I just got an email for MCforKerry, a group I belong to. If anyone else feels strongly about this, I urge you to call in. Even if you don't live in MD.
We are forwarding to you an announcement that Sean Hannity is going to be broadcasting his pernicious brand of reactionary speech today (Friday August 27, 2004) from the Maryland State Fair in Timonium.
We are demanding fair access to at the fair to respond to Hannity unfair and unbalanced presentation. Please call the fair organizers at the number below to let them know how upset you are that what should be a non-partisan event the state fair has been turned over to the one of the most irresponsible members of the Republican media attack machine. We will keep you updated as events progress. Thank you for your assistance.
Please call Rich Kohles at: 410-561-7323 to let him know what you think about this. Here is the new version of Rush Limbaugh (with better hair) inviting himself to spew his right-wing hatred and sell his book at the fair!
What happened to the rules about no partisan politics at the fair?
Here is a link to just 15 of his lies: http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=91585
I'm mad. Not just because they're allowing politics in a non-partisan event, but because they're letting this fucking nutjob brainwash people at this public event.

I don't know who Sean Hannity is exactly, but I joined his messageboard to try and debate with some of the morons there. I was just thinking how in the picture at the top left of Hannity.com he has the smuggest most punchable face I have ever seen. I can only imagine the damage done to Monitors around the world when people visit that site.(Edit: sorry)

Why did they have to demand access. Wasn't it a free event, first come first serve? Did you get to go?
I like the Hannity quotes... Taken out of context in true political form...lol
I love politics! :D
Wonder if we'll ever have any honest politicians.

Poor Sean. :(
He's such an honest guy. It's a shame to see him being dragged throught the mud like this.
I want to cry for him.

Fairs have traditionally been places for politicians to campaign, shake hands, kiss babies, pass out buttons, etc. I have no idea how you got it in your head, (or the person sending this letter to you), that there is a 'rule' about no politicking at the fair.
What does 'demanding fair access to at the fair to respond to Hannity' mean? You can pay admission if you want, or I suppose if you don't like Hannity, don't attend the fair. Just because you don't agree with him, or that he was booked doesn't entitle you to free admission.
If you want a platform to rebut him, you'll probably have to buy it or be asked. He was afterall broadcasting his live radio show, and maybe paid for the privilege.
Sadly, (for you it seems) in the United States, you can't silence people's political voices by complaining about what they say.

This isn't about "politicking". Sean Hannity isn't a politician, he's not there to shake hands and kiss babies. He's a commentator, one who spews hatred from the right wing. This is about being non-partisan at the fair. Yeah, there are always democrat and republican booths at the fair, however, they're giving him 3 hours of broadcast time and nothing to the democrats. It's supposed to be non-partisan, and they're supporting the Republicans and letting this nutjob take over the fair's airwaves for 3 damn hours. That's not right, and against the rules of the fair.
And they wanted free access to stage a protest. Everyone has the right to protest what they don't like, and if they're going for the sole purpose of doing so and not actually just getting free access to the fair, then who the hell cares. And if you're dead set against him, go ahead and protest him to his face, by just sitting at home and refusing to go doesn't give any kind of message.
And the point isn't to silence him. The point was to show support for Kerry, and protesting the fact that he was there. If you have 50 people outside of his broadcasting area wearing Kerry tee-shirt who are protesting him, it may not silence him, but it gives a message to the people at the fair.

Naw, they charge something like 10 bucks to get into the fair. They demanded access (like I said before) because they were just there to protest him, nothing more. I didn't get to go because Timonium is near Baltimore, I'm near DC. I did get to call the fair coordinator and give him a piece of my mind though. (y)

So you'd have only gone to the fair if you could get in free, and only because Hannity was there, not because you wanted to specifically campaign for Kerry, just that you oppose the political views of the entertainment? Would you be happy if Michael Moore was host for 3 hours to balance it out?
I think you have very little faith in people to make up their own minds. It is very telling that you think by witnessing 50 people protesting a talk radio show broadcast, or for that matter listening to a 3 hour broadcast, would somehow change a fairgoer's personal politics. Do you really think people are so dim that they need you to be their advocate, to protect them fom ideas, look out for them?
I understand your complaint about being forced to listen, but that would backfire on the organizers if people were that repulsed. My guess is that there were lots of people rolling their eyes and whatnot, but i bet there were probably the same feelings when Sara Evans began singing country music. Should a bunch of Death Metal activists have been allowed free access to protest the infliction of country music on these poor hapless fairgoers?

I was actually trying to figure out if Ace42 was implying that he couldn't make up his own mind and is a hoodwinked American voter, or whether he was a foreign citizen 'concerned about my poor ignorant American ass' an advocate for me as it were.
TheWedge, what does anything you said have to do with anything? Nice, way to derail the debate with a personal attack, way-to-go!

A personal attack?
All I was saying was that in this argument, you looked foolish by asking him what country he was in.
Or were you talking about that other personal attack where I asked you what where he lived had to do with anything?
A personal attack would have been more like this:
Do you have sand in your vagina you moron?

But let me add that, like you said about me above, your comment about where he lived really didn't have anything to do with the topic at hand.

You're damn straight I have little faith in America. If a bunch of liars can come out and say "Kerry is a liar" with no credible evidence, and the poll numbers drop for Kerry, anything is possible. Lying trolls like Hannity should be kept away from impressionable people at all costs, or people from the other side should show more support for their party. It's idiots in this country who don't know or have time that fuck up the vote. They just listen to what they are fed, and don't do research. That's why Bush is ahead in the polls now. Cuz America is full of terrified sheep.
And no, I wouldn't want Michael Moore there. I like his movies, may not agree with everything he says, but do believe that he's trying to do what he think is right. However, he's the left-wing version of Rush Limbaugh. I don't agree with anyone who's too pigheaded to see the other side, or refuses to. I like some sort of medium, someone who has their head on straight and thinks things through and doesn't take the country too far in one direction or another.

And yeah, I would go just to protest Hannity. I campaign for Kerry everywhere, I'm in 3 different organizations for him and plan to join more. They have enough people working the fair booths, so I do what I can other places. But if I hear that they're having a jackass like Hannity at this place, then I would go to the sole purpose of supporting my party and denouncing his lies.
