sorry couldnt remember all the songs to make out a setlist...They seem to have followed similar set list from the LA show last night

I felt like they played too many off their new album and not enough of the old school songs that the real fans want to hear. All three guys were off on a bunch of songs, some on purpose but most of the time they forgot the words or lost track of the beat. It was a pretty good show, but again, too many songs that are played on the radio.

Thats my 2 cents.

I thought it was an amazing performance. They did fuck up on a few songs and had to stop and figure out what they were doin. The set was similar to what they've been playin at the other shows so far. It was a crazy fun time. I had so much fun. Was thinking about taking my camera but ended up leaving it at home.

Good show from the boys. I was actually getting beat around a little bit by some motherfuckers on the floor, so that sucked, but the show was awesome, really energetic and fun to watch/participate in. (y) Good mix of old and new, there were a few more old ones I'd've liked to hear, but can't get it all. I was SO psyched to hear Egg Man, and then a little bummed out when they completely forgot the words and then just dropped the song altogether. Nice blending in of the instrumentals as well. The Boys themselves looked like they were having a lot of fun, good crowd interaction and whatnot. Nice costumes. Very fancy shmancy, high-budget concepts goin' on there. All hail the "Beas e Boys" ;)

ONE ACTUAL COMPLAINT: The transition from the opening act to the Boys, was FAR TOO LONG. Fix that technical shit before the show. Y'know, I don't need the lights. They can just come out with mics and flashlights on 'em and I'd be good.

i thought it was a pretty good performance.. they seemed to be havin fun with it... it was my first time seein em so i have nothing to compare it to really but i had a good ass time... the setlist was pretty much identical to red rocks and other recent shows.. the mixmaster mike intro was pretty dope.

Yes, they messed up. It was frustrating because it was during my favorite songs: the older ones.

BUT it was an awesome show, well put together, lots of fun. More comments on the bottom, but the Beasties have SO MANY classic tunes, somebody's going to be disappointed if they don't play 3 hour shows.

Can't do an "in order" set list, but they played these songs (this is my "best guess" at the order):

Root Down
Sure Shot
Right Right Now Now
3 the Hard Way
Super Disco Breakin
The New Style (started with different beat to claps; they skip the middle verses like they do on the No Alternative album version; they messed it up a lot)
All Lifestyles
Triple Trouble
Shake Your Rump (another personal favorite; they messed up a bit)

3 Instrument songs
Sambrosa ?
_________
Something's Got To Give

An Open Letter to NYC
Eggman (might be my favorite B-Boy song, yep, they messed it up)
Paul Revere
Body Movin'
Brass Monkey
Three MCs and One DJ
So Whatcha Want
Ch-Check It Out

Encore 1
Intergalactic (in the upper deck)

Encore 2
Gratitude
Sabotage

The Review:

I arrived during Talib's set. I went to get a drink and check out the merchandise. I was wearing my 1987 long-sleeve LTI Tour shirt. No shirts matched the coolness of the one I was wearing. Wanted to buy the sticker pack but EVERYTIME I got in line at THREE different concessions, they'd sell out before I could purchase one. D'oh!!!

While waiting for the Beasties on the floor, I look up, and the two levels above us seemed to be barely halfway full. But once the show started, the seats filled up to the last few rows from the top.

They started between 9:20 and 9:30

I was 'relatively' near the front of the floor part, and I was happy to not suffer hard slamming moshers... every one was dancing or watching ; it was cool.

The Beasties were having fun and it made the night really good, even though they'd messed up more than I would have wanted them too.

I knew they'd be doing Intergalactic from somewhere in the crowd, but it still took about 10 seconds to find them.

THEN THE STRANGE THING HAPPENED...

from these boards, I knew they'd be doing Gratitude/Sabotage next, BUT THE HOUSE LIGHTS CAME ON AND STAYED ON.

So people starting leaving the floor... LEAVING THE ARENA!

My friend and I grabbed two girls we'd been talking to and made for the front of the pit. Those last two songs were crazy with pushing slamming... it was like it was 1987 all over again. By the time Sabotage ended, somehow, I'd found myself at the very front.

