Are we allowed to tailgate in the parking lot at the Bill Graham? Any restrictions re: grills, glass, alcohol, etc?

hhhhmmmmm.....parking lot? SF doesnt even have parking lots. :)

Parking is pretty much non-existent there (there maybe an undergroud lot
there but not sure). Parking in that area beyond sucks and so does traffic.

Much better to park a bit farther away and take in public transpo.

Last time Beasties did the Bill Graham, everyone got drunk in the park across the street, I imagine the same thing will happen this time around.

yay! beastie boys tomorrow! you know i'll be there but this time i won't wear a beastie boys shirt like i did 6 years ago when they performed in san fran (or i think it was oakland). apparently, it's not cool to wear the shirt of the band that you're going to see. i hope someone passes me a joint again.

I doubt I'll go. I have to work at 8am the following morning

However, I might be able to be subdued into going if I'm feelin the vibe. I'll be with my co-worker friend. Look for a guy wearing a Kool-Aid trucker hat, that's me..

I hear you dude. I don't know if I'm gonna have the energy or want to spend the extra money to go out to DNA lounge.

Hopefully someone will pass me a joint as well this time around, lol. I saw the Beasties in Mountain View back in June for their pre-tour, then I saw them in Oakland for Hello Nasty tour back in 1998. Can't wait to see them again, hopefully I'll get a good spot up front.

I'll say "hey cool aid!!" if I see your Kool Aid cap. We'll probably spark one on the walk down there so if anyone is in HV stop by Pigalle.

DelMateo: LOL, nice man. Real nice... haha.

Hey, is the bar you're going to in Hayes Valley? Does it have a foosball table as well? I think I've been there before. Foosball table and some pool tables? Foosball is the shit, we got a table here at work but I can't play drunk. I get all clumsy.

Anyway yeah, that'd be cool if I bumped into you. You can yell "I'm hot and thirsty, HEY KOOL AID MAN!" just like in the 80's commericals. Ok wait, that sounded kind of demented. Well, whatever man, I don't give a shit. It's all about the b-boys tomorrow. heh...

We decided on the MUNI after a preparty. I wasn't aware of the parking situation - I've never seen a show at the Bill Graham. Last time my buddies went a few years ago they were underage and ended up drinking in the library's bathroom accross the street.

We have an xtra ticket for the 9/17 show. We're gonna do a round of Edward 40 hands before, if anyone's down.

DelMateo

That's the one and yes, foosball is difficult drunk especially if your opponent outlaws the hyper spin. I was just there last night doing the pre pre party.

So, two questions for everybody who's reading this thread, and planning on going to the show today.

1) What time are you planning to arrive?
2) Are you planning to drink in the park near Bill Graham Civic Auditorium near City Hall? I don't know if that's a great idea.

I get off work around 5pm in SF. My co-worker and I were planning on drinking some beers at a bar or two near our work, getting some food and heading over to the auditorium early, to secure a good spot (we got GA tickets). Doors open at 7:30 I see, hmm....

In SF, there usually aren't many tailgate parties, unless we're having some crazy street faire, or something of that nature. Unless you guys know something I don't, your best bet is to probably hit up a bar nearby and start there. Unless you wanna be mega ghetto style and paperbag up a 40 ounce of Mickey's and try to drink it all under 3 minutes in the SF Library and/or Burger King bathroom, heh heh..

LOL. Dude, I hate spinners. That shit is cheating, you can't spin, wtf??

That's sweet DelMateo. I got a friend who lives up in your hood with his girlfriend. Sometimes we hang out, and usually end up at that bar playing a couple crazy games of foosball. But I USUALLY surpass him. heh...

I was gonna start a pre pre party last night, but decided to stay home and down only a beer or two. I wanted to save all the insanity for today.

yeah spinning is an amatuer move... that place used to be like my living room. So I went to the Beastie show at the BG civic (aging myself a little) when they played with Cypress Hill and Hoodlums and Hooligans and I believe there were tons of people in the park across the street getting hammered, I remember walking thru the Tenderloin to a liquor store and there Beastie heads scattered all over the place in doorways and alleys doing their underage drinking, anyway, I guess I am reminiscing, should be a great show tonight.

