To the people attending the show:

PLEASE post information that people WANT to hear regarding the show. There is nothing more annoying than a vague review. "The show was good. I liked Mike D's shirt"

I will be on point people like a snow day for school with hot cocoa

What are you in charge of where people write their reviews? Heh...

I guess tonight we'll see if they are playing instruments or not, eh?

Describe the energy?

Alright. I was there at Red Rocks this evening. Yes, the show was unbelievable. Started off with an awesome Root Down, a couple more songs including Right Right Now Now, and then they played a few instrumental stuff and back to some more singing. Everything sounded amazing, that's Red Rocks for you. The first encore was the outrageous, with the Beastie Boys singing Intergalalctic in the middle of the crowd. I was probably 20 feet away, if that. Too cool, especially since Intergalactic is my favorite Beastie song. If you went away from this show disappointed, you are crazy. I'm out of words. Oh yeah, my favorite part of the show was when they did "The Weave" at the very beginning.

Yo!

The setlist covered everything..surprised to hear Brass Monkey!
They played just about 90 minutes..
Sadly no Sasquatch
They had their political agenda, but it was done in what I thought was an unassuming, albeit clever way with Will Ferrell
The energy was what you would expect from a B Boys show..crazy, exciting, an excellent show.
Red Rocks is an amazing place to see a show..I saw the Beastie Boys open for Run DMC on the same stage 17 years ago..and I remain impressed..

Aight.
I was there last nite. The show was awesome, my first, sadly. I enjoy all of their albums and I was very happy to hear a nice array of songs spanning the whole era. (check the set list previously posted, pretty accurate by my stoned out memory) The only complaint was that the crowd was getting too rowdy. I bet there woulda been a mosh pit if it were level and that woulda been cool and all, but red rocks is kinds sloped standing room and so the rowdy crowd was throwing stuff and then messing with MCA when he was in the center of the crowd (no idea how he got there) but I must say for gettin' a little hassled by roaring crowds, (drunk licensed to ill lovin' kids made most of the crowd it seemed) he was very cheerful and they all were as a matter of fact. They all wore matching green and yellow "Cosmos" (NY soccer team if I remember) warmups. Adidas brand of course, Very cool. Let's see..... by the way, I am at work and remembered the show pretty vividly, been to twelve shows this year and this was probably the best. Red Rocks was a big part of that, oh yes, they had some very awesome video boards set up. One long one against the back that was split like vertical blinds and they were all crystal clear and playing some sweet video clips and shit. They even took requests prior the show and played some of them (Paul Revere being the most, LTI fans... ) Any way, that is all I can stone out right now. Check back later. Peace.

fred-man
09-10-2004, 08:41 AM
P.S. They only stopped once, I don't know who's fault. Maybe D's.... Dunno for sure cuz they kept jumping songs and changin' lyrics here and there. Don't know if they forgot some of them or what. But no complaints here, we couldn't even sing out "Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens... etc. Like I said before, mostly LTI fans. But yeah, once again like I said before.........
FUC KING AWESOME SHOW!!!!

fred-man
09-10-2004, 08:46 AM
Oh yeah....... another thing. MMM opened with a couple minutes of mixing. He came out like he did in the "Three MC's and One DJ" video (they followed him through the halls with a camera, w/o the backpack though, so maybe not so much) But he tore that shit, he is awesome, I always dug him, but more respect now. He mixed in the first part of "Purple Haze" in that first couple minutes. Then throughout the set he kept changing the beats without losing tempo. Just stellar! So to all you MMM haters, "...so if you don't like MMM, Then Hey Fuck You!"
L8 (again)

He said...
"The Beastie Boys have always been ridiculous. They were ridiculous in 1986, when they danced on stage with giant inflatable phalluses and rapped about girls being good for doing the laundry. And they're ridiculous in their late 30s, dancing frantically in green-and-yellow jumpsuits, looking for all the world like Oakland A's fans who've retired to Florida."

