with and back. Quite the harrowing adventure. The construction paper creations they're holding were awards they created for people that were helpful with childcare. The one that the kid on the left's holding is about to be presented to me and is now hanging on my fridge.

yay me.

This picture was taken about 30 seconds too soon to have me in it. I ended up giving a backrub to the young lady standing on the picnic table. Then another young lady came and started giving a hand massage to the young woman down in front and the massage train became bidirectional and ranged all over the place and lasted for quite a while.

I wouldn't mind being back in it myself. The cool thing about it is that shit like that just breaks out spontaneously. Then I get back from Opus and have to remind myself that when I see an attractive woman on the street it's no longer appropriate to ask her if I can rub her back.

And no one is wearing any invitations that say it's okay to just rub them without asking.

Oh well. Only 50 weeks to go until the next Opus.

Guy on the left is Christopher. A really good poet. We walked and talked about poetry and started exchanging lyrics and were both really impressed with what was coming from the other.

This mass of humanity is the CoffeeHouse audience. I maintain that audiences enjoy shows much more when they're all snuggled together.

I was going to read one of my "angry" poems about how everybody isn't doing enough to fix things. Instead I decided to read something more personal.

Child
Alex Mead (Jan.19.2003)

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
A long, long way from home
She sang those words and I cried
Not a lot, just a little
But I had been wanting to cry for a long while
Needing to cry
The tear barrier finally broke
My mother died on August 19th, 2001
My first life ended and my second life
has still not begun
I was just down the block from where I live
but I am a long, long way from home wherever I go
I once wrote in a poem
"There are two kinds of people in this world
people whose mothers have died and
people whose mothers are still alive"
I still feel that way sometimes
Like the motherless child
But that wasn't enough to make me cry
I always feel like that
I'm used to it
This morning I cried because I am a childless father
A long, long way from home

These young folks had the unenviable task of keeping all of us fed. Veggies, Vegans and Carnivores alike, and they did really well. Easy for me to appreciate any food a'tall, having no gas in my house for so long and such. But I can say with confidence that the food was so good I'd have enjoyed it no matter what.

The morning when my touch group had lunch prep I brough to the 5 Buroughs in and played it for everyone. They liked it a lot. The young lady on the left there asked "Did that guy just say 'I'm a funky ass Jew and I want my way?'"

:)

The dude on the right is a Spearhead fan. I played Everyone Deserves Music right after 2t5b. I think I converted a lot of people there into Spearhead fans. Not so sure about the Beasties.

Not sure what the deal is with all the knitting that goes on at Opus. Seems pretty weird.

This young woman tried a couple times to inform me that I was attractive. I have a hard time accepting that from women, I have a real negative body image and all. Plus she was complimenting me on my picture in the mug book which happens to be hideous.

Ah well.

I have to believe that a lot of sex goes on there (y)

Unfortunately not for me (n)

But Heather and I have done a lot of showering together at the last two Opuses. She makes a very lovely wet naked person. (y)

Last year when we got back from Opus we went at it quite a bit. This year after Opus we went back to our respective states. (sad)

There are free condoms everywhere at Opus (yay)

I got a lot closer to having sex this year than last year. Maybe next year. *one shoulder shoulder shrug*

Was that girl Jessica the Childcare goddess from your book there this year? Judging from the pic in your book, she was all that and a bag of ChipsAhoy.

Thanks folxs.

Sadly, Jessica the childcare goddess did not attend this Opus. She has just gotten a new job. I did get to read the parts about Orelia to her and Jessica has read the parts about her long ago.

BUT, I had bought plane tickets to Opus and then went by van instead of plane. My tickets were non-refundable but I can use the amount of ticket price toward future air travel. And right now Jessica is requesting that I come down to North Carolina and teach her students how to break dance and I am seriously considering it (hoping it will work out). I missed her a whole lot at Opus this year.
