ok, so i eat a lot of rice. i have a huge bag of it, and for the most part, im the only one who really cooks in the apartment, so its esentially all mine...

can i toss rice into a frying pan without boiling it first? because most of the time im looking to make a quick meal, and it would help if i didnt have to wait 15 minutes or so to cook the rice before i can start to cook up the rest of the stuff...

last night i took some rice that i cooked up and threw it in a pot with some chicken from a can and topped it with leftover sweet and sour sauce...it was very tasty, but would have been better with some veggies

No. You have to cook the rice first.

If you want to make cooking with rice quick and easy, here's what to do: buy a rice cooker. I'm not sure how much they cost but it won't set you back terribly. (Maybe you can even guilt yer mom or auntie or someone into getting one for you - just be all like "Gee I'd love to cook myself more nutritious meal but you know I'm so pressed for time , it would be so handy", that kinda thing.)

You can put the rice on to cook before you go to work/class/whatever and then when you get home, voila - you have rice, ready to go.

ps you are using brown rice, I hope...

no brown rice here, at least at the moment. i bought the store brand 3 pound bag of plain old white rice because it only cost like a dollar. i do like brown rice though...

how long does a rice cooker take? i usually end up deciding whether to cook or not when i am walking home from practice and if i want to cook or go somewhere to get something

The rice cooker takes as long as it would on the stove. But, with the rice cooker, it shuts itsself off at the end of the cycle. That's why I'm saying, you can put it on to cook as you are leaving the house, and when you come home, your rice is ready already - just heat it up in the micro or whatever.

Brown rice is about a million times better for you than white. White is just empty, fast-release carbs, with next to zero nutritional value.

By practice, do you mean trumpet practice or some kind of real practice?