Didn't even read the word "Cosmos" on the jumpsuits... and references the LTI days, as I said all them were LTI fans it seemed. But his reference on not having a band, later he states that they busted out instrumental shit. I think he is just an idiot and wrote the review at midnight before deadline, after twelve Brass Monkeys (anyone had that, not bad), dumbass... Yeah, what a tool.

As comic book guy would say " best show ever"

The fact that they played their instruments kicked so much ass
(first let me start by saying if my sentences dont make sence,I am still hungover, big time)
Ok so the set list that they chose was out of this world,A bunch of people requested Paul Revere and that was so sweet to see it played in person. I was a little disaapointed that they didnt play In a world gone mad but I guess they are never going to play that song again.
They had Will Ferrell acting like Bush,it was so funny. Colorado is not a Bush state,so we loved it.
Talib Kewli blew me away. I have never really been a fan of his or really ever heard his music, however e put on one hell of a show. It was awesome, the man can flow.
The dog show at the very begining was a little wierd only beucase I was still walking stairs so I didnt see the whole thing, when I got inside there were these dogs checking the mail(I thought um,ok)

To the Beastie Boys themselfs- Thank you so much. Last night was so much fun. Denver Loves you and Hopes you come back again oneday.

Oh yeah.... the dog show. How awesome to open with a dog show. The dogs were ones that were on tv, they do tricks like tight-rope walking and one dog even went sideways... hard to explain, but it was cool. Especially cuz it wasn't some crappy band and it was something different. Gotta love the B-Boys for always bringin' something different to the show.

Anyone on the floor last night? I want to know how the GA process went!
Almost everyone was on the floor.... Red Rocks don't have a floor, hence no mosh pit as I said earlier. The first twenty-four rows were GA, and so were the fifty or sixty something on up to the top... so the middle was the reserved seating, which is where I was. If you want to be in the first twenty something rows (at this show atleast) you gotta be like four hours early. But once again, it was not a typical venue... Not something that some of you non-Coloradans would expect. Red Rocks is different. Good different. Hope that helps

Ok, I too was at last nite's red rocks show and I can honestly say that it was the best damn show that I have ever been to. The last time that I saw beastie boys was at their Lollapalooza Tour back in 94'-10 years I had to wait to see the best band of all time. I was front row, dead center last night, their show was nothing less than incredible. When they played Paul Revere's ride I thought I was going to loose it. They really looked like they were having a blast up there, playing off the crowd and really bringing it back to their roots. Aside from an amazing set list and two insane encores, the beginning of the show when Mix Master Mike came walking out with record in hand and started mixing some of the best music that I have ever heard in my life....that totally turned on the energy at the show. If only I could thank them personally for making last nite my best concert ever and playing red rocks instead of some shitty venue in the city!!!!!! :D

Hey Beastly fans! The Red Rocks show was fantastic. I don't have many more words to add, the folks in this forum have already laid out the experience pretty well. I did happen to get a killer recording of the entire show from our third row GA seats, including Taleb Kweli's set, which was also one of the better rap performances I have ever seen! Any interested traders, please e-mail me at jim@keechstudio.com for info. It may take a couple weekends to get converted to cd...so please be patient.

Mix Master Mike is one helluva DJ and The Three were jamming! What a kick-as kick off!

Last Night was Amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I was in the second row. I got there at 1130am to get good seats.

If you were there I was the girl with the crazy green bug eye glasses that they put up on the screen on stage! hahaha

That was the most fun I've ever had at any concert ever.

The Boys asked that everyone please vote against Bush. =) I agree.

