So what's the gos? does anyone have anything to say about the rumours going around the BB are going headline Big Day Out 2005 in Australia? Or are the organisers going to get some ghetto ass band to headline again?

dont wanna be getting my hopes up for nothing

Old Noogan

I thought i should share this with fellow australians, The Footy Show was just on tv and some old-guys band was playing and then, out of nowhere came "She thinks shes the passionate one" , lyrics in the song!. that was unexpected.

first round of announcements should be in a couple of weeks

alot more sources have been telling me beasties are going headline instead of acdc. You know how pissed i'd be if acdc headlined instead of beasties? i reckon about 40000 in qld would agree with me too.

I've also heard Slipknot are coming, hopefully they'll do like the same slots as deftones did in 2003 and SOAD did in 2002. Craziness in the middle of the fucking hot day! BEST (y)

it's looking more and more like the beastie's will be at the 2005 BDO.. the european dates just announced take them through december and the BDO starts jan 21 so the timing is looking about right. the BDO lineup is due out sometime this month. here's hoping (y)

hopefully they'll still do sideshows though (y)

yeah, i've spoken to people who know people (haha) in the industry and they seem like a cert.
i guess i'd pay just to see them at BDO, but i'd think they'd do a sideshow because they'd make lots of $$$.
hopefully they don the sea gear and hit us with a quasar harbour cruise/show again, i missed it last time!

minton
09-25-2004, 09:15 PM
They'll be in NZ and Australia early (towards the end of Jan/start of Feb) 2005, right after Japan *hint hint*. Info regarding the rest of the tour beyond Europe in December will hit the site as soon as we're allowed to, though. So sit tight for a little longer.

On a website called
www.ticket-place.com.au
under the rumors section it has AC/DC rumored to be part of the Big Day Out

and then

Beastie Boys to be part of the big day out!!!

The Big Day Out gets announced October 4th and its on Wednesday 26th Jan in Sydney!!!!!

Can't wait!!!

I think they're the headlining act, yep.

Not sure about the presales on Australian shows just yet. They haven't announced the details of what they'll do so far, I'm just giving you all a heads up on the plan. I'll keep you all posted with what I can though, ASAP.

They will headline unless somebody much more popular comes, only contenders that could beat the beastie boys out for headlining spot are AC/DC (still unannounced). Other rumoured acts aren't big enough:
AFI (not likely now davey havok has busted his voice)
nofx (not popular enough)
rancid (ditto)
Ash (not good enough :p )
franz ferdinand (too new)
The Pixies (too old school and alternative, and doubtful anyway)

i hope the crowd appreciates them, im guessing there will be heaps of people who only know a couple of songs

I hope the beastie boys dont just play their popular stuff to please the non fan crowd, this is an alternative festival so bring on pauls boutique!!!!

If ACDC played it would be pretty funny seeing them back to back with beasties.
The young bros were anti sampling and didn't aprove of the beasties sampling "back in black" on thier song "Rock Hard"

How cool would it be if they made up for it by playing it live with the beasties.

This is somewhat unlikely but it's a nice fantansy to have right now  :o ;)

So is there any likelihood of a Perth sideshow? Maybe at least Mixmaster playing a club gig like he did in 99..Just don't wanna deal with all the clowns at BDO(ideally, I mean, of course I'll go anyway just to see the Boys, I'm just adept at being a fuck...)

Rancid_Beasties
10-07-2004, 02:24 AM
I would like to see AC/DC play the guitar parts for the beastie boys rock songs, so they actually do them instead of just the hip hop songs. Or like Angus Young lending Adrock his gibson sg to play... because i heard they're not taking guitars on tour...but thats just the fact i like rock more than hip hop in most cases.

But seriously, AC/DC will either play last or where the hoodoo gurus played last year, like 3rd or 4th last.

I really hope the b boys play lots of songs from Pauls Boutique and Hello Nasty, and as few as possible from the new album, even though its good its not gold.

Sweet as...so glad its finally been confirmed! I wrote in the back of my rhyme book once that I would definitely see the Beasties before I die....so as long as I don't die before Australia Day, all will be well!! :D

The BDO is shaping up to be good. Will be awesome to see the Chemical Bros again.. they rocked it in Sydney a few years ago. Also keen for John Butler Trio and the Freestylers.

Glad we've got Minton onside to give us a heads up (nice work, mate) (y)

And I reckon we should make a pact to let each other know about any quasar type action

So no presale info in email/etc. But I'm not surprised since its a festival. Check out http://www.bigdayout.com for details.

I dunno where that guy says they aint bringing instruments got his info :-/ My friend saw the BBoys in Seattle and said it was the best damn show she ever seen (in 15 years of shows). Instruments on two sets i think. I wanna see em play :*(

Lastly, I know we'd all like info on the side gigs. Man I'd be bummed if they plan 45 mins at BDO only. Please please please let us catch the BBoys and Mixmaster Mike in solitary confinement.

P.S. Also, anyone notice Cypress Hill is also touring? Too Cool :)

Awesome, can you also ask if they will please play either hey ladies, shadrach or sounds of science? I never understood why they named the anthology sounds of science but didn't put that track on, after the 1:30 point, it starts kicking arse and i reckon it would go off at bdo. dont worry, ill cheer loud enough to make up for everyone else.

ive been thinking about it, and after 6 of the greatest albums, they could never even go close to satifying their fans at one concert, i wish id old enoguh in the early 90's so that i could have heard most of LTI and PB live.

I still reckon they could satisfy their fans, but they'd have to put their promotion of the new album behind the good songs. Like theres probably 3 songs on the TT5B that i'd wanna hear live (lets face it, its good but its not an absolute classic), while theres 5 on PB, 3 on License to ill, and 5 from hello nasty, and two or three from Ill communication and check your head. Thats a fairly long setlist though, 22 songs so they couldn't do it at bdo but maybe at a separate concert. But since when do bands play what their diehard fans want to hear. I went to an offspring concert and they played 18 songs from 2 of their albums and only 4 from the other 4 or 5 albums, Including their best album.

In any case I've been looking forward to the b boys, more than any other band, since i've been old enough to go to concerts, which was just after their last tour. :D

How long is a Big Day Out set ie, how many songs could they play. This BDO will be my first.

Dunny
10-09-2004, 09:11 PM
generally the headliners set lasts around 90 mins.

and as for the songs from each album, think of how many songs are on the anthology, nearly 40? and then there are heaps of awesome songs that their fans love that werent on sounds of science, so realistically they have nearly 50 odd songs that people would love to see live from the last 20 years. so unless youre like 40 years old, you can never fully appreciate them live. anyway thats a bit D & M. my 2c.

A perfect Beastie Boys set for me would be Half of LTI, Half of PB, 5 songs off TH5B, 5 off Hello Nasty and 2 or 3 off CYH and IC. But that would be a mammoth set.

Still I know they'll never play most of their PB stuff again (with the exception of SYR) but one is free to dream.
