Ya, it's probably just gas. Or that small child he just had for a snack.

Oh come on Jasonik, it's humorous. He always seem to be doing or saying the wrong things in front of a camera. Why do you support him anyway? Or is just the republican party in general that you support?

What, you didn't get the joke I made about him feeling sick? I was lucky enough to stumble upon that photo showing him correctly placing his hand over his heart. I was relieved to know that he didn't have it on his tummy the whole time. By not thinking he is as evil as Hitler or vilifying him every chance I get, I'm supporting him? I thought seeing things not as black or white but shades of grey was better than kneejerk absolutism?

Well, what I mean to say is, he is not just some guy who we all know. He is the president of the USA. Now, I could list all of his transgressions and shortcomings and his general malphonics and comedic endeavors in front of the camera but I'm sure you know most if not all of them. With your posting of a pic with him actually holding his hand where it should be you are disputing the very comedic endeavor that I posted. Which lead me to my question. You seem way too intelligent to be actually backing this particular president. That is why I asked if you just support the republican ideology and prefer it to the left's.

If I said this made you sound provincial, you'd probably dissagree and say that supporting Bush is truly provincial.

You'd be correct there. :p How am I provincial? What is your real concern with the left?

You fancy yourself occupying the sophisticated position. I think it is more sophisticated to keep an open mind. One concern with the left is the alienating, condescending, and dismissive tone being viewed as clever and sophisticated rather than bigoted and naive.

"You fancy yourself" is a judgement call on a persona, it is everything you go on to say in the final sentence, replace "the left" with yourself, Jasonik.
While we pontificate, this administration is actually being dishonest. We are not destroying WMD programs, we are looking for lasting "OIL" gains. Just as we were when we installed Saddam.
• 883 deaths happened after President Bush's May 1, 2003, "Mission Accomplished" speech.
• 795 deaths happened after Bush's July 2, 2003, speech where he taunted the insurgents with the phrase "bring 'em on."
• 588 deaths happened after the Dec. 13, 2003, capture of Saddam Hussein.
After all these deaths, are we supposed to believe things are getting better in Iraq?
At least the American people should be told the truth. Don't you think?

You said I was close minded with a narrow way of thinking. That's a bit insulting. Now you claim that I am alienating, condescending, and dismissive? That's alot insulting. I don't fancy myself anything other than being someone with a little common sense. The only condescending one here I'm afraid is you.
As for bigoted, you already said provincial so I won't engage that one, but naive? Exactly what am I naive of? Do you have some secret you are not telling me that makes you the greater wisdom on the subject of the left versus the right? Just saying so doesn't actually make it so. If you had an open mind you would see truth out there as any rational intelligent person without some particular bias would. That being said I again reiterate the fact that I am not on the left but they are the one's who are talking sense right now not the right, and especially not this current administration. I am certain that there are those on the right now who would welcome a change from the current administration. Those that don't are just fooling themselves and are the ones who are truly provincial.

sorry to step in the middle of your battle guys, I respect all who post, I hate to see issues clouded....or open minds described so narrowly. I don't think I've ever heard of somebody describing the criteria for an open mind quite like that before. Prefaced with, You fancy yourself.
I do like the word fancy though. Usually good things come in fancy packages.

No problem at all I appreciate the observations. I don't consider this a battle just a discussion. Really, I'm just trying to figure Jasonik out. He seems like a decent enough fellow. Just wondering why he panders.

The first bit was about how there couldn't possibly be an actual *reason* that a thinking person would have for supporting Bush. I consider this to be close minded. I wanted you to acknowledge your own prejudice of ideas. Meaning that you would discount whole lines of reasoning if it led to a pro-Bush conclusion.
The second bit was my concern with the 'left.' I don't consider you the target of that remark, it is a general obsevation I have found living in a predominanly liberal intellectual bastion myself. I'm concerned because it seems to foster a snarky 'I pity you' tone of its adherents and disciples. There was a time in my life when I was over there wagging my finger and preaching from the moral high ground. It usually inspired one of two reactions, either guilt, or contempt. I'm glad I've engaged you. All I'm saying, is that you'll get more flies with honey than you will with vinegar.
Explain that pander part.

Well, I have seen nary a valid pro-Bush arguments so please forgive me if I seem prejudice on the subject. That is why I implied that you pander to the right. However, with your second paragraph I see that I may be wrong it's just personal belief on your part from experience. So debate on Jasonik, we may differ in our personal thoughts but at least we aren't ignorant in them.

I just don't misunderestimate them as being dim witted sheep.

Well I try not to either but with all the Sisko's and that other fellow, what's his name Army something, posting around the internet it's pretty hard to characterize them as anything BUT dim-witted, but I understand what you mean. The high road is probably the way to go with some people.