Also they are all Vegans! Pretty cool huh. I am too. It's nice to see that a band can be so talented AND be genuinely trying to make a difference in the world too. Sometimes I feel like my generation doesn't give a shit about anybody but themself, but I still have hope. Thank you Micheal Moore. haha

outstanding show. Paul Revere was nuts, Sabotage was unbelievable. The WEAVE was hot. My only complaint would have been more time on stage. It seemed to cruise by so fast. Find a way to get tix if you don't have them for upcoming shows. They did not dissapoint. I don't remember them playing instruments last time I saw them YEARS ago in Phoenix, so that was nice to see. These guys have always been way talented and have constantly evolved and had chances to do and try cool new stuff. Thanks for the great night BBoys and sorry I didn't catch most of Talib. Huge loss on my part, he's great.

HEART STOPPING EXPERIENCE!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!

I've been to a lot of Red Rocks Shows and seen some of the greatest bands of our time there including:

Radiohead
Jurassic 5
Common
Tom Petty
The Roots
Erika Badu
311
Tool
Phish

Let me say I've never felt that kind of energy at Red Rocks or any venue for that matter. It was incredible.

I got into the ampitheatre at around 6:45. Somehow we found a spot in the 5th ROW!! First thing I noticed was that they had Talib's stage set out in front and behind it was a black curtain. Behind the black curtain there was another stage set that included a drum set. At that moment I knew everyone was about be apart of something special.

The dog show was ridiculous, something you would expect to see at a Beasties show. Nobody has mentioned that Mike and Adam H were watching it from the side of the stage. They looked like two teenage boys at the circus or something. It was hilarious and proves how young at heart they really are. Another note: Adam H had shaved his head like back in the IC days.

Talib was on point as usual. He definitely got the crowds attention after the dog show and rocked it for about an hour or so. The ampitheatre was packed to the brim for his enire set which is something I've never seen happen for the first act at Red Rocks. He threw in some Black Star, Tribe, Pete Rock, and finished with Just To Get By. The intensity level was rising throughout his set and the anticipation was overwhelming. Impossible to ignore.

As people have mentioned MMM was followed from the tunnel to the Tables and cold threw it down. He was at the top of his game last night. He put on Root Down and the place almost exploded. They were wearing the green warmups and vintage hats from the LTI days with their respective names on them. AWESOME!!

Nobody has mentioned how it all went down with the instruments. When they disappeared backstage it did not appear like they had brought there instruments to almost the entire crowd. Especially since they had taken a brief break earlier and did not reappear playing them. All of a sudden MCA's bassline on Sabrosa shakes the somewhat quieted crowd. At that point everyone knew what was going down. MMM's stage set starts to shift over and the curtain is raised on the entire band sharply dressed in vintage tuxedos all packed on this tiny little moveable stage surrounded by cheesy christmas lights. They looked like the goddamn guest band at a wedding. The moveable stage rotated to the forefront and we are in the midst of an incredible jam session via the Boys, Money Mark Nishita and Alfredo. Sabrosa was followed by Ricky's Theme and a little Groove Holmes if memory serves. Then they busted out SGTG and Adrock had the distorted microphone shit.

Back to the hip hop bit. They were in fine form. Playing off eachother and the crowd and enjoying themselves. MCA was in rare form dancing and messing with the crowd. Adrock was brilliant as always. The guy has the ability to bring a crowd to its knees. Mike D was unshakeable. He has such a clear voice. You can hear every word he says which is rare for an emcee live. They finish with Ch-Check It Out

First encore: Intergalactic in the middle of the crowd! They created an electric atmosphere that I'm not sure will ever be duplicated at the legendary venue. Adrock stole the show again.

Lights go on and everyone is positive the show is over. I was like no way the show is fucking over. They haven't really laced into their instruments yet.

Second Encore: Sure enough they reappear with the band with the same scenario as before. They launch into the most energetic Gratitude I think the've ever played. They closed it out with Sabotage. By this time the crowd was absolutely beyond itself. It was like we had entered an alternative universe via the band. Things were so out of hand that you couldn't really even hear Adam's vintage scream. I know it sounds cliche but I don't know if I will ever see a better show for as long as I live.