I'd say of the now 6 Beastie shows I've been to since 1987, this ranks middle of the pack, which might sound bad but those other shows were fucking awesome.

And it was the best concert I've seen in many years.

Yeah people were gettin real outta control on the floor. A few times I actually got pushed by some people into the pit. Seen a lot of guys just runnin into people and pushin people. But trust me they got regulated on. Some people just don't know whats up I guess. A fight broke out in the pit. I was standing right where it was goin down and they stopped once I got in the middle of them.

i was right up front on the floor, there was no one in front of me just the little metal gate- thankfully i felt no pushing and shoving...i enjoyed the show but i feel Monday's show rocked harder, the boys flowed better (i.e. less mistakes) and had more energy, and the set was longer too...it seemed like at the Long Beach show the boys just wanted to do the show and get the hell outta there...also,Talib Kweli's set was better Monday thanks to the guests (Mos Def, Common, and DJ Quik) all in all it was a great two nights and i'm so glad i got to see them do high plains drifter on Monday! :)

P.S. oh and i think that other instrumental was ricky's theme

i can't believe all the complaints. it was the best beasties show i've seen - actually the best concert i've EVER been to.

who cares if they flub songs - it happens at every show and it makes it funny. they didn't seem like they were ruhing through it to me. they seemed absolutley into it, having a great time.

front row & i made it onto the video monitor

Ha ha.... BEAS IE BOYS
A wardrobe malfunction. That was great! (y)

It sure is nice to have MCA putting out some extra energy now... For a while he's been kinda just walking around the stage, but now he's really getting into it and playing with the crowd. Good for him!! (y)

GREAT SHOW! THANKS GUYS!

i thought it was amazing and so much fun. the dog show before talib was totally unexpected and the clips of will ferrell as bush, and the crowd before the show were funny. adrock cracked me up the whole show with his expressions and the get ups they had on during the instrumental set were hilarious. besides the drunk girl who tried to take my spot up front and i think passed out before it even started, it was a great great show

I enjoyed the concert and the set seemed to go on forever, which is a good thing. The mistakes in the lyrics and such gave it a kind of relaxed feel like you were watching your friends in a garage or something.

I was close to the front and on the left. In the beginning, we had a good group of people around us, everyone minding their space. Then the high couple came and weaseled in front of me and my guest. I had to physically push the guy out of the way because he was ignoring me. Then came the guys that want to mosh and were flying high and throwing gang signs. WTF? They ruined it for a lot of people, some who had to leave because they were so angry.

Why people seem like they need to own the show instead of going with the flow is beyond me. Fuck you idiots who ruined it for the calm and respectful people.

And dont bring bad weed to a show. I don't want to smell that crap next to me. I want to smell like grass got mowed not skunk ass.

So me and my boys decide to dress up ala Sabotage and go to the show...

We're rockin out to an awesome show, people are lovin it and then...

while the Beasties are checkin out the crowd, all of a sudden...

"Hey check out those guys! They're all dressed up with the mustaches and everything! It's a pageant! They know what being a Beastie is all about!"

Fucking awesome, we got props from the B-boys!!!!!!! :D :D :D

First CD I ever owned at the age of 11 was LTI, I had never been able to get to a full B-Boy show before... that was the culmination of nearly 20 years of B-Boy dedication!!!

B-Boys ROCK... the show was glitchy and great... its like they said.. "ITS A LIVE SHOW!"

Thanks to everyone who was there who appreciated our costumes and took pictures of us with their camera phones!

thats it thats all thats all there is.... Jroq

one very cool thing i saw:

an 8 year old boy was up in the front row next to us. he and his mom had gotten there 5 hours early like my friends and i did. she said he has loved them since he was 3 years old and here he was. front row against the rail for his first concert ever. security took care of him all night and he looked like he was having a great time. coolest. mom. ever.

