Well, then I have the scoop. The show didn't start untill 1am because Adrock didn't like the fact that there were red m&m's in their room. So after much debate 3rd Bass was flown in to take the Beasties spot. MC Serch took the stage and demanded everyone to put their hands together for Prime Minister Pete Nice and DJ Daddy Rich. The crowd was confused because the only white rappers they ever heard of was Eminem and the only white guy on the show 227. But then 'Pop Goes The Weasel' started up and shit went off. Literaly. You'd think the people in San Diego are peaceful beach hippies that smoke a lot of weed, but they are not. They bum-rushed the stage and savagely killed the members of 3rd Bass. Then it got worse. The crowd turned into vampires and started to have sex with each other... Oh yeah, and then after that... Will Smith flew into the building in a spaceship and saved the world. And for an encore the Beasties finally came out and performed 'Intergalactic'.

What a great fucking show .

I dug the doggies at the beggining. They were nice.

Then the rap guy did a good job warming up the crowd, and the Dj did nice work to "Me myself and I."

Once MMM got out there, the Beasties followed up in their green jumpsuits. Kicked it all off with Root Down, then Sure Shot, and more.

Then came "Time to get ill." When MCA pointed to my section, we were supposed to say "It's time to get ill!"

After that, the turntables had a malfunction, and the Beasties told us that they needed to fix 'em.

After that was fixed, they all came out wearing these cheesy blue suits... and they played their instruments! Two instrumentals, then "Something's got to give."

More stuff, then "Open letter to NYC," where I felt the whole place to be a lot more emotionally charged.

MCA then noted the date and made a few statemets regarding other country's initial sympathy and Bush's subsequent shenanigans.

Then "Ch-ch check it out" and more.

Then they snuck out and did "intergalactic" in a different spot. Afterwards they returned and rocked out "Gratitude" and ended the show with "Sabotage."

I have bad memory, so refresh it by pointing out everything else, folks.

Anyhoo, it was fantastic. I wasn't expecting headbang-worthy songs on this "hip-hop" tour. Man, was I glad to hear some guitars!

I tell you what! Tonight in San Diego the Boys really fucked up.

They had to leave the stage after 4 or so songs cuz there had been no midrange and hardly any base since the beginning of the show.

When they got back they said "It wasn't our fault, Definitely wasn't our fault!"

Well the who the fucks fault was it?

SDSU, SDG&E, Mine, That girl sitting down the way???

Take resposibility eh'

Even after they came back it wasnt unil the instumental portion that the sound problem was corrected.

What the fuck are they gonna do about it?

How about hiring some decent managers.

If it's my (BB) show then it's my (BB) Fault!

Hey Guys-

Everyone in that arena knew that there was something wrong with the sound the ENTIRE show. Ive never been at a show with that bad sound - wait maybe some crappy punk show in someone's back yard (and then its understandable - not a show I paid a grip of money to get into).

But, it's not the beastie boys fault. So, shoot over an email (like I did) to the venue http://www.cox-arena.com/feedback.html and the beastie boys record label http://www.hollywoodandvine.com/mail/ - because I have no idea who is responsible for sound at a show like that. Dont know if the BB's bring their own people, or the venue has 'em, or what. Let them know that the sound people (or someone) didnt do their job. Sad to see the folks in the band working hard to entertain people who cant really hear what they are trying to do.

Thx-
S

was it in the round or not? and what about length, about how long was the set?

Spanishbomb808

The only sound quirks I noted were the Beastie's oddly high-pitched voices. That, and they were difficult to hear while the music was too loud.

09-12-2004, 01:57 AM
From where I was standing (floor/center) the voices were totally perfect, but the rest of the music (esp. the bass) was really soft or completely drowned out. I also noticed that during the insturmental set (awesome!) you could often not hear the percussionist or the keyboard player and a lot of the vocals. You also couldnt hear a lot of the mixing of MMM. The sound was perfect for talib. Really loud, in fact.

balohna- not in the round, id say that the set was an hour and a half, but that includes the delay to *try* and fix the sound.