AWWWWESOME show last night at RR! The most perfect night for a concert too. We had reserved seats but got there early enought to get decent seats in GA, probably 15 or so rows up from the stage. I can't even say which part I liked the best, the entire show was just off the hook! This was my 3rd BB show and definitely the best! Red Rocks just makes it all the better. I loved Paul Revere, Pass the Mic, Shake Your Rump, So Whatcha Want...the only other song I would have loved to hear was Eggman, but I don't know if that is too obscure for them to do or what. They only did the three songs from TT5B, which was suprising, but ok with me, I loved hearing the oldies!! We were really close to the sound booth so when they appeared there for Intergalactic I was REALLY kicking myself for not bringing my camera!! I would have had some kick ass pics. *Sigh* I loved the Will Farrell stuff, also when Mike made the comment about the election and how we all need to vote Bush out, that was cool. The crowd was overwhelmingly cheering a for that, but I did hear a few boos (which I don't understand, if you disagree with that then why are you there? This could be a whole other topic for another time, but I have never been able to like bands/music that I disagree with politically, it just doesn't do it for me, since so much of their views show up in their music. Then again I am very political, so there you go).
And I think I peed my pants during Sabatoge at the end.
THANK YOU BEASTIE BOYS!!!

whoa that concert sounds shit hot! if only they would come to Britain sooooooooooooon! i just think its cool that they lied there asses off to Zane Lowe on MTV2 - and i quote "No instruments this time... we want to concentrate on the pure hiphop side of things again." im going to buy tickets the first day theyre announced any midlands dates!

I've seen Coldplay and Radiohead at sold out shows at RRocks and NOTHING compared to the audience there last night. Freaking amazing crowd and a great mix of all types of people but especially an older crowd (late 20's and 30's). Was amazed that that were practically no black people though. :(

Wish I'd had better seats (had GA and got in there at about 7:40 and had to settle with seats in the trees by the side) but was happy to get a great side view of that crowd.

As to expected with an opening show there was a LITTLe slopiness here and there but that's what brings a lot of the charm to hearing the guys. They kind of overloaded the sound system with Sabotage (organ had some crazy overloaded distortion) but I was glad they came out to do 2 more songs.

I recommend that any city you're in pay attention to what friendly radio stations are in your town. Before the show (on the way to the venue) on KTCL they played a 15 minute megamix finishing with a merge of Intergalactic with Rush's Tom Sawyer over it. After the show they played a "Beastie's invade the studio" program they recorded earlier in the day with a bunch of songs they requested and with antics from the band. Both I would have loved to have recorded so make sure your friends at home listen and tape if they can. :)

We got in line around 9am and were able to get front row center!!! The Beasties literally blew me away and it was almost too much to handle. They sounded freaking awesome!!! Rumor has it that they filmed the show for a live DVD? Anybody else hear this? While in line my group was filmed by the "Beasties Cam" and the guy asked us if they could use the footage during the show or on a dvd!!! The set list was off the hook and playing Paul Revere, Pass the Mic and Brass Monkey was the icing on the cake.....If anybody has the chance to go to their upcoming shows DO NOT MISS THEM. Best show I have seen them put on. I want to shout out to the Beasties Dad's and Mom's for bringing them into this world and so on!!!!!!.....You guys jam and come back to Denver soon.

that was the weakest Beastie Boys concert Ive ever seen. Give a break people the beasties didnt play any of their punk rock stuff, plus there was only TWO songs from Pauls Boutique. I am severly disappointed in the Beasties and it will take alot to get me to go to another show. 90 mins for 50 bucks...should have been 120 at least for 50 bucks

HEART STOPPING EXPERIENCE!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!

