Thanks.

They're not doing Fight For Your Right? I know some bands "hate" playing their big hits over and over...but c'mon...that's a beasties staple!

Why not? Because they don't want to. That's all. :)

Do they have the rights to those songs or does def jam own them?

Something tells me they wouldn't care, considering if def jam wanted to sue them they'd have to wait in line for the 10,000 other cases against the Beasties to get done...they'd get in line right after the Beatles :p

But seriously, they do play Brass Monkey and The New Style...And Paul Revere too. And they are all LTI songs.

that wouldn't matter regardless if they played them or not. but, i'm sure they don't really wanna be remembered for 'fight for your right' or 'no sleep til brooklyn'. actually, it took a while for them to start playing more than 2 or 3 LTI songs. until this year, i really had only heard them play 'slow and low' and 'time to get ill'. and if you notice, they're usually changing up some of the more "rude" lyrics, especially MCA. he tends to do that a lot. personally, i think they feel that, even though LTI got them to where they are today, they'd much rather be remembered for their more recent stuff. CYH, HN, etc.... they're all much more unique albums, and it shows how much they've grown as musicians. i think 'paul's boutique' really set them apart from the LTI years because it was definitely a more serious album... not just rapping about white castle and drugs and drinking, etc. therefore, that's why it's just pretty obvious why they don't play those songs anymore.

just my two cents... (y)

how can they rap or relate about

"living at home is such a drag, your mom threw away your best porno mag"

"your pop caught you smoking and he said no way"

they are the parents now

i think they would just feel silly singing a song like this

plus they don't want to go down in history as a band who is still trying to milk a hit they had in the 80's for all its worth or a cheap pop from the crowd

yes i do agree it would be a great song to sing along with live and it maybee would be nice to see it come out of retirment

but you also have to rember when the beasties made songs for lti some songs were good, and some were just a joke

the best way to describe fight for your right is like william hung

the beasties recorded it spoofing on all the smoking in the boys room type of songs out there

it was a joke song that people liked and the song made money
just like weird al's omish paradise

or just like how william hung is a huge joke and is really crappy but he still managed to hit the charts with a terrible rendition of the terrible song she bangs

in conclusion fight for your right is a joke that wen't to far or a joke that sold

That wouldn't make a difference. You can perform any song you want at a concert without any repurcussions. It when you try to record it on a album that you'd get a hassle.

That's why bands are allowed to play covers and whatnot during a live show with out any troubles.