You know the story of how Mario C first saw :( the Beasties at club Power Tools in L.A. and the sound system would cut out when the bass would hit. Well we all got close to that tonight. The sound man blew it. When the turntables started to feed back he cut almost the entire house, making the first group of songs only vocals. After they finally paused to "fix it" they added the mid-range back in but left out all the bass for the entire show. On top of that the Will F. skits had no sound.
It hurts my soul as a hip-hop fan to hear a show missing the bottom half of the EQ. The Boys rock as always but where unaware for the most part do to their moniter ear pieces.
If they would have only added a baffeled, cut MMM moniters or lowered the turntable riseser the low end could have been brought in. The opening DJ's turntables had no problems with the lower position and different moniter set-up. Simple the sound crew failed on feed back 101. They just lack the knowledge of hip-hop sound.
I feel cheated.

WORST SHOW EVER!!! Let me point out that I've attended more than 100 shows in my life.
The Beastie Boys San Diego show SUCKED, cause the sound was not all there. No BASE!. How can you go to a hiphop show with no base? Or even worse, no turntable sound from MMM decks. What the hell? To the Beasties defense, they did not seem to know really what was going on, until they noticed that no one was dancing or getting into it. Mike D asked the crowd,"how come no one is dancing?". Finally, one of the crew members(posible tour manager)after 5 or 6 songs, got up on stage and stopped the show. Pulled the boys to the side of stage and explained to them what was going on with the sound. They excused themselves from the crowed, so they can supposely fix the equipment, but after 10 minutes or so of waiting, they came back and continued the show with the same problem. No Base, just midrange. My friend and I drove from Los Angeles to San Diego for this crap. We were very, very dissapointed at the unprofessionalism of this top notch band. I hope the band and specially their management realise that they cheated a lot of their fans tonight by giving us this kind of show. Again, I'm not to blame the boys for this, I'm sure they pay their tour crew a lot of money to do a good job, they(beastie boys) were trying to entertain us with a good show tonight but the tour crew did NOT. I hope they recorded this show tonight and make it available for us to hear the way it suppose to be, with all the highs, mids and lows. Or comeback to SanDiego and repeat your performance to us for FREE.

Sounds like San Diego had some major audio issues. I was at Red Rocks on Thursday 3rd row and the sound was top notch, everything seemed in place -the turntables were fine, vocals were fine and a strong beat was in place. When they did the instrumental gig that sounded great as well. I wouldn't worry about the Philly show, I'm sure after last nights event -they will make sure things are all in place for the following shows on the tour.

So, we were sitting at cox arena, watching the sound go wrong, and I kept thinking about ways to fix it. The low frequency feedback started as soon as MMM came onstage. My guess is that the wireless clip-on mic he was wearing (as he was followed on camera from the parking lot, through the beasties shooting baskets, and out onto the stage) was feeding back, and either they couldn't take it out of the mix, or they didn't think of it. That would explain why the beastie mics were OK, and why the problem wasn't fixed when everybody went off stage (because MMM brought the little mic with him!).

But even though the sound was bad, the boys still rocked.

i gotta say....

love the boys. always have.

they were amazing.

the crowd was amazing.

but the concert was the worst i have ever seen. and i've been to - literally - hundreds.

the sound issue was not a disappointment, it was a disaster. i spoke to the house manager at cox arena that evening, asking him just when would the sound going to be fixed. because it was just unacceptable. his response was "not my problem." amazing. if it's happening in your house - it's your problem.

i talked to a few other supervisors at the end of the night and apparantly it was the beastie boys equipment and their sound crew manning the controls.

what an utter let down. with all the money and time we invested in this concert (we drove down from venice beach) i felt my time would have been better spent sitting in the car with the speakers on 11.

but those guys - they're so amazing.

p.s. - i strongly urge those who feel the same to regsiter their complaints. i've worked in concerts and concert promotions for 4 years and this is just...unacceptable.

I was there on the floor in the cnter, and yeah, the first 3 songs were instrumental. When they "fixed" the problem later it was a little better, but not great. But the crowd began to feel the show oce they got into Super Disco Breakin. The sound was upsetting, but they were great besides that. I was soooooo stoked when they picked up the instruments.