I've been to a lot of Red Rocks Shows and seen some of the greatest bands of our time there including:

Radiohead
Jurassic 5
Common
Tom Petty
The Roots
Erika Badu

Tool

You know..... I agree that it is sad they didn't bust out some freestylin' bulloiboise (sp?) type of shit, or maybe lookin' down the barrel... or even Shadrach, one of my favs. And sure, they coulda played some more punk'n shit... like their roots, but still they busted out root down first off... givin' respect to the hip-hop roots... then they bust out something from EVERY album... oh wait, except from SOB......... but if you are gonna hate just cuz of that then open up your own thread saying how you pussed out on the B-Boys just cuz they didn't call you before doing the show to see what you wanted.... cuz it ain't our fault that most people requested Paul Revere... which is the B-Boy story.

I think the show was great, been a fan of the B Boys since I was a kid (when fight for your right hit the airwaves in Denver). Regretfully I have never been to a B Boys concert until last night, almost 20 years of listening and I am damn glad I was able to see them live last night.

They are great performers and the best thing, being 30 and not feeling out of place because of the great mix of fans. Tailgating in the parking lot was awesome as always, I liked how there was one guy running around selling one hitters, then like 10 minutes later some other dude comes running buy with a handful of those one hitters for sale "pre loaded." There was also a girl doing some fire dancing right by us.

I will have to agree that i was very dissappointed at how short the show was. It was like all of a sudden it just ended and everyone left. We actually hung around until they booted us on the odd chance they were screwing with everyone. I can't recall ever having to leave red rocks at 10:30, then again I don't think I've ever been to a show in September so maybe theres something in that. As for seating we had GA but ended up sitting in reserved seating right in the middle at row 50. We had no trouble bringing in a 6 pack either. I think they were more worried about weapons than anything else. They frisked me for a good minute.

Ok so here's my opinion on the show at Red Rocks, if you were in the first 20 rows the show was awesome. If you were any higher such as the other 75% of the crowd then the show sucked ass and the best thing there was the expensive beer and the new vistor's center. My biggest complaint is the sound, it was lousy at best. Mics cutting in and out, sounds just bleeding together no definition of notes. Red Rocks is the best natural Amplitheater in the country and I've never heard sound so bad as I did last night. I spoke with the production manager for Red Rocks and he says the equipment was all Beastie Boy's stuff. So to the Beasties I say buy some new freaking equipment, maybe a new sound board, mics, and some better speakers with good amps or get a new sound engineer. I hope for the rest of the tour the sound is better because this wasn't a very good way to start the show off. Especially for not playing at the Rocks in a decade.

Dood, maybe it wasn't that bad.... We all know the speakers were giving out at the end.... but the beats were a flowin' with the prose... man it was great. We all wish those who did not enjoy the sound, the set list, the beer, whatever..... we wish all of those (including you) had a great time. But we, the rest of the crowd..... maybe more, we all enjoyed it thoroughly. All of us wishing it was longer and more, as we would with any AWESOME concert. Cuz I'm sure the dood in the funny red suit enjoyed it, and his seven or eight dogs probably did too.

Only on Sabotage did the sound kick out (distortion). i think maybe you need to sit closer as that may be your problem. Sound down was great. The speakers ARE probably RRock's so thats the main focus of your argument.

No matter who owned the speakers, no matter the problems with Sabotage. The show kicked ass, the sound was fine (overall) and the B-Boys brought it together..... everyone else who is nit-picking should stop and chill for a sec. .....and that's it. Don't say anything. Just chill. Cuz that concert had nothing to nit-pick. .......So to all the B-Boys and B-Girls......... L8 and have a good weekend, hopefully the sound is ok.

I'm glad to see The New Style and Posse In Effect! We need some more of old school like these. I've seen many shows and they shouldn't cater to just people who've never seen them. The set list looks like a greatest hits album. How many times can we hear Sabotage? I mean don't get me wrong. I love hearing that song but give us some more to chew on then the same old set list we've seen for the past 6 years.

Well I'm a new member here but I was one of the Attendees at last nights show.

awesome.

