i can not believe that no representatives of the beasties were present in there hometown for the RNC. the poll on the home page seems to say that
artists need to have there voices heard. you guys were at the vma's while
protesters were being arrested and beaten. now personally i think that is
straight up wack. what about a free show for the people? oh yeah i forgot,
no sneakers. i dont wanna sound negative but this is real! what is up guys?

TIME TO STEP UP.

It just shows that people who have good taste in music also have good taste in political parties.

I really enjoy the beastie boys and their music, but I have always questioned their relationship with MTV and the mainstream record labels.

I agree. I see no need to show up at the MTV music awards. MTV has been the killer of music, movies and entertainment in general among youth. They promote and sell terrible music, while taking advantage of certain artist's who may have strong , good music and fanbases just to sell records, airtime, etc.

If beastie boys didn't sell out to MTV , even just by not showing up to their lame award show, I would support them almost in whole.

as for them showing up at a protest to do a free concert or something, I would discourage it. with a strong anti-bush message and a new record, I think some people (myself included) may take this to be some sort of publicity stunt to sell more records, as opposed to really supporting real change.

The Beastie Boys aren't going to be able to destroy MTV by boycott. They might as well use it to get their music out.

if they would of played a free show in ny, they would of got a lot of more
publicity then they got at the vma's.

fuckin idiots...just because they're musicians who incorporate politics into their material doesn't mean they have to be militant or in the front lines with protestors

Meh, so protesting by inaction ? Maybe they are just trying to make points about how it seems the beasties lack initiative. But I haven't heard about ANY artists showing up and protesting, but there might have been I really don't know.

I agree, I wonder where they were at, I mean even Michael Moore showed up (he must have been a little tipsy to make it through all that crap). However, I think they realize that the better way to reach people is just through their music, not just showing up at protests to make a bigger stink. I think the guys are incredibly classy and intelligent and wouldn't throw a fit. Although, I certainly would if I were anywhere NEAR the RNC. :)

Maybe the reason the Beasties didn't go is because they are not Republican.