Allright, hre's the setlist I can remember...The order may be fucked up)
Please fix any mistakes...

**I do not claim to be a hyper critical authority on show reviewing nor can I remember a set list to save my life. The following is how I saw/experienced it as a simple fan up in my seat.**

Got to the venue early visited the merch table and purchased myself a Beastie Boys cell phone strap/charm thing. It’s very nice! I suggest you check it out if you get the chance. Proceeded to the ID man to get a stamp on my hand that read ‘BEER’ and purchased a 6dollar molson!

Went to find our seats, not too bad, not the best however. Honestly, I don’t think there was a really horrible spot in the house. Listened some incredible music before the show started that was playing in the arena. Eventually the opening act came out… Bob Mohr and the Amazing Mongrels or something like that. Quite possibly the most adorable act I’ve seen in a long time. A man in a red suit, an assistant and with about a dozen dogs that were nothing short of amazing! Tricks galore! A girl sitting next to me stated, “only the beastie boys”! I couldn’t agree more! Precisely the reason I LOVE ‘em!

Then Talib came out and the crowd roared! His set was tight. He kept referring to the crowd as Bboys and Bgirls. He definitely got the majority of the crowd on it’s feet. … on to the big show….

On a video screen above the stage appeared MMM… everyone went nutz… the cameras were following him as he walked what appeared from the parking lot into the arena and onto the stage all the while he was like ‘are you ready for the beastie boys???” And we were like ‘hell yeah’! He began to do his thing on the ones and twos and the 3 appeared wearing their green and gold Adidas suits with mesh baseball hats bearing their names via what I thought to be iron on lettering. Again… nice touch! Root Down… And the rapping was on and on and on. Complete with ‘the weave’. The video screens were SICK! They had Matrix style camera shots of them right there live, now correct me if I’m wrong, but ain’t that shit expensive as hell???? Damn. Some technical difficulties occurred with the turntable sound… the volume was way down. At first I was like, hmmmm, maybe they are just trying to exhibit how well they can rap without too much additional, kinda real old school on the streets or something. Finally they realized what was goin on and had to break to fix it. Adrock was like gee, we could just sit here on the stage while they fix it, kinda like how silly would that be… so they ended up going backstage. MCA I think said something like ‘oh somebody’s going to get fired’ It was funny. They were off, the sound guys went to work and minutes later it was all better. They came out and started again with triple trouble. MCA did mention that it was Sept 11 and to not vote for Bush, he’s not the man to protect us. It was short and sweet. Then when they did “An open letter…” Adrock, instead of ‘since 9/11, we’re still livin’ he said, ‘IT’S 9/11, we’re still livin’. Again, nice touch. MCA called someone out on the floor that was on their cell phone! Like HEY! And he said this is pageant! Something like you gotta dress up for this people! No Birkenstocks and shit! Personally, I couldn’t agree more I purchased new Cole Haan G series shoes for the event! At some point they did Time to Get Ill. MCA took my third of the crowd and we had to answer when he said ‘what’s the time?” Mike D took the center and Adrock the opposite side. They bantered about who’s section would win. As an incentive, Mike D offered his section money. Adrock offered his section of ‘sexy people’ an after party in Mike’s room! Ha Ha! And MCA offered us milkshakes. I think we won, so hey Adam, I want my milkshake!

When they disappeared behind the black curtain, I knew what was up due to reading the red rock posts! OOOOHHHHHH! YES! They came out on an elevated mini stage with lanterns above it and a red skirt thing around it at the base. Wearing vintage tuxes or suits, grey, with bow ties! I cannot help it but I was like they are soooo cute I could just bite ‘em! Of course they were playing their instruments, with Mark on keyboards and I think it was Alfredo on percussion. MCA had the upright bass. Mike D at the drum kit of course. Adrock looking need I say it… ADORABLE!

