props to MCA for pointing out the discrepancies in radio nowadays.. just no reason for it whatsoever.. rock stations playing beasties, eminem, a touch of cypress.. but nothing else...
..also pointing out the (mis-)perception that they're largely thought of as a rock band who dabbles...

MCA: It’s surprising. There’s things like, “Shake Yo’ Rump” that are just Hip-Hop songs. It’s more of a Hip-Hop song than a Rock song, anyway. And they’ll play that on Classic Rock stations. It’s weird. I’m like, “But that’s a Hip-Hop song, and you probably wouldn’t play anybody else’s Hip-Hop song.” I don’t know. It is some weird s**t, but I don’t know.

That was my very same reaction when I saw "Triple Trouble" at number 1 on MTV2 Rock Countdown. "Triple Trouble" is definitely a hip-hop song. It is weird shit and I hope that gets fixed soon! The Beastie Boys should be taken seriously as hip-hop musicians and be played on the right countdowns and stations.

That was a great interview by the way. I will never tire from listening to PB. Allhiphop.com was right when they said that it still sounds like a brand new record.

QUOTE FROM http://www.allhiphop.com/features/:

ALLHIPHOP.COM:
M.O.P. did a Rock cover of “No Sleep Til’ Brooklyn” this summer, have you heard it?

MCA: I haven’t heard it. I should check it out. I wanna hear what they did.

Thanks for posting the link to that. Adam Yauch always gives nice interviews, especially with a decent interviewer.

I agree with Wints about the negative message board posts, but I'm sure he notices the positive posts, as well.

I do have to say that being a new guy on the site, the more I go through the threads, the more I respect the Beasties and the Beastie fans.

Thanks for posting these links.

In my city, the station that plays the most Beastie Boys is the rock station, while I've yet to hear them on our urban station. It's just bizarre; how is Ch-Check It Out rock?

It's also interesting to note how often Yauch mentions the messageboards in interviews. It always kinda throws me for a loop when he does that.

hmm.. Yeah, it's a trip.. Offhand, I tend not to even listen to alternative stations anymore because they front on rap.. it's fucked up that some of these stations even brag about it in their advertisements... I'm like-- okay, you don't play country, jazz, or classical, but you gotta be like "fu*k rap!".. stupidity...

But the top 40 stations won't play the beasties new stuff.. but they will play brass monkey and fight for your right on a recurring basis..

the Urban stations "might" sneak in Paul Revere or something LTI era once in a while on some late evening mix show.. there's a live club broadcast that is "old school sunday" up here.. but nothing post-LTI gets play at all..

it doesn't get any better when the conglomerates/network force playlists on stations..
