Terrorist, hurricanes, political unrest, whatever excuse they can use. Always look at their profits and see if the raised prices changes that profit margin.

How come the price of gas goes up overnight but takes weeks to come back down?
Does Halliburton own the oil companies too?

Good, maybe if prices keep going up people will stop driving and polluting so much.

Supply and demand my friends. I have one word for you: China. The price of all commodities (aluminum, steel, oil, etc.) is through the roof b/c China is experiencing almost 10% annual growth. Also, a huge portion of gas bills is to pay state and local taxes. Lower taxes!

Fuckin' "A", my suburban is idling all night, I never take the key out. I never turn the TV off, my hot waters running and the thermostat is at 90. Fridge door is open, all the lights are on and the tea kettle whistles 24/7. The dryer is tumblin' and the mixer is jumblin'.

I have "4" multi-colored 500 watt spotlights shining on my USA Flag with a 1000 watt stereo playing The Star Spangled Banner all while a natural gas torch lights my 10 commandments carved in granite.

I am a US citizen, I love this country.

You know I hate to be inclined to update this post but;

U.S. light crude futures set an all-time high at $52.24 a barrel, marking a 60 percent surge in prices so far this year on the strongest demand growth in a generation and a thinning cushion of spare capacity to cope with supply outages.

What the hell is going on here?! They are blaming a "projected" winter? They can't even chart the course of a hurricane accurately, but they know how the winter is going to be? And the environment isn't a concern right? The Kyoto Treaty is just so much farts in a suit I suppose?

If this is true, and I don't find it hard to believe, then it's what I've said before - we're all connected like a Lego set. Pretending that the rest of the world isn't really there is just not realistic.

bush's next proposal will be that people burn all the "liberal" books to heat their homes this winter

Check this shit:

Something like 45% to 50% of the price we pay for gas in the U.S. is federal tax, as I remember reading.

And our healthcare system is only halfway socialized!

Not quite paulk.
The federal tax on gasoline has been 18.4 cents per gallon since 1993. State ranges from a low of 8 cents per gallon in Alaska to a high of 16 cents per gallon in Hawaii.
The tax is less than 25% in the highest state, still too high but it supposedly is used to maintain the roads.
I feel this is good way to pay for highway maintenance, make the people who use the most fuel pay the cost while the folks who don't drive don't pay.

I don't understand why oil prices are so high...Isn't Bush pals with the Saudis? Can't he "call in a favor?" They Owe Us!! ;)

There is a General Strike planned for October 10 or 11 in Nigeria (y) , the strike is about oil subsidies and other things. The oil workers there may actually join the other striking workers, unlike in the last few general strikes - this would cause another oil price rise

Think he's used up all his favors. Saudi oil production along with the rest of the world has about reached capacity. I wouldn't be surprised to see $100/ barrel oil in the not so distant future.

$100 per barrel...buy oil futures then. I think they are only slightly north of $55. After the cold winter it will come back down. Also, if China has a hard landing, the price will plummet...