They went back to the Adidas gear and for the encores, yeah pural, so don’t leave after the first one people. First encore was intergalactic from the VIP section of the arena halfway up the crowd. Lucky SOBs, Adrock even climbed up the rail and the crowd was all up on him! SECOND one made my YEAR, hell, LIFETIME! GRATITUDE! On another like stage with the instruments then closing out with SABOTAGE! God DAMN! Made my head spin, stomach flutter, and heart warm! Thank you Beastie Boys. See you Monday! ;)

I was disappointed in the opening acts - poor dogs in complete servitude and an irritating rapper who couldn't stop saying "San Diego". The only thing he had going for him was his DJ. Geez even No Doubt got Distillers and Garbage!

I love the Beasties but this show was not Beastie caliber. I had expected a PARTAY after being gone so long, but the Boys were unfortunately plagued by a mediocre venue and crew. That is not to say I did not love the Boys in action - as I usually can't keep my eyes off Adrock ;) I was so bummed that I was on the other side of the arena for Intergalactic - but they had to work way too hard for something that they are usually pro at. I agree with some of the other postings that those of us who actually spent money on this concert should get some sort of kick back - I just wanted to see a really good Beastie Boys show.

BB still rock me tho :)

Yeah the SD show was a real let down! We were all amped for a GREAT show that we know the B-Boys produce for their fans. To have such a dynamic act as the Beasties come out with NO BEAT for 5 or 6 songs was LAME!! I don't think anyone involved in the show even realized there was anything wrong. Thats pretty bad for the opener to have way better sound quality than the headliners. It didn't even look like anyone was trying to fix the problem. After the show was stopped for a sound check, the Beasties came back out to NO BASS OR MIDS! It did prove how good the Beasties are because even with fucked up staff & crew they still rock the house! I'll be complaining for sure. Who do you blame though??? The staff on the sound board I talked to said that it was the groups equipment-...Yeah right! Like they have MCA setting up MMM's tables. If the Beasties knew who the clowns running their shows were the would train a new team who actually cares for the quality of the shows as much as the Beasties & the Fans. Does anyone agree?

Just wish everyone else felt the same way. Had GA tix, but didn't arrive at the arena until 6pm, so I figured we'd be way back on the floor. Well, they let us in at approx. 6:15, and we ended up front row on the rail, towards the right edge of the stage. Front row for my first show - couldn't ask for anything better! Got to meet Minton and TPK before the show, which was cool - some very nice guys! FYI, the full setlist in order:

I have seen the Beasties only once in my life prior to last night, the only time I saw them was in Coachella 2003, and I thought that their performance was absolutely great, MMM was bustin the turntables despite the heavy winds, and the boys brought their A game as well.

So having that performance in mind I thought that this one was going to be even better due to the fact that they haven’t been touring in a while, the new record, the addition of instruments and the good reviews from the Red Rocks show.

But I have to say that I am heavily disappointed by their performance last night, MMM came in and everything was great and after some minutes the beasties came in with root down, everything was going great and then the sound system failed, we could only hear their rhymes but we couldn’t hear the beats and scratches for the first 4-5 songs, after that the beasties went backstage again so the problem could be fixed.

After the staff “corrected the problem” the sound was still really weak I remember MMM going crazy on 3 mc’s and 1dj and we could barely hear what he was doing on the turntables. The only time when the sound was right was on the instrumental tracks, the instrumental break where MMM proved why he is one of the best dj’s around.

One more complaint is the length of the set which was around a 1 ˝ hours with the problems included, I honestly don’t know how something like this can happen to one of the best performers in the planet, I hope that this problem doesn’t happen again in any other venue because we, as fans come into their concerts waiting to hear what they are capable of doing and it was very sad to see them like that, I mean the only songs that I heard loud and clear were absolutely great, but I couldn’t appreciate the rest of their work as I would like to due to the weak sound system.

Don’t get me wrong the beasties are among my all time favorites and I still think that they are great live and I know that if the sound would have been right the concert would have kicked ass, but it didn’t because the sound fucking sucked and for sure this thing was not worth the 45 dlls.