I have never seen them live and was waiting for a long time (seeing how they haven't come to colorado for a long time at least not when i was old enough to go haha)

Me and my best friend (it was her birthday!) got at Red Rocks come 2pm.
The wait was long and boring but well worth it. We ended up in center second row (AWESOME SEATS).

The only thing that bothered me was a lot of people were very trashed and were constantly coming into the first few rows pushing and trying to take seats. During the show some people got in a fight ahead of us and they had to be hauled away. MCA was near out side of the stage at the time and I believe Mike D was singing. MCA was staring at all the commotion and even look a bit dispointed. It was strange but even as they were singing all three watched the fight some.

The set was great. It was already mentioned so I won't repeat. The visuals were simple but effective and The boys seemed to me to only mess up maybe once or twice.

Second row was a godly experience and I recommend anyone with GA tix to go waste your day waiting cause it's definately worth it.

Hmmm, it was according to Beastiemania...

Oops, my bad.
I put up a partial setlist for the show last night - seems I wasn't paying too much attention after drinking at the pub/bar for a few hours beforehand and then I was getting ready to go out and see Muse. :o
Anyway, we'll put up the correct setlist in the next few days as soon as its sorted out what instrumentals were played in the middle. Someone took a recording - so can they supply the setlist?

Aah shit I have school the day of the Vancouver show and live like 45 minutes away from the venue and can't drive myself. I hope since it's in an arena I can push my way to the front once I'm in, but I'm thinking that since it's a big venue with lots of reserved seats I won't have a whole lot of trouble.

The only thing that bothered me was a lot of people were very trashed and were constantly coming into the first few rows pushing and trying to take seats.

Unfortuantely this is a pretty common occurance down in the front at most Red Rocks shows. Some people do not have "show etiquette"- which really pisses me off. Maybe I am getting old? <27>

Anywho- the show was dope. Nice mix of old and new. I was expecting more off "TT5B" but I was surprised to hear them mix it up. Definitely the best B-Boys show I have seen- but the other times I have seen them have been in shitty arenas or at fairgrounds. Nothing compares to Red Rocks . . . . besides the Gorge in WA.

Highlight of the night: Having B-Boys play Intergalactic right in front of my face! I was on the rope behind the SBD. When the lights went down before it happened I saw a guy with a video camera and I knew it was on like Donkey Kong. I had seen the same shit go down at an SCI/STS9 show last Sept. There is a tunnel from the back of the stage to the SBD. HAWT SHIT! I gave MCA a high five.

I'll have to agre with Miss_miner. We waited in line and made a mad dash to secure third row seats after the gates opened. Things were pretty chill until the Beasties came on and then drunk testosterone meat heads just crushed people to try to get closer. Fortunately the security at Red Rocks was on top of things and quicky threw those people out.

And its been said many times before, this show was off the hook and I think they had a good mix between albums which made the show that much better.

Does anybody have pictures to share?

I was in the 3rd row, and it kicked ass. My first time to their concert. Was SO CLOSE to getting autographs. Bummer. But, when I get pics, I'll let you know!

I love hearing that song but give us some more to chew on then the same old set list we've seen for the past 6 years.

I'm not sure where you've been seeing them over the past 6 years; I don't think they've played mre than a handful of shows since they wrapped up the Helly Nasty tour in '99...

The show was definately amazing, I heard that they are filming a live DVD/Video with footage from this show. Does anyone know anything about this, is it hype? And by the way, everyone knows their socks always match their underwear.

Would someone care to explain this to me. I'm always at a loss when I hear someone say it.

We weren't shooting DVD/Video at that show. There was a BBC crew there for Top of the Pops that recorded 3 songs (one was tripple trouble). No idea what their schedule for air was. Gotta get your friends in England to keep an eye out for it.

I know this is a little late, but does anyone know the semi 'rock' song Talib Kweli did before the Beasties came on?
