I think I hear Friedgen yelling for more food, you better get off line and run over to McDonalds.....

Haha, I had to Google Friedgen to figure out who he was.
I personally don't like Terps sports. They charge me $360 a semester to fund them, regardless if I get tickets or support them in any way. (n)

you can't possibly go there. I extremely disagree with most of your views, and then i thought "it's all right, she's a terp."
and then you said that.
somewhere in the distance, earl badu is crying for you.

And oh yeah, I do like the football and basketball games, I go to them every so often. I just don't like the overall "sports" deal at Maryland where I have to pay extra money to fund them, and the players are treated like gods. They skip class, they mess up, it's okay, because they can play basketball. Seriously. I can guarantee you Dixon was in special math.

then i guess you don't also like paying taxes then that support layers and layers of bureacracy and govt employees who get endless govt benefits without being subject to the real-life economic reality of lays offs, etc that regular people live with.....
i remember where i was when len bias died, where you even alive then?

government employees serve a purpose. people who know how to toss a ball around do not.
And oh yeah, government employees do NOT get endless benefits, I can tell you from experience.

Indeed, a lot of people would and do pay to play sports. To get paid for it is ridiculous.

"Let me clear my throat"....I would argue that there are PLENTY of government employees that do NOT serve a purpose. Some actually do more harm than someone who just did nothing. The mismanagment of tax payer dollars at the bureucratic (sp?) level is mind boggling. I don't even want to get into the specifics.

On another note, I would take a really close look at the financial statements for your fine University.
http://umterps.collegesports.com/genrel/081804aaa.html
$6 MILLION to the general school budget from these athletes that serve no purpose? That certainly has an effect on YOUR tuition. Not to mention the intangibles that athletics foster like alumni donations, national recognition et al. A nationally ranked football team may be the reason that your future employer in California repects your UMD diploma.
I could be wrong, but my school also had an additional payment to tuition that was labled as something to do with athletics, but it went to the field house, tennis courts, raquetball courts and all the shit that students got to use for free. Might be the same for you.

So by your logic, its ok to waste money as long as its also being wasted on other things ? Also you ignored the rest of the points being made on the forum, good way to win a debate.

Also why would I waste my time with your links when you can't even waste yours to properly answer other points put forth on your thread...
(you only answered some)
And I'm shit tired, so you fuckers better check yo self before you break yo self.
And beuracracy is needed to some extent, you should know this. If you want I can explain.

Maybe not... and incidently, the correct spelling is "bureaucracy"
The etymology is to do with the piece of furniture a "bureau" which is used to write on. As bureaucracy is to do with paper-work, it would've been written on a bureau.

Heh? Get some sleep brutha!
To answer the other points-
Yes Ralph Friedgen is fat, and probably does like McDonalds...A LOT.
Yes people in North Carolina love Duke and hate the Terps.
Yes Len Bias broke off a crack piece that was just a little too big.
What points did I miss.

I do not know who or what any of those are. Well, I do know the capital of North Carolina is Raleigh, but offers no insight into the others...

Liberal media??
If you feel the media is liberal then what are Fux, Rush, Coulter et al?
Just switch the channel if the truth bothers you.

If the media is truly 'liberal' then how come the only two candidates they give proper coverage to are Bush and Kerry? I realise some of you have been duped into believing that Kerry and the Democrats are 'liberals' but they're not. They just look like liberals compared to hardcore fascists like Bush/Cheney/etc. A biased liberal media would have given excessive coverage to Kucinich (sp?)/Nader/and whoever is running for the Green Party this time.

Yeah, the athletic fees. It goes towards helping the careers of the sports players here, by buying them nice new buildings and funding equipment and such. It bought us our new beloved Comcast Center. And I don't use any of the sports things at all, and when brought up to the administration, they said it didn't matter if I went to games, utilized any of the sports centers in any way. I still have to pay for sports at Maryland. It's bullshit. I'd like a new parking lot closer to my classes, rather than a fuckin' center for basketball.

are you aware that in 1984, when georgetown won the natl title for basketball, as a result of the national exposure that georgetown received that the increase in application fees as a result of greater applications more than made up for the 4 year scholarship costs of patrick ewing?
its a true fact, even though i have no link to show it. you will have to trust me (i am an eagle scout, after all)

And did you realize that up at Ohio State football players can take "Football" as a class and get credits for it. They can even take it 1st and 2nd quarters. They get an ass-load of credit hours FOR PLAYING FOOTBALL.
And this is the place I want to go to school.

I have seen other reports which deduce that there is no net gain to a college in spending all that money on athletics. A cost benefit analysis is needed and I'm guessing depending on how that athletics money is spent in some cases there are overall benefits to the entire school and other cases where there are few or in fact there is a net loss to the institution. In my mind if Georgetown is a public university (I don't know), there is an issue, if it's private, then they can do what they like.

Blighty is very astute. Kerry is as liberal as his next corporate check. ;)
Another way for all you Sherlock Holmes types to deduct how liberal your media is, ever notice that the exact same advertisers are on CBS, FOX, ABC, CNN, NBC? It's a laugh a minute as we are spoon fed the news by the corporations.

Liberal? media ownership
ABC, brought to you by Disney Corp, the same guys who tried to block Moore's F-911
NBC, owned by General Electric, one of the top providers of of goods to the US military
CBS & UPN, owned by Viacom which is 68% owned by National Amusements, Inc whose CEO is a Democrat
FUX, no need to go there
well one out of four ain't bad

If CBS is liberal, they're not very good at it.
For each of the three misperceptions, the study found enormous differences between the viewers of Fox, who held the most misperceptions, and NPR/PBS, who held the fewest by far.
Eighty percent of Fox viewers were found to hold at least one misperception, compared to 23 percent of NPR/PBS consumers. All the other media fell in between.
CBS ranked right behind Fox with a 71 percent score