The Beastie Boys should fire their entire crew for putting them in this fucking situation

What has been previously said is pretty much what happened. What a disappointment. Much to the BB credit, they "addressed and fixed" the problem, as best as possible. C'mon now, how do you go out on a major, headlining tour, and fuck up like this?

Talib Kwali sucked. Sorry to say, but, thats MHO. I was really looking forward to his set too.

The dogs were lame. First show that I've ever been to, where they did some crap like that. Lame. The lights in the venue dropped for the dog act, and everyone started towards the stage, for a dog act. Why drop the lights? And WTF, it's 2004, why am I watching animal cruelty on stage? Not too cool to see the dogs literally jumping from height onto one anothers backs.

The BB tried. They still have great energy. I was psyched to see them again. I'm sure they'll fix their problems, and they weren't just audio, they were pissed at the video production team too.

9:20 MMM enters (the video screens showed him walking in from outside, and walking past the BB's, who were backstage playing basketball)

MMM
Root Down
Sure Shot
Right Right Now Now
Pass the Mic
Flute Loop
All Lifestyles (first ever live performance?)
Time To Get Ill

9:50 - this is when they left so the audio could be repaired
The Humpty Dance played over the house system :)
9:58 - they returned to the stage

Triple Trouble
Super Disco Breakin'
Three MC's and One DJ
MMM
Sabrosa
In 3's
Something's Got To Give
An Open Letter to NYC
Paul Revere
Brass Monkey
Shake Your Rump
So What'cha Want
Ch-Check It Out

Intergalactic (played from a luxury box [?] in the crowd

Gratitude
Sabotage

Show ended at 11 pm

So there you are. Cool meeting up with you too.

This show was definitely tight. A lot of people who've seen a lot of shows will tell you this is Beastie Boys at their best. I'd agree. So check out a show or two if you can. :)

Can anyone remember the exact line they said when the turntables got messed up? Something along the lines of:

"We can take a break for 5 mins, or have a fucked up show."

And also, what did he say about 9-11 that pissed off the crowd? I was in the benches in the upper tiers, so I was kinda unable to catch their every word.

They said it'd take ten minutes to fix. And it took less. If people are pissed about that, calm the fuck down. The show was tight - that's one minor problem early on in this tour, and it was resolved quickly. Definitely not their fault, too. Just like Mike told you. :)

Yauch said the U.S has seen a whole lot of goodwill towards it from other countries post 9-11. That's all. No big deal really, I don't think people reacted too much to it in a negative way. Or not that I saw anyway.

I was on the floor in SD, mid center. The base was definitely not there, the rest of the audio wasn't right it just sounded a bit muffled and quite. The Boys were on and you could hear the lyrics better b/c of the quite audio, I think they could rock alot of their songs alcapella, at first I thougth the sound was intentional, but then it become obvious there was a malfunction. The crowd started chanting "Turn it Up!", that's when they took their break.

After they came back out, the kicked it, but the sound still didn't sound 100%. I didn't notice any sound problems on their intrumental songs. It was still a good show, just a bit dodgey on the sound.

I arrived at about 8:00, just as Talib Kweli started his set.

I noticed that the security was pretty light, and It was pretty crowded. I swear It was almost sold out. There were a few sections that were behind the stage that were taped off and empty. I mean BEHIND the stage, so you can hear but not see the performers. I assume there is a screen back there or something.

Talib Kweli's set was pretty good, however the sound was extremely loud, thusly it was impossible to understand most words. I was in row 14, by the way. I liked how he ended with a song that sampled The Beatle's Eleanor Rigby. There was a 7 minute or so break before the Beasties came out.
(Cox Arena is a closed type dome thing, not an open-air type venue by the way)
So, the lights dimmed, and there's a video of MMM walking toward the stage. He gets up on stage, and shortly after the Beasties appear in their green jumpsuits. As it has been mentioned, the bass was missing. 3 or 4 songs in, a guy with cox arena gets up on stage. He whispers to the Beasties, informing them that the sound/bass is fucked up, and there's a problem with the turntables. I thought his was part of the show or something. He gets off stage, and then the crowd is presented with an choice "We can take a 5 minute break and get this sorted out or we can play a fucked-up show."
It seems people prefered the fucked-up show, but the Beasties get off stage, and there was a ten minute break. Then the Beasties play a few songs.

