although you could match up tempos and pitch, it would most likely sound horrible.

Exactly what I was about to say. You can do it, but it will most likely sound like shit. Also, it would be quite difficult to separate those vocals for two reasons: 1) they are already distorted in that oh-so-'ill communication' way, and 2) they are already at a very low volume compared to the background instrumental.
