Yeah. Apparently anyone who wants to get tickets has to show photo id, and also they had to do background checks. If I was going to that rally and I was a bush supporter, that would definitely make me rethink my view on him.

I think that would happen with any President now a days, no?
But then again, if those protestors can get into the convention...

Do they have to sign the loyalty oath?

Show a photo id and get a background check OR just show up wearing a pair of chaps, spurs and a cowboy hat. You'll get right in either way.
a background check's not an awful idea for any presidential candidate visit, is it? i mean, there ARE people that want to kill them, you ought to have SOME level of security. i don't know how detailed the background check is, i mean, if they wouldn't let you in because you own a copy of 1984, or you're a registered democrat or something, ok, that's over the line, but if they don't let you in because you have a history of schizophrenia and not taking you're medicine, surely that's not such a huge loss?

If you tell them you're a Democrat, you're not getting in to see Bush speak.
A background check is not necessary either. The SS is there, they're good at their job.

They didn't do anything but search my purse and give me the metal detector when I went to see Kerry. Though I guess it's cuz people don't want to kill him.

Same here when I went to see Edwards, except I didn't have my purse that day.

Seems sort of stupid doesn't it?
How you going to gain any swing voters by preaching to the choir?

I think we're talking about a campaign rally. Conventions are different as they are for the delegates to nominate their candidate. The fact that a few protestors got into the Nuremberg on the Hudson convention, is just a testament to Bush's popularity in NYC.

I went to see Kerry a few weeks ago. You didn't have to show id or anything. I don't know I just think it should be free to everyone, I mean we are the people and stuff. Blah I don't know.