The sound was still fucked-up, but slightly better. I mean, we paid good money to see them and the sound should be decent and have some goddamned bass. I swear Talib Kweli was louder than The Beastie Boys.
They play a few songs, then they break out the instruments. MCA (I think) dedicates a insturmental to, oddly enough; George Bush. There's video of someone (I swear it was Will Ferell of SNL) dressed as Bush. However there is no sound. Bush is out on a ranch or farm type thing and he's gesturing with farm tools such as hoes, a pitchfork, etc. Before "Open Letter", they mention not voting for Bush, etc. They closed with Sabotage. I noticed the Beasties did quite a bit of swearing, and not just in their songs. I swear that everyone was standing up, singing along and cheering the whole entire Beasties show.
I decided to get a T-shirt or two after the show and the shirts are 25 fucking dollars. Shit...

In short, fuckin' awesome, the sound was fucked-up, but still it was fuckin' awesome.

The back of your throat is gonna hurt real soon.

About the Boys. I think what they have always done best is to choose fantasic beats to wrap to and/or add to their songs. i.e. Root Down.

I simply cant believe i enjoy so much the musuc that is put out by three New York JEW BAGS!!

Yeah, I thought that I heard some boo's in there as well. I think that the booing was more in regards to bagging on Dubya the Dolt, not about 9\11. Keep in mind, SD is a republican\conservative town. And San Diego State ain't Berkeley.

Someone else posted something about the Wil Ferrell video that was playing on the screens. If you have not seen this video, do so right now.

This is a must see, put some Depends on, you'll need them.

Another point, on another post. There was a lot of security on the floor, too much, if you ask me. It was way chill on the floor. Most polite crowd I've seen in years. And yeah, the venue did look to be full, it was technically a sell out. But. I saw tix going for $5 on craigslist, and a couple of my friends got into the show for free, because people were just giving tickets away outside. Literally, giving them away.

Oh, and one more thing. How dare MCA bag on Phish. He was talking about being dressed up for the performance, and commenting on some people in the crowd, and what they were wearing. He said that this wasn't a Phish show. Ouch. Smelled like a Phish show from all the weed being smoked on the floor.

Go watch that video. It's a must see.

After getting tickets and driving from Tucson (6 hours) to see one of my favorite groups of all time, I have mixed feelings about the show. Yes, the sound was f-ed up, and it really weakened the show. On the other hand, I've never seen the B Boys play live, and they were fantastic. I was especially impressed with the instrumental portions of the show. I would rather focus on the positive portions of the experience than dwell on the negative. I know I'll be able to look back at this show and say "that kicked ass!", rather than "that was the worst f-ing show I've ever seen".

If the Boys are reading this, Thanks!

the sound was turned way down on the turntables for the first few songs, but it was dope to hear the beasties sounding a capella-ish. it didn't negatively affect the experience at all. the only thing that sucked was that the anti-bush ads couldn't be heard either. it was an awesome show. the sd crowd can't compare to the love the beasties will get in LA, though.

Here is my take on the whole deal. I and my girlfriend arrived at around 7:00 to hang around (after driving from Phoenix, AZ the day before), get a shirt, some stuff to drink and kinda relax before the show started. The dog show was interesting, I had never seen anything like that at a concert before but whatever. I was actually pretty impressed with Talib. I have Quality and was pleasntly surprised by some of his lyrics and newer stuff at the show. When MMM came out the whole crowd, including myself went crazy. Granted he is good but not quite as good as say Q-Bert from the Invisibl Skratch Piklz but I definitly like the chance to hear a good (great) dj when I get the chance. He did his thing for a couple of minutes, with no noticeable sound problems, maybe lacking a little bass (not base for the some of you in this thread) but overall I was very impressed with his beat juggling skills as they seemed to have gotten better since "Anti-Theft Device." So then the beasties came out. All beats, turntables and everything except for the Beastie's mics cut out (or was lessened to a volume that was not able to be heard). After the 1st song Mike D's mic wasn't working so he excanged it for a new one that worked...thank god. Then they tried to play the Will Ferrell video and that didnt work so the b boys came back out. After about 4 or 5 songs they were informed of the problem and left the stage. I was aware of the problem as were many people however, my girlfriend who is not a huge beastie boys fan didn't notice the problem at all. Which led me to this conclusion. It was great that they didn't have a beat. The did all of that acapella, which if you think about it is pretty damn sweet. Anyway after the problem was fixed, there was still no bass for like 2 songs then everything seemed to be ok. I really enjoyed the show..wish it had gone off with no problems but thats life and I still had an awsome time.

