Living in South Florida has been a problem for me inasmuch as I haven't seen the Beasites live in over 19 years. In fact I have only seen them the one time, and I will date myself here. They were three unknowns opening up for Madonna on her "Like A Virgin" Tour in 1985.
But with the new album coming out I had hope that a tour might include a South Florida stop. I check this very website one evening and only a partial listing is up. The last date on that list is October 9th, at Madison Square Garden in New York. Thinking that it would make sense that NYC might be their last stop on a leg of the tour I said, "SCREW IT", and bought a plane ticket 5 minutes later, and the next day bought my pre-sale tickets for the MSG show online. And what the hell? The Beastie Boys at The Garden! Can it GET better than that??
Well yes it can. Later on that next day as I am basking in the glow that I will finally get to see the Beastie Boys again, I log onto thier website to check the tour dates. The dates were exanded, and of course what was the VERY NEXT stop on the tour:
10/18 Office Depot Center, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Needless to say, if I'm going to fly 1700 miles to see them at their home, I'll drive the half hour to see them in mine. I let out another "SCREW IT" and scoop up another ticket for my Beasties In My Backyard show.
19 years I go without seeing them, and now it's twice in nine days. Talk about your feast or famine.
