I know with other bands they have radio, tv contests to win tickets to local shows. I don't know with the Beastie Boys though. It's all about knowing the right people pretty much.

Great post Miramanee. Very informative.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen young women cheapen themselves with lowly crew for a chance to get next to Mr. Rock Star. Ick, ick, ick. Don't do it.
When I worked as security for a hugely overated popstar here in australia, alot of young teenage girls embarrassed themselves trying to get past me and meet their hero. I couldn't have helped them even if I had wanted to. :p
But then again, Beastie Boys fans are cool, and would stay cool under pressure. :D

One further comment... In response to what Freedom Toast posted about using "feminine persuasion" to get backstage: Ladies, listen up! No security or crew person has the authority to get you close to the band (except maybe head of security -- band security, not venue security). I had backstage passes for the Nickelback/ Three Days Grace Tour from a friend.. and in Halifax there were these girls trying to get in.. they were inside the backstage door and the guard wouldn't let them in.. The guards were definitely flirting back with the girls... but would not let them in. Well... atleast they got to hang out with goodlooking security guards for about 10 minutes lol.
Plus, there are different types of backstage passes. Like circle stick on ones.. then the photo ones.. the all different shaped ones.. They all mean something different. Some only get you in the backstage door and through to see the concert on the floor (good nonetheless!!)... and some get you backstage with the band (These pretty much only come from the band, or very high up managers). But, backstage really isn't that cool. The most exciting part of it for me was when a girl got in a fight with another girl... and they got dragged backstage by the guards. hah.. how not very exciting at all.
And I agree with the buying of jewerly.. Can't go wrong with some nice earrings or a bracelet. =)

backstage passes are lame.
even with an all-access pass, you dont really get anywhere unless you are with the band.