P.S. Thanks for convincing me to go to San Diego tpk...I really appreciate it!

The dogs were lame. First show that I've ever been to, where they did some crap like that. Lame. The lights in the venue dropped for the dog act, and everyone started towards the stage, for a dog act. Why drop the lights? And WTF, it's 2004, why am I watching animal cruelty on stage? Not too cool to see the dogs literally jumping from height onto one anothers backs.

.

i agree with you on this. i dont understand how someone ESPECIALLY the beastie boys would support this. granted i dont know too much about this dog-act, and it may indeed for a good cause....i just think using animals as entertainment, forcing them to do things they wouldnt normally do is wrong. i would like to see how the beasties feel about this, remember Adrock rocking the "Animal Liberation" tshirt a few years back on the spin cover? whats up?

and im positive they were jokin on the Phish point. although the cover of Sabotage Phish did....really did kinda suck

anybody eats better than i do...but for serious, dogs dont wanna be in front of THOUSANDS of people [not that i have ever asked one, just using my common sense]. hopefully they have some kinds of adoption program, and maybe seeing the dogs, lends itself to people perhaps adopting the dogs they see? I'm pretty sure that MCA was joking and sarcastic too, just like I was too. C'mon now, anytime Phish gets a reference, it's a good thing, no matter what they say. You're comment included. I got a good laugh out of both.

Hey. Thanks for posting that number for Cox arena. I called, and spoke with Tim, who answered the phone.

I politely expressed my displeasure with the sound in the venue that night, and explained to Tim, that I'm mostly upset about it due to the extreme high cost of the ticket. I told him that I've seen hundreds of concerts, and never saw anything like I did Saturday.

I don't want the Beasties to make it up to me. I don't want Cox Arena to make it up to me. I want Ticket Bastard to make it up to me. I explained this to Tim as well. He was a nice guy, and said that they certainly could pass the information\displeasure along.

If you were there, call that number. Thanks again for posting it. I'm not sure that I'd waste my time and breath on Ticket Bastard.

Exactly. Flood Cox Arena with the complaints, let them do something, and you can actually speak to someone who might actually pretend to care, versus ticketbastard who would blatantly in your face tell you that they couldn't give a care. That is if you got someone to speak to.

So I am from Denver, and attended the Red Rocks show. I am truly sorry you all experienced the problems at the show. No beastie fan should be subjected to sub-par performances. I mean how many more tours do they (promoters not the boys) really think we'll get? (Hundreds I hope) :D
WOW! Talib kwali tore it up! Did the boys play any instrumentals at the show in SD? The Denver show was unbelievable; I would have to say maybe the best b-boy show I have ever been to. It almost tops the 1800 seat show in Vegas for Jam master Jay but it's to close to call, and seriously what was the dog show about? I wasn't expecting to walk in with dogs jumping through hoops on stage.

The guy from Cox was the most helpful person imaginable. I'm stunned. Cox Arena had nothing to do with the problem, and I knew that before I called. It was my hope that he'd listen, and hopefully pass the word on up the chain. I believe that he will. If any of you do call Cox, speak to them like human beings, since they are, and deserve to be treated with respect. They have shown it to the people who attend their venue.

Wow. I'm still stunned.

Yo Y'all,

So I spoke with the Promoter. I guess that I was the second one to get to him. We had a nice talk, but, he quickly passed the buck. There was nothing that he could do about.

