You heard any of the stuff he's done with William Shatner?

He puts on a fantastic live show - involves the audience, does a drum solo in the middle, it's just amazing to see him and his piano alone on the stage. I saw him in 2002 and have been dying to see him again!

On another topic, my husband and I find ourselves constantly worrying about poor Fred Jones. First his wife dies horribly of cancer, then he loses his job. What next? Does he get abducted by aliens and get the anal probe?

Yeah, that's my guess.

All of Ben Folds songs are catchy though. Long live Ben Folds.

Ben Folds/Five rule! I love how on the new album, "Songs For Silverman," he takes an emo photo of himself (was he checking out this board? ). (y)

"Rockin' The Suburbs" is my personal fave.

I don't know Ben's solo stuff, but Ben Folds Five's first 2 albums kicked serious booty. I listen to them all the time, really good stuff (y)

'Zak and Sara" and "Not The Same" are on the Rockin' The Suburbs album. Probably the better songs on that album without being too emo, imo. Anyone disagree?

Haven't heard the new one... yet!

I have some of his CDs that I almost never listen to.
He's better live. He's funny. Very funny. There are a lot of little moments.

Tonight he sang Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit" (also available on i-tunes). He did hand gestures as well. The drummer did a little rap section in what sounded like an Australian accent. The bass player and the drummer sang the chorus sweetly. Once I started laughing it was difficult to breathe on the crowded floor.

I bought a ticket out of curiousity a couple of months ago. I didn't feel like going tonight. What pushed me out of the house was this old thread. :p

He mentioned it was a b-side, but I had never heard of it. :)

I've gotta say, at first he reminded me a little tiny bit of Elton John with thinning messy hair and goofy glasses, and the rocking back and forth while playing. But about 10 minutes in, he's kind of attractive. What's that about?

cosmo105
10-26-2005, 12:09 AM
he's got this realness to him. he doesn't dress all fancy, he doesn't put product in his hair. i imagine he smells amazing. he's a real guy...not an uber-man obsessed with his looks or trying to be a macho jerk. he's fragile and human, and it's endearing.

also he's really friggin hot

yeahwho

He's cool. Or through being cool. Which is cool. I think. He's the type of guy you want to root for, even though your not sure why you are., but never question it.

Who we talking 'bout again?

Yeah, when he was doing gestures he looked so supremely stupid that he had to know that he looked stupid. There's nothing cooler than being comfortable in your own skin.

I'm raving just a bit because I had a string of disappointing experiences lately so I was due for a pleasant surprise.

i hate the song "brick" (n)

Brick is such a good song. (y)

cosmo105

it's a good song, but it's not his only song. and it doesn't really represent most of his music.

Documad
10-30-2005, 05:32 PM
It's also rather odd to see people jumping up and down and swaying to Brick. It's as if they totally love the song but have never listened to it. wtf?

It reminds me of the silly people who thought Every Breath You Take is a love song.

you didn't like the pyrotechnics and tumbling dwarves?

Documad
10-30-2005, 07:45 PM
I wonder why Ben didn't bring the dwarves to the park. Perhaps he couldn't get a permit?

You know, these so-called "musicians" who think they can just show up with a guitar or a piano and play a set really piss me off. You're not a musician unless you put on some kind of show. Like that Celine Dion does in Vegas. Yeah!

Who wants to pay $15 and stand 10 feet from a guy playing the piano in a club? I'd rather pay 4 times as much and be 1,000 feet from the stage with 20,000 other people and watch the show on a video screen dangling over my head. Now that's music!

All three of the Bens rule. Although the bens compilation was mediocre.

yeah, it left a lot to be desired. the first and last tracks were pretty nice, but the other two...unlistenable. but then again, didn't they write that whole thing in a matter of days?

The band was phenominal orchestrating/ incorporating the audience on Austin City Limits.

Yeah like the purpose of that EP was so that could sing those songs together on their "The bens" tour of Australia. I wish I had've gone :(

I have a couple of live albums by Ben Folds which I think are better than his solo and five stuff. I cannot wait to see him next month. I'm sure he'll be great!

I only started listening to him this last year so I dunno what legacy he had before then to make a MTV type-opinion as I've never seen him on TV or heard him on the radio, stll fantastic though and thought this thread may need another bump...
