Can't remember the exact set list, but here's what I remember:

1. Root Down
2. Sure Shot
3. RR, NN
4. Brass Monkey (kickin' the Bass for Miami)
5. Body Movin'
6. Open Letter to NYC
7. Super Disco Breakin
8. 3 Mc's & 1 Dj
9. Triple Trouble
10. Time to Get Ill
11. Ch Check It Out
encore
12. Intergalactic
13. So Whatcha Want

This was a great show!!! De La Soul were really good as well. The crowd loved the Boys, the Boys responded with a lot of energy and just goofin' around quite a bit. Stopping for a moment to talk about all the after parties that were going on, name droppin' stars, including Abe Vagoda. DJ Hurricane was there, hopped up on stage for a minute to say Hello. A lot of fun, no political talk in case anyone is wondering, although Adrock was sporting a "Times Up Bush" t-shirt.

I wish I had consumed a few less cocktails last night so I would be able to supply more details of the phenomenal Lifebeat concert. De La has always been one of the more underrated and underappreciated hip-hop acts, and they tore the roof off of Crobar last night. By the time the Beasties hit the stage, the energy in the South Beach club was electrified.

The Beastie Boys kicked things off with Root Down, and if I'm not mistaken they wrapped up their set with a 2-song encore...concluding with So Whatcha Want? They sounded as tight as ever, had great energy, fed off the crowd well, and MixMasterMike tore it up as always. I saw the Beastie Boys for the first time about 20 years ago and watched them get booed off the stage at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando as they opened for Madonna. I loved them then, and I love them now...and it is so rewarding to see how they can still remain relevant in the music world.

I was surprised that the only celebrity in attendance was Jimmy Fallon (formerly of SNL). With the VMAs in Miami the next night, I thought I would see a crapload of stars in the VIP...but Jimmy was it. He was there by himself, and was extremely approachable and friendly. Even though the Beastie Boys never play Orlando anymore, I can't wait to see them in St. Pete in October. If you were in Miami last night, you just HAD to be feeling that show.

Here's what was posted about the Lifebeat show in the Miami Herald's VMA weblog at http://www.vma-miami.blogspot.com (http://www.vma-miami.blogspot.com/):

Brooklyn in the house

It was all about the '80s at Crobar Saturday night, as the Beastie Boys and De La Soul played the MTV2/Lifebeat concert. That's right, a concert, not a party -- although the Beasties left their instruments at home and let DJ Hurricane provide the beats. He kept the old school fresh by, for instance, ending Brass Monkey with the Pull Up/Culo riddim. The amply amped crowd relished both the old tunes and ones from the Beasties' new album, To the 5 Boroughs. While that CD can be heavy on the politics, the main campaign Saturday was the fight for the right to party. Ad-Rock did wear a "Time's Up Mr. Bush" T-shirt. The boys are middle-aged men, of course, but the springs that seem to be hidden in their sneakers keep them Peter Pan young. At one point, Mike D. made as if to breakdance, then hobbled with his hand on his back like an old man.

The crowd reacted almost as enthusiastically to De La Soul, whose music also sounded untainted by time, albeit mellower. They brought it back to the Native Tongues days with a guest appearance by Dres from Black Sheep. De La have a new album dropping in October. Couldn't we all use a touch of The D.A.I.S.Y. Age?

Umm, the writer has the DJs confused, I think.

I gotta have more detail about the show -- like the stuff about Mike almost breakdancing. You know, the fun shit. SR Cranks, please more details?