I had a BLAST!!!!!
One thing that pissed me off was the 1 drink limit!!!!!!! & the lines!!!
BUT IT WAS THE BEASTIE BOYS!!!
I was on the floor dancing and having a good time....
I was prob. the only girl jumping higher than anyone else there...
and screaming "Beastie Boys!"...
Black Puma tank and red Pumas- that was me!!!!
I think that is the best show I have ever seen....
I'm gonna do it all over again!!!

Cool. Which one of them gave you props?

-Miramanee

It was all 3 of them. I think it was MCA first and then Ad Rock and Mike D came over. My "loose" quote of what they said was a mixture of all 3's comments. It was cool, the B-boys were lauging and everyone around us was going crazy.

Too much fun - J (y)

I think the energy was better in San Diego....LBC was a good show, but even with the audio poblems SD San Diego was better. There was a nasty echo coming off the back wall at The long Beach Arena......They didint plat time to get ill in Long Beach......

Holz
09-15-2004, 01:25 PM
long beach was ok, but universal was MUCH better... mostly because it's a much more intimate venue. but i gotta agree, the boys flubbed a bunch of lyrics, way more than the usual. it was like they were kinda out of sync all night. BUT, it's always nice to see the boys perform!! (y) still, nothing beats the 'check your head' show i saw in cincinnati, may 14, 1992. the best.

Yeah that was funny when they were giving you props for dressing up for the occasion or however they put it. MCA was all like "finally someone gets that its a pagent" or somethin. Remember how Mike D was talking about the video screen and he kept calling out Spike? I guess he meant Spike Jones huh? I wonder if he's on tour with them.

I was at the Long Beach show and it was dynamite. I was on the floor about three rows from the stage (in back of the kid who had a Backstreet Boys t-shirt with duct tape over it, and to the left of the old blonde chick who kept leaving to get drinks and go to the john and then never came back, leaving her bald boyfriend in the dust). Although I could do without the rowdies during the encores, the experience as a whole was grade A.
SPECIAL REQUEST: I was wondering if anyone took any good pics. If so, can you post them or email them to me? Also: did anyone record the show? It'd be great to get a copy of that too.

the show was awesome- best show i've seen the boys in all year (counting the wennie roast and powerhouse) it was so nice to see everyone as excited about the beasties as i was-
my friend and i were front row about center, and just a touch to the right...what a view. they really did look like they had a good time, which was nice- energy level was high-
don't have any real complaints...still wishing they'd play sounds of science live that's all...

I went to the LA show as well as the Long Beach show. Someone else mentioned Universal being better because of the intimate venue. I agree about that, plus I was up in the Loge for Long Beach, but damn it was rockin'! I must admit of all the shows I've been to the boys are the only shows I get down and dance and just let loose. Wish I could find a way to go to another show and get on the floor.

People mentioned that the boys messed up a bit, which was true, but they seemed like they were having a blast. Joking around and acting silly. Much moreso than at Universal. Was a lot of fun to watch.

I saw a lot of people taking photos, so hopefully some will get posted here! I'll get my film developed, but like I said I was up in Loge, so they probably didn't turn out.

Does anybody know if Long Beach or Universal were recorded at all?

bs2000! Just trying to represent! I don't know for certain but it sure seemed it to me. Anyhoo, hey if in my little head it really was props from AdamH, I'm just going to stay in my own little slice of heaven on that one! I didn't expect I'd be right in front, but low and behold... the carpool lane was givin' love and we got there early enough! Whooo HOOOEY! I'm still trying to recover, working full-time and going to 3 beastie shows in 4 days is madness I tell you. Last night's was far superior for me personally cause I was right up in it... but Universal's set was pretty tight and the crowd from my vantage point was crazy into it.