I am stoked about tonight!. At work trying not to giggle to much about the fun we are gonna have tonight.

my thought's on parking: there is an underground parking garage under civic center..but will probably fill up quick. the garage is open until 1 am. Street parking is probably going to be slim pickins. if you have the luxury of taking BART or a bus DO IT.

my thoughts on the tailgaters: that made me laugh..but only cause I know the area really well. Just keep in mind that bill grahamn aud. is in civic center..kitty corner from city hall. That means The 5-O patrol the area frequently. So be smart, don't flaunt your activites. Also if you dress like a bum you'll blend right in and they probably won't bother you anyway. heh. :D

Hey guys, I'm at work counting down the hours till the show. Man I can't focus today, fuck focusing. I wish the concert was right now, fuck!

DelMateo: An ex-coworker of mine met (and was photographed) with the Beasties back in 1991-1993 down at Capitol Records in LA. Used to work for Live 105. Apparently he smoked out with Cypress Hill backstage once at Lollapalooza :) Now, what relevance does this info have to anybody? I have no idea, I just thought I'd mention it, when you said Cypress Hill, that's the first thing that came to mind.

Cookiepuss: Did you go to Analy High School? If so, what year did you graduate? I got some old friends who attended Analy. I attended El Mo in Forestville.

Ok, babble back on this thing or look for a crazy guy wearing a Kool-Aid at at the show. Either way, we're gonna rock this motherfucker like 3 the hard way. Smokin and drinkin on a Thursday night... yeeaaauh.

I was a catholic school girl in Sonoma county. I went to Ursuline. went off to college in WA and came back to live in SF for about three years. Then a couple of years ago I got offered a job in Sonoma county and I came back. I don't even have that job anymore but I'm still here enjoying country livin'.

My karma in the city is an amazing thing..so I will keep an eye out for you kool-aid kid! Perhaps our paths shall meet!

leaving work early today! only 20 more minutes...I haven't even decided what to wear tonight!

Update. So I ride my bike home for lunch and on my way I passed the BG Civic, so far, one guy in line as off about 10:45am, he looked very serious about keeping that spot, they even assigned him his own security guard. Also, I think I might bring my TTFB CD over to Pigalle for an unofficial pre Beastie party, blare it on their crappy stereo and drink a few pints, all are welcome, tell em' Mateo sent ya!

KID? Yeah, I wish. Shit, my 10 year high school reunion is next year. At least I can still hide the gray hairs and get down with the kids now and then. And I keep good hygene too.

Shit, five more hours of work (including lunch, phew) of work to go. And when we run outta ale, it's time to buy wine...

Nice! Well, depending on the situation Mateo, I may drag my co-worker over to Pigalle. I can't pass up some pints, a pre party and a somewhat good game of foosball. We'll see... no promises though. Damn, personal security guard? That's fucking crazy. Must be some schmuck from Marin or Orinda :)

Hey,

To answer your questions...

1) I believe Bill Graham Civic Auditorium sells alchohol, probably just beer, no hard stuff? If you can, get tipsy prior to the show and hold a nice buzz. I'm sure beer in a venue like Bill Graham is bound to be expensive ($5-7/each I bet).

2) I got a GA ticket, don't know about everyone else here...

40 MINS OF WORK TO GO UNTIL I'M OFF! Then I go to the pub for a bit to prepare for... BEASSSTIEEE BOOYYZZZ!

In regards to parking at the BG Civic, there is the City hall lot on the northern end of the CC grass/tree area. I for one, am driving from Potrero Hill ( gee, a whole mile !) and will be parking around 11th st South of Market-- always easy and easy to get out of after the show.

Having worked at the BG Civic and Warfield for many years, I will tellyou that they do serve beer and at "older perssons shows" they will serve cocktails upstairs on one of the funky floors at the top withthe killer view of da City.

The space itself holds about 8,000 people and the GA is on the floor, with the balcony being the reserved area.

I just hope thay have the AC turned up, as I went to Berkeeley CC last night and saw a killer Neil Young show . However, it was close to 100 degrees inside. At the 97 Jane's Addiction show at the Civic, it was way too hot, but I have heard that they have fixed the AC.

Here's to a Phat-Freakin show form an old Beastie fan !!!

Peace ->Out ,
