Here's the dealio. State sales tax is charge based on the state the order is being shipped to. So for California for instance, that's the Califorinian state sales tax. Then shipping charges. These are uniform, based on the order amount and are as follows (both international and domestic orders):

Purchase Amount - Shipping Cost
$.01 - $9.99 = $5.99
$10.00 - $49.99 = $8.99
$50.00 - $99.99 = $12.99
$100.00 - $199.99 = $16.99
$200.00 and over = $24.99

So for a t-shirt, that's the cost of the shirt plus $8.99 and any applicable state taxes.