Bein' up that close was really super neato, you got to see all their expressions and stuff. What a bunch of shenanigans is all I can say. Adrock had a wardrobe malfunction, losing the T and I off his shirt. Mike D I guess you could say had a wardrobe malfunction as well... he had on rhinestone clad glasses and one of the stones fell off! Yup, he lost his bling! MCA just had his smooth cool comfortable groove on. Money Mark looked exhausted on the keyboards, I thought he was gonna pass out! He still did his trademark jumping... love it! Adrock sure gave it up on Sabotage... excellent! And did I mention the choreography? Tee hee, yeah there were some nice dance skills exhibited throughout the evening. Oh, yeah, and so much for getting gussied up for the pageant; as they like to call it... I (and everyone around me) was drenched by the end of the show! It was only about 5billion and six degrees where I was, the stage didn't look much cooler. Now the Beasties know what their fans look like in a rain storm or sauna have you will. It was all about getting into the shower upon returning home! Yuck! But well worth it! Way to rock the house Beas_ _ e Boys! :p

The Long Beach show was scrumptrelescent. My Bgirl partner in crime and I barged round trip 820 miles to the show and it was well worth it. It was the first of our 3 show trek this week, up next SF. We're all about the pagentry, we've been sporting jump suits in honor of Bboys. I loved that Beasties did Egg Raid and I'm so jelouos to hear they did high plains drifter on monday- I'm hoping they might do it again in SF. The Beasties put on the most energetic show I was dancing non stop! They kept things lively going back and forth from hip hop to instrumental. The encores were sick. I thought the MMM intro seemed a little short. There's nothing like seeming them live, they has such chemistry and charisma.

I went to the San Diego, L.A., and Long Beach shows and the LBC one was definitely the best! Not only was the setlist killer, but they put me on the big screen talking about my boys and how I wanted them to play "Crawlspace." Towards the end of the show, MCA put on this cheesy gold necklace and wore it for a couple of songs and then threw it to AdRock. He missed catching it and it fell in front of me on the other side of the pit barricade. At the end of the show, the Beastie Cam guy picked it up and gave it to me. Everyone tried to grab it out of my hands so I put it in my pants and that solved the problem. I wore it to sleep that night. Just thought I would share. I hope everyone else loved the show as much as I did!!!

That chick Katie, from Road Rules, (who always starts fights and sh!t) was in the pit, too.

Hey,
I was standing immediately to your right in the pit. The Sabotage look was great. It was cool when they pointed you guys out. Your Nathan Wind/Cochese was a little on the short side and he's starts grabbing my shoulders for leverage to jump up and down after the recognition. You guys deserve some props.

I believe the Beasties called it . . . "showing some pageantry"

You were probably the girl who was behind me who threw her arms over my shoulders and grinded into the back of me during Sabatagatoge. And I was like all WTF? Kinda.

i'm taking it quite personally... i realize that the restraining order complicated issues with us, but avoiding me altogether is just plain unacceptable...

Best show EVER! High energy, good line up, had way too much fun. ;)
Props to my beer man who was leting us snag 2 beers at a time. The encore was the highlight of the night. The boys were about 2 rows infront of me. It was pure madness, I got beat up alittle when people started to rush us, but I dont remember any feeling of pain that night. :D Meet some chill people in front of us. Got alot of compliments on my green shirt that night...ummmm...
And the drive was not that bad! I love the carpool lane!
It was a good night!

I took my wife to her first show (my 2nd) and she really really really loved me for buying tickets. Her favorite part was when the B Boys would mess up in a middle of a song. I know some people didnt like it when the B Boys messed up in the middle of a song, but we thought it was pretty cool. They would stop and talk for a little bit and then someone would come in with the chorus without music and they would flow for a little while. Then, "BAM" Mix Master would come in with a totally differnt beat and it sounded really good. I enjoyed that because it wasn't the "usual" B Boys, it was seeing them live and hearing them do something differnt. Its cool when they do their old stuff, but how old does it get for them. Over and over, this way they still make it fresh and it keeps them going. Nice!

I REALLY loved when they came out and and did the instumental part. That was so unexpect to me, I really enjoyed it when they jammed together. Its one thing to hear it on a CD, but its another to see it live. Sabrosa and Something's Got To Give, spectacular!!

Last but not least, Mix Master, what can be said. HOLY SHIT, this guy can cut it up. Again its so diffent to see live and see who fast Mike really is. I loved how they had the camera up on his stage so you can see it up real close. Amazing!

PROPS - Mix Master Mike
PROPS - Beastie Boys
Dis - LBC Areana (no cameras!?)