I told him that I realized that he couldn't do anything about it, but, that I would appreciate it if he went back to the Beastie Boys, and told them that there were some bummed out people in San Diego, and that it would probably be appropriate if the band at least mentioned something on their, this website. He said that he would pass the information, and agreed that the band should respond via their\this webiste. I also told him that I would appreciate it he told the band that San Diego has love for the BB, and would like to see them return at some point on this tour. Lastly, I mentioned that it was kind of a bummer that they played an arena show in San Diego (their first arena show on this tour), and it was too bad that the show could not have been at Coors Ampitheater.

All in all, it was a chill, and positive conversation. What done is done. It was too bad that the sound was fucked up, but, it was a very good thing that the Beasties recognized, and attempted to fix, the problem. I'm way cool with everything.

Peace, hope to see you all at the next Beasties show in San Diego. Which means, I hope there is another show sometime in the nearer than 5 years future.

See you Monday! ;)

I went to the San Diego show and I was in the front center against the gate. It was a tight I thought the concert was great.I did notice that the sound was a little messed up though. The vocals were great but the music was soft in the background. But, hey I was just excited to see the bboys. I was in Mike D's section for time to get ill. I also made eye contect with all three bboys. I was so excited I got faclempt (jk). That was great. My friends and I really got into it. We also came down from LA and we thought it was well worth the concert and hotel stay. I also got interviewed by the Beastie Cam they said they might use the footage on the website or on a dvd or somthing. I talked to the camera guy he filmed the video on the tt5b disc of the bboys on the rooftop. It was a good concert minus slight difficulties. (y)

I was at the SD show and feel the need to take some time out to spread love and positive reinforcement to the Beasties! Yes, the audio issue was lame...but the BBoys' performance was amazing! I too, was "packed like sardines in a tin" on the floor, up against the gate, dancing, singing, and having a f*cking blast! I never really missed the bumpin' bass and wouldn't have guessed anyone else had by looking at the crowd around me. Although the sound wasn't all that it could be, MMM still proved to the crowd why he is indeed, the "master"! The set-list was great and I was very happy to see the guys pick up their instruments, (and I must admit, the grey suits with the bowties were one of the cutest things I've ever seen). I couldn't help but have a really great time. Thanks Beastie Boys!

Hey, is it just me or do they look like they have just as much fun, if not more, as everyone else there?...and they always crack eachother up!

sorry to be slow on the posting. to all the nay sayers -- the SD show was great. the beasties put on a terrific show with lots of energy -- including a Brian Fellows reference -- sweet! we were upfront in the pit and the sound was fine and the crowd around us was really cool -- except for a few drunk girls pushing people. KT was ok -- but hard to hear what he was saying -- he seemed to rely alot on yelling "san diego" and "beastie boys" to get the crowd into his performance. the dog show -- please leave it out. my mom might like it but most of us thought it too cheesy (but not in a funny, cool way). ps:many thanks to cool chick in the Hello Nasty shirt for the ice/water. peace out.

WTF? You were at the SD show, and you thought the sound was fine?

Get off of the internet, and make an appointment with an ear doctor, now. You are in trouble, and need help, immediately.

They don't stop the show when the sound is fine.

Chill. The sound was actually fine in some parts of the arena, although fucked up for the most part - hence stopping the show for a sec to correct it. Maybe this guy was in a spot that was okay.

Even though the sound was a little messed up, I really enjoyed the show. We had floor seats so we made our way around the different areas of the arena and to us it only sounded bad before they fixed it then half of the song after they fixed it. Other than that I thought it was a great show. & I was so happy they played Brass Monkey because they didn't play that song like 2 or 3 years ago when they came here. but yeah... (y)

Simmer Down Now! If you had shown up over an hour before the doors opened -- you could have been up front too where the sound was fine. But hey what do I know? I did have my hearing aid turned way up.

Much love.

My apologies for the harshness of my post. Not intended to be harsh.

Seriously though. It was fucked up sound. I was standing on the floor dead front center. I was in the best possible place to be for sound. It was bad. Much to the band's credit, they knew it, and fixed it. It was a good show.
