They are now rocking out to some classic Wesern Rock and Roll.

:D
Funny thing is, on NPR they interviewed several students (some were even women) and they all seemed pretty happy about their current situations, and only remotely interested in this new "freedom".
In fact one woman student said, when asked if she was buying the record, "of course I'll buy it if he's Persian." But she didn't seem all that thrilled about it. You would think, in an oppressive regime like Iran where "so many people" are fleeing, female students, especially, would be overjoyed at any sign of change.
Maybe Iranians are OK with their strict rules?

A lot of them probably consider it is useful having civil and religious law one and the same, as staying out of hell becomes as easy as staying out of jail.

You would also think that with such an oppresive regime where women are threatened with their lives for the smallest infractions... like speaking your mind. That they would be too scared to tell their real feelings...

I think the Iraqi's were too, to an extent.

Well in the U.S. most people seem to be perfectly happy with governmental control over their finances and their personal lives.

No. But we are allowed to say how we feel about the way the govt is... without getting murdered.

Even that right is contested.

The woman being interviewed was a student first of all. (Not very oppressive sounding to me)
You are making assumptions and missing my point.
Every person they interviewed said basically the same thing. They weren't interested in "Western Music" but if Freddy Mercury was Persian, they would give it a listen.
They were in no way excited about the opprotunity to listen to this music.
I realize this was just a small section of the population, so I'm not trying to say that ALL Iranians love "oppression", but I was posing a question of, "Is it possible that MOST Iranians are perfectly happy being "oppressed"?
Because that is what I got from the interviews I heard.
I mean, do you honestly think that woman, or any of the other people being inteviewed, would have been tortured or killed for simply being excited about the opportunity to listen to Western Music?

It is a nerfarious Arab scheme. They say that they are now allowed to listen to Queen, and then jump on anyone who does going "aha, you fell for our cunning plan, recidivist!"

Indeed, which is why Americans shouldn't be allowed to choose their President. Look at the fiasco they allowed to happen last time.

Actually I'm aware that Iran is Persian, not Arabic. However, most Westerners aren't aware of the distinction (take Alan Jackson's song "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning": "I don't know the difference between Iran and Iraq").

I think I might just call them Carpet-Pilots. While still offensive, at least I insult them all equally.
